It is so hard for me to review Diana Palmer books. I grew up reading her books. She was the first romance author I ever read (when I was 13!), So part of me will always love any book by her. There are always great things about her stories. A sweet romance, a bit of melodrama that makes me hate/love the hero, and of course the happy ending. However, I am finding that the stories are becoming repetitive and stuck in the 80's/90's. I recognize there is a certain appeal for some readers that the characters not moving with the times, but it no longer works for me. There's also the lecturing that seems to happen around a very specific topic (canning, or seat belts, or Spanish/American history). Kiss Me, Cowboy checks off everything devoted Palmer readers love about her stories, so I know I'll be recommending this book and others by her to my readers, but it wasn't for me.
Two novellas written by Diana Palmer is always a treat. The first “The Rancher’s Wedding” starts off with laughs which always make you turn the page. The second is more serious with more interest in what makes the characters the way they live. Worth reading.
I like Diana Palmer’s books, but I don’t like the fact that her books, like many others are old titles published under a different title.
I received an ARC from Net Galley.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great book from one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend to friends and family.
Two short novellas in this collection. I thought that both stories were enjoyable and nice to read. I really like Diana Palmer's writing. I would recommend this.
This is a collection of two novellas. As I started reading each, I distinctly remember reading the first chapter of each. After a little sleuthing I found that both stories had been in collections with Katie Pearce, The Rancher's Wedding was part of Marrying My Cowboy and Colorado Cowboy was in Lone Wolf. But I read them again. before realizing it. Both stories are connected by women who had fled to Benton, Colorado. In The Rancher's Wedding, Cassie Reed and her father had come to Benton after her father was falsely accused of sexual harassment and the hyenas on social media had harassed them so the point that Mrs. Reed had committed suicide. They are hiding out in Benton, until (Lanier ) Roger Reed's lawyer can get witnesses to provide that the woman had lied and had done this many times to "climb the ladder". Meanwhile, Cassie is working as a waitress in the local diner, where she meets wealthy rancher JL Denton. In the second book, Colorado Cowboy, Esther Marist flees for her life after witnessing her wealthy mother's boyfriend murdered her, by throwing her down the stairs. She too flees to Benton and ends up at the cabin of one armed Iraq veteran, Butch Matthews, who nows works for the Forest Service rehabilitating injured wildlife. Both men have been lied to by former fiancees, who were really only interested in their money. So as romance blossoms, both women are afraid to tell them that they are wealthy and in Cassie's case, she was very successful. Both women are also sexually moral, so clean reads. Many of the same characters are in both books, and there is Two Toes. I did enjoy the books the second time around.
I read an ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
I really enjoyed this book, well books as it was made up of two stories!
I thought that it had a good storyline, it was well developed and I really enjoyed the writing style in the two stories told by Diane, it is the same theme for both books and it worked really well.
The characters were really well developed and I loved getting to know them
The book was well written and enjoyable
It is 4 stars from me for this one, I really enjoyed it – highly recommended!
Two wonderful love stories with an alpha cowboy as the hero.
The Rancher’s Wedding
When a tough Colorado rancher who’s in the red meets up with a screenwriter-turned-waitress dogged by scandal, they put their talents—and their hearts—together. But will front page news put a damper on the sparks flying between them?
Colorado Cowboy
Fleeing her mother’s killer, Esther Marist ends up at a rugged stranger’s cabin. A wildlife rehabilitator with a menagerie that includes an elderly wolf, Matthews isn’t the type to turn any creature away. As Esther heals, she realizes how much danger she’s brought to his door—and how far he’ll go to protect her.
Both of these stories are shorter and quick reads. Colorado Cowboy was previously published.
I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I did not realize when I requested the ARC that this was two novellas that had been previously published. The first novella, Rancher's Wedding, I don't think I had read but I did recognize the second one, Colorado Cowboy.
Rancher's Wedding
I enjoyed this book the most of the two as we see JL and Cassie meet in Benton. Cassie and her father are hiding out and laying low after her father is falsely accused of sexual harassment.
What seemed rushed to me is that JL kept telling Cassie that he wasn't interested in marriage and they could only be friends. Then, the next thing you know, the whole town is gossiping because JL bought an engagement ring.
The part that I really was bothered about was JL expected Cassie to be open and honest with him - but they were just friends and I did not feel that his expectations were realistic. Not to mention, he falsely portrayed himself as a poor rancher when they first met. So, to judge her so harshly seemed out of place to me.
Colorado Cowboy
This novella was not my favorite but I did like that Esther went from being a helpless, clueless damsel in distress to learning to cook and got a job and tried to improve herself and her life.
I did like that after reading the first novella, we got to see Brady again and Two Toes, the wolf.
Now, I have to find the book about Parker which seems to have happened between the two novellas and find out how he met Katie and ended up as a stepfather!
KISS ME COWBOY is a compilation of two stories previously published: The Ranchers Wedding and Colorado Cowboy. Both appeared as Diana Palmer contribution to collaborative books by several authors. But in case you missed those two books you are in luck. Diana Palmer is always a joy to read and as a longtime fan of this prolific western romance writer it has been my pleasure to read and review many of her works. Diana Palmer has been creating romance since 1979 and it’s never too late to get on her journey.
First story is The Ranchers Wedding, a vintage Diana Palmer tale if there ever was. Diana Palmer likes to team up a tough cowboy or rancher with a somewhat naive somewhat quiet woman. As always it is a quest to see just how hard that tough guy really is. And how the woman quickly dominates the relationship. Not that she is pushy, just that she fascinates the big cowboy. In this case the femme fatale is really a writer who escaped notoriety in the big city, along with her widowed father. This is a tragic case of social media taking center stage and condemning an innocent man. The blowback is incredible and has this father and daughter looking for a small town to hide away in until the heat dies down. Hopefully it will, if not then they just may be here for a long time. Cassie is just trying to find her place. JL is a wealthy rancher with a distaste for women. Once burnt twice shy. You get the picture, but what JL never expected was how this rather nondescript female would work her way into his life. Totally uninvited. But caught this rancher’s eye.
Second installment is Colorado Cowboy. Starts out with the aftermath of a horrific scene. One where a woman is thrown down a staircase to her death. And witnessed by the daughter. Both Esther and her mother Terry had been living under a cloud of danger once Darrin, Terry’s latest man, moved in. He was controlling and abusive. And in the end, he directed his anger to the woman he thought of as his meal ticket. Esther had no option but to run for her life and the only place she could think to go was Denton. Her mom had spoken of a relative there. Basically ranches and a small town. With nothing but the clothes on her back she had to figure out how to support herself until she could speak with an attorney to settle her mother’s will. Most important to maintain a low profile. No doubt that Darrin was going to be looking for her and he had a cadre of mean guys eager to do his bidding. First person Esther meets is Bruce, ex-military with scars to show for it. Bruce works as an animal rehabilitator. He lives a rather quiet life, trusting animals more than people. His disability has made him understandably a loner especially when it came to women. But he sees the inner kindness of this stranger who collapsed at his doorway. Esther just may have found her white knight after all.
I didn't realize this is actually two novellas instead of one book when I got it. However, I enjoyed both stories and thought they were very well written. The characters were interesting, and the stories were fast. Both stories were page-turners and hard to put down. Well done!
This book was ok. It was an easy read. I have read a lot of Diana Palmer's books and I always look forward to them.
Kiss Me Cowboy by Diana Palmer is a combination of two previous stories. The Rancher's Wedding, and Colorado Cowboy are stories that I read before, but it had been a long time since I read them. This combination book was a fresh delight as both stories we well written and held my attention through the entire book. I love Diana Palmer's stories and highly recommend this collection of stories.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Two novellas about cowboys from Diana Palmer. I had already read one of them but the other one was enjoyable too ARC from NetGalley.
This book is two books together. Diana’s books follow a similar pattern and this is continued in these stories. I enjoy reading her stories due to the conflict in the characters’ relationships and how she always finds a believable way to get them together. Her stories always make my day better!
Kiss me Cowboy is a compilation of two novellas, The Rancher’s Wedding and Colorado Cowboy, by Diana Palmer. Both stories are set in Benton, Colorado and have a cross section of characters.
The Rancher’s Wedding tells the tale of wealthy rancher JL Denton and how he meets Cassie Reed. Cassie and her dad, Roger, recently moved to Benton to maintain a low key life and avoid the aftermath of a scandal. The secrets they keep may just be the downfall of the relationship.
Colorado Cowboy is the telling of the story of Butch Mathews and Esther Marist. Heiress Esther is fleeing from her mother’s murderer and seeking somewhere to stay. She fled with little money, and no cell phone. After hitching to small Benton, Esther approaches a cabin off the road and is found by wildlife rehab expert Butch Mathews. Butch is a disabled veteran, having lost part of an arm, and because of this his self esteem has taken some hits. This leads to a bumpy road.
These stories are very interesting and I did find the small town of Benton and it’s residents a place I would like to visit again. I enjoyed these stories and do recommend this book.
This is a book collection of 2 novella's with the 2nd one already previously been published. But as they are connected by characters that know each other, they have been put together into this book. Book 1 is The Rancher's Wedding and book 2 is Colorado Cowboy. So if you have read or have these books from previously, they are the exact same books just put together!
Book 1 The Rancher's Wedding
Cassie Reed was a writer for a popular show who has moved to Benton and is now a waitress. She came with her father in order to avoid their past and the problems that happened to them. JL is a local rancher who has just split with his fiance and isn't looking for another relationship any time soon. Not after the way it ended and how he was hurt by it. He and Cassie meet under unusual circumstances, and they find they have a connection that neither was expecting. I found it to be somewhat funny at times and a decent read, if a little off putting with JL at times. And the ending seemed extremely fast, almost abrupt.
Book 2 Colorado Cowboy
Esther ends up in Benton trying to hide from her mother's abusive boyfriend. Butch lost his arm when he was in the military and now spends his time as a wildlife rehabber. When Esther shows up at his home one night, he knows she is running from something but not what. And he lets her in because he knows he can keep her safe. It's a sweet, easy read but somewhat shorter than I would like. This novella was published just last year in an anthology with 2 other author's. I get wanting to put 2 interconnected novella's together but I almost wish that something had been added to the story to make it slightly different or even just to make it longer so it didn't feel quite so rushed.
All in all, these aren't bad reads. They are decent, I just wish they were longer and not so rushed along. I also wish the 2nd story wasn't just a re-release of a previous story. Or at least say that in the description for the book, because I definitely didn't know that until I was reading it and sat there thinking-but I already read this book.
This is a collection of two Cowboy Romance Novellas. I have to start off by saying the second Novellas in this book is Colorado Cowboy, and that novellas was in the Lone Wolf by Diana Palmer. Lone Wolf was also a collection of novellas, so I was a little upset that the same novella was in both these books. I wish this book was two new novellas. I did really love Colorado Cowboy. The first novella was The Rancher’s Wedding. That novella was good, but I felt the last part of this novella felt very rushed. I did love all the characters in that novella, and I really love the animals in this story. The plot pulled me into it, and I think there was a lot to it for a novella. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zebra Books) or author (Diana Palmer) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
The Rancher's Wedding
I liked this romantic story of Cassie, a waitress and JL, a rancher. They both had pasts and secrets that came to life for different reasons. It was very interesting learning about Cassie and her father.
Benton, Colorado sounded like a fun, small ranching community where the people had each other's backs. I really liked the small town and its fun characters.
Colorado Cowboy
I liked how the characters in this book tied in with the characters in the first book. This was a very quick love story that was interesting. I liked Esther but at times she seemed a little too naive. It was nice learning more about Butch, his job and his past. I wish the story was a little bit longer.
I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Ladies on the run.
Two novellas comprise Kiss Me, Cowboy.
In The Rancher's Wedding we have the innocent, naive Cassie, hiding out from being a TV writer with her dad.
JL is the jilted rancher who we spent an inordinate amount of time rehashing his last relationship.
In Colorado Cowboy, Esther is on the run and Butch is out to help her.
It had been a while since I read a Diana Palmer, but you know what you are getting, a slightly old fashioned western.
