I enjoyed the characters in this book and the premise that even as we age we are still valuable. There were some dark moments in the book but the book didn't feel heavy. I purchased a copy of the book for my bookshelf. Thank you to NetGalley for the e-copy.

Jo has had increasing hot flashes that come along with great strengths. Jo realizes she can manifest her hot flashes into energy, and its growing stronger daily.
Young girls have gone missing, when these three ladies form an alliance to find out what has happened, their friendship blossoms and they find each has their own set of powers that grow the more they are together. These ladies are determined to find out what has happened to these missing girls and know they can only do that if they work together.
I absolutely LOVED this book. The way these women were written as such strong characters drew me in. As a Black woman I really appreciated how Kristen Miller wrote Nessa. Often when Black characters are written by white authors they use crazy analogies like “caramel colored skin” to describe them. I loved how Kristen wrote Nessa as a strong woman, but she used subtle cultural nuances that let the reader see she was a Black woman. This book was an excellent read, This book would make a great movie, and I definitely think this could turn into a series. Thank you Scene of the Crime for this ARC

First off thank you so much for the gifted ARC!
I absolutely loved this book centered on female friendship and female empowerment! My favorite character hands down was Harriet, she was a total badass and made me laugh out loud multiple times.
I loved how the author showcased different strengths of women in the three characters Harriet, Jo and Nessa.
Highly recommend this book!
Heck yes.
Hollywood, please make this into a movie. A boundary-pushing, well-written novel about a handful of badass women of a certain age? This is the type of story that needs to make the leap from page to screen.
While on the longer side, the story never drags. I will absolutely be picking up Kirsten Miller's next novel. If she brings this blend of humor, magic, drama, and writing ability to everything she writes, I'm all in.

A timely novel of women taking care of each other. This is the feminist literary read for me of 2022 - a little fantasy, a little mystery, a lot of social commentary.
Harriet, Jo and Tessa all have unique powers that turn them into a crime fighting trio hell bent on retribution and justice.
When the three women stumble upon the body of a dead, innocent 17 year old they set off down a path to learn more about their powers and the woman who the local police department failed.
Set against the backdrop of a wealthy New York town (coyly named Mattauk), The Change is a commentary on the judicial inequalities of our justice system and the path to retribution that some take to even the score.
I truly loved this book - it was a clever, unique take on a mystery that was also relevant to the day that we are living in where we watch so many extremely wealthy people get away with truly terrible things.
Highly recommend for everyone’s 2022 reading list.
Thanks to NetGalley, William Morrow, and Kristen Miller for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I truly and absolutely loved this book. I devoured it. The characters were fully realized and dynamic, and when the book ended, I wanted more. Giving women power past their perceived “prime” is so important and relevant in today’s society, and I wish there were more stories like this. I’ll be thinking about this book for years to come.
This was such a good thriller! It kept me guessing and intrigued the whole time! The characters were likable and well developed. I would definitely recommend this to everyone!
Bewitching in every way! A wicked, witty feminist take on the classic mystery, with some magic, girl power, and murder at the center. This is an incredibly creative offering that will leave you wondering if that eccentric woman in your neighborhood really is a witch. While this book is a little cozier than my usual fare, I fully appreciated the entrancing characters, clever feminist themes, and inviting writing. A completely innovative and inviting reading experience that will draw you into its magical web, and leave your thinking about its characters and themes for a long time. Sign me up for Kristin Miller's next work. She is a talent to watch.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kristin Miller and William Morrow for this unique and bewitching reading experience.
A big Thank You to @Netgalley and @williammorrowbooks for the complimentary digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book!! Take your average thriller, stir in some magical realism and revenge fantasy, and you've got The Change!!
I was rooting for each of the main characters to do their best. They were 3 badass women that I'd want on my side!!
It definitely makes for the perfect beach read!!
The Change by Kirsten Miller is a fun femal empowered read. The female change of life strikes three friends who use the powers that come with it to solve murders and take matters into their own hands.
Thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Thanks to William Morrow for the copy of this ARC!
This was such a fun, empowering book with mystery and witchiness. I thought this was really engaging and unique and can’t wait to see what Kirsten Miller writes next.
Three women.Three supernatural gifts while they go through their change. Add in some dead girls and we’ve got the makings of a book! Nessa sees dead people. Yup. She finds the body of a young girl with Jo and Harriet and from their a mystery ensues.
This was an enjoyable enough read but at times I found myself not reaching for this book. I think it was the magic angle which isn’t usually my cup of tea. lol . My favorite character was Harriet, she was a bad ass free-spirited, horticulturist bitch. 😆 🌱 This book is chock full of female empowerment themes. Many times it felt similar to notes on an execution in that the focus was put on the dead girls and not the criminals.
Pick this up if you enjoy strong female badass characters and a little bi
This was such a fun read! The library will get a copy of it so we have it available for the patrons. Love it!
Thank you to William Morrow and Netgalley for the gifted ARC copy.
I expected an exploration of some tough subjects and feminist storytelling and that is definitely what I got and then some. This story was a fully women centered endeavor showcasing fabulous friendships and a tale of long overdue retribution. I loved it and would recommend it for a story that is a middle finger to the patriarchy and anyone who messes with a woman.
This story centers on 3 women who each have a hidden "talent" after they discover the nude body of a young girl in a trash bag on a beach. These talents are used to help women in need, we follow the three on their journey to figure out what is going on in their beach side community where the rich and powerful rule. Their backstories are told with all of the unfairness that the world throws at women along with the heartbreaking tales of the victims that a killer is targeting.
In the end I would describe this story as full of rage. There are numerous examples of women being ignored, gaslit, abused, mocked and judged so this is definitely an adult tale that may be triggering although there are not really explicit scenes. It is also full of adult language but also humor and ultimately the bond that women share in this world that seems so often against them. Most of the men portrayed in the book are awful but not every single one but I'm sure that some will see this as full of "man hate" and that may turn them off. Another thing that may turn people off is the length of the book and I admit it could probably have been cut down a bit more because it seemed to drag in spots.
Our three leads Jo, Harriet and Nessa are unapologetic about their unwillingness to back down when everyone tells them to. Someone has to fight for the girls that everyone wants to ignore and these three do it in a pitiless way that some may secretly wish really existed in this world so that evil people don't fall through the cracks or never pay for their awful deeds. The Change was a refreshingly energizing story to read and I'm thankful I got a chance to read it.
I loved this book! I loved Harriet, Jo, and Nessa’s alternating perspectives. The book combines magical realism with feminist and witchy undertones in a surprisingly fun story. I appreciated the social issues undertones including harassment and gender norms. Overall the story was engaging and original. I do think it was a little too long, but overall loved this story!
I really loved this book for its female friendships and female empowerment. These strong characters don’t accept status quo in their community and ban together to elevate their own possibilities to take down the wrongs that they encounter. Even though it was a longer book, it felt captivating and moved quickly. I couldn’t put it down! One of the best books I’ve read this year! Thank you, Netgalley and William Morrow & Company!
This book had so much potential and I was really enjoying it until 60% in when we started saying things like “god sent me to you”
*barf* keep your sky daddy out of it.
"Lucy darling, which of the princes do you prefer, Gorgeous George, or Luscious Louie?" "Which of them is going to be King?" Lucy asks. "George," Jo informed her. "Fine, then I'd choose George and throw in him jail on our wedding night, and take over the United Kingdom." "You're setting a bad example." Art was serious. You're raising our daughter to be kicked out of the sixth grade." "Fuck the sixth grade," said Lucy. "Didn't we just decide I'm gonna be Queen?" YAAAASSSSSS!
I loved this book and I really enjoyed how the author brought to light different social conflicts that women face especially compared to men. I loved the "power" aspect of aging and often found myself laughing or cheering when revenge was sought,
Harriet Osborne, a once successful advertising executive, has been put out to pasture as she approached turning 50. Her deserved promotion was given to a man who had nowhere near her qualifications. Divorced and living alone, she spends her time in her rather interesting garden and is viewed as the town witch. Nessa James is a widow and a retired nurse. As she has grown older, it appears she has inherited the family gift of hearing and seeing spirits. And Jo Levison, who was also pushed out of an executive position, operates a gym and as she has entered into the next stage of life, her changes have given her a new, strange strength. Hot flashes have a whole new meaning. When the women find the dead body of a teenage girl on the beach, they discover that more girls have gone missing and believe a serial killer is lurking. I don't want to spoil this or anything that happens, but I loved it and recommend it.
This was definitely a girl power book if I’ve ever read one!! I felt that the plot was so cool in that the women in the story possessed certain powers and I loved the way their character traits were presented throughout the story and evolved until the end.
I really enjoyed this one. It was amazing to see women “of a certain age” being so powerful. I also really liked the magical realism elements.
At its core, this book is about three women who share a special bond. Yes, they are friends but they also complete one another. Nessa can interact with those who have passed, Jo can channel rage through her body and Harriet who can do just about anything (good or bad!) with plants. They each have their own storylines, but they also have a common goal they are working towards.
This book is long, but it flows nicely. I thoroughly reccomend!
Many thanks to Kirsten Miller, William Morrow and Company and Goodreads for a digital copy of this book. I read and reviewed this voluntarily and opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own. This book is now available for purchase!
