Couldn’t get through this one—found it poorly written and uninteresting. I think it’s not my type of book, however, and others may enjoy it!

The Change is such a creepy, good book! It is not what I expected at all, and I love the surprises it threw at me. I highly recommend this one to friends & family, and look forward to Miller's next book.

I found this to be interesting. It was a feminist revenge story spiked up with magical realism. Three powerful women with unique abilities come together to find and bring down a serial killer when justice fails to do the job. It is not something that I would normally read but I was happy I did!

This is a longer book, but one that I find instantly grabs you from the start! The story follows 3 different women who find themselves "empowered" in different ways - Literally, via what I can only describe as something supernatural. When the three women's paths cross, they use it to investigate a teenage girl's murder, which unravels into something that none of them anticipated. This book was different than my typical thriller/suspense reads - Which I enjoyed! I'm looking forward to seeing what this author comes up with next.

This book wasn’t for me. I had to put it down and force myself to pick it back up multiple times just to get through it. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters, and the story was all over the place. It just didn’t work for me.

initial thoughts: while this book is long (almost 500 pages), the story keeps moving and doesn’t feel bogged down. while it did take a bit to get to know Jo, Harriett & Nessa, once I did, they were so great! the story did start out a bit slow, but I’m happy I pushed through.
definitely not a book you can get through quickly due to its length, but one worth picking up!

Wow wow wow. I did not expect this book to be this good. I went in blind and I am so glad that I did.
This was absolutely amazing. I ended up listening to the audio from the library and the narration was as fabulous as the writing.
The twists this story took was incredible. The strength and power of these women were something to uphold and admire. I loved the magical realism that played a huge role in the story as well.
The characters were very well developed and despite to multiple POV it was very easy to follow along. I loved having a little bit of everyone’s story. This was an incredible book and I found myself emotional at points.

This was a fabulous feminist crime novel - three middle-aged women come together and bring gifts they possess to the table, one speaks to the dead, one is strong and can channel rage to heat, and the last one is what might have been known as a witch or a healer, in tune with all the remedies and curses nature has to offer. All three of them know the world they live in to be a man‘s world even if things have already come far ghey know they‘ll never be part of the boys‘ club. When they discover a teen girl’s body stashed in a garbage bag, and see the police quickly dismissing her as a possible drug addict, they feel the need to hunt for her killer. As the women discover all they can do with their gifts, they engage in a manhunt that quickly takes a turn towards dangerous for them and their loved ones. Only their combined gifts can unravel the source of the enduring evil that’s been perpetrated and let them live free of fear. This was a fun wild ride of a world quite close to ours with just a bit of magical realism sprinkled in and it was a fabulous read !

This book was fantastic! Funny, heartfelt, mysterious, empowering, suspenseful, emotional.. I am jealous of anyone who gets to read it for the first time!

You had me at supernatural powers but when you throw in three fantastic female characters later in life finding out they have magical powers & decide to go after the toxic men they’ve encountered and you have a winning combination.

THIS BOOK! Wow I loved it! What a fabulous concept with even more fabulous and FIERCE characters! This book is in its Reputation Era, and I'm so here for it! I loved the revenge-y, vigilante business, and I loved the idea that these women come into their "powers" through aging and menopause. I just loved it. I thought it was magnificent.

So good! I thought I had the end figured out but nope! A bit heavy on details at times and, at others, too into the weeds with background, but overall super enjoyable.

I’m still thinking about these characters months later…
The mature characters are refreshing. A thriller with a little magical realism.

If you like a juicy revenge story, this book is for you!
Thank you to NetGalley for a preview copy. My options are my own.

Jaw-dropping... empowering... an ode to women of a certain age! Grabs you from the first page and never lets go. Better than HRT!

I can get behind a revenge story. However, this was a drag. First, it picks on men very heavily - most of the men characters were evil, and women are just angry and holding their anger inside till they get their spotlight, and enact revenge. The whole story was just too long and too complicated to keep me interested. Too many characters, and plots and subplots. It tried to be more clever than it needed. At the end of the day, if we do revenge - get to it quicker?
Also, what WAS that ending? Why oh why did we choose to do that in particular? To be "twisted"? Or just to be close to a particular Real Life Island?
I'm not a fan, though the characters and the plot weren't that over the top crazy, like another feminist story with women having powers that was just ridiculous. So 2.5 rounded up. Not for me.

This isn't your typical run of the mill thriller. It's got some thrillier twists and turns. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy!

This story kept me engaged, and I was able to read it quickly. A motley crew of women with special abilities are drawn together to destroy men who are hiding gross abuse.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

In The Change, three women in Mattauk come together in unexpected ways, harnessing their gifts to try protecting their town. Nessa is a widow who can hear and see girls. Since she was ousted from her high level corporate job, Harriett has built a reputation for being a witch, in large part due to her unwieldy garden. Jo owns a women’s gym and can literally feel heat surging through her when she’s mad about something and lately, there’s plenty to be mad about in Mattauk.
When Nessa, Jo and Harriett find a young woman’s body near the beach, they’re enraged by the casual, dismissive narrative police provide about the girl. The three woman are determined to discover what really happened and decide to investigate themselves, with or without official assistance.
I enjoyed this story that had plenty of unfortunately realistic, rage-inducing moments. I felt for the women as individuals, professionals, moms, and spouses. The Change is a great reminder of the power of women working together and not being deterred by men.

I started this and it was a little too "woo-woo" for me - I think this would be great for more mature women at this phase in their lives but I wasn't really able to connect or appreciate much of where they were coming from.
