When 12 year old Mavis discovers a body in a dilapidated building, it blows up her life and the lives of her mother Glenn and aunt Nathalie. Their father was killed 20 years ago and while their neighbor was presumed to have been the murderer because she killed herself, there's always been doubts in everyone's minds about what really happened that day. Told in the past- the 1990s- and the present, this is all about two women who have shoved ugly memories down. Nathalie is now a detective and she's got the current case while Glenn is a blogger. Is her marriage to Jack as stable as she thinks? Who is posting things on her blog? This might go over the top a bit but it has some good twists (I was surprised) and the characters are well done. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

Wow! This is absolutely one of the greatest binge- reading experiences I just had, accompanied with popcorn and seltzer! Absolutely one sit read you cannot able to put it down! There are too many coincidences in this book but thankfully all of them are necessary to complete the whole puzzle!

Murders from past and present perfectly are connected and so many twists are well formed! Some of them are easy to foresee and but some of them are truly shocking!

In 1995: Nathalie( 14) and Glenn Cavanaugh ( 12) shared a life changing tragedy: somebody bashed their abusive father’s head with a rock and their mother was person of interest till they found out their dear neighbor at next door who had a secret affair with their father killed him and committed suicide before she got arrested!

In the present time, Nathalie in 42, struggling detective with alcohol problem, suffering from loneliness, self sabotaging her happiness as Glenn married with Jack Abbott a decade younger than her, a popular baking blogger, working on her promotion company of her debut book, raising her 12 years old kid Mavis ( my favorite character of the book: extremely mature, smart, tough kid)

When Mavis takes a dare to intrude into an eerie empty building where the rats are having a garden party, but instead of bumping into drug addicts and homeless people who may use this place as a shelter, she finds a dead body, running out of the place, screaming at the top of her lungs! This is just the beginning of a serious of ominous incidents that rock both sisters’ lives connected with the deaths haunting their pasts!

Why Glenn’s husband Jack acts so suspiciously? What’s his connection with their new tenant crushing at their cottage? Why a mysterious realtor lurks around Glenn’s house?

There are so many questions and secrets the characters keep from each other! This is definitely fun and wild ride I highly recommend! Fast, intriguing, gripping, deliciously twisty!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

Told in dual timelines, 1990s and present, The Secrets We Share is the epitome of a suspenseful domestic thriller. Two decades ago sisters Natalie and Glenn suffered major trauma when their father was found murdered. This, of course, changed their lives. Natalie later became a detective and Glenn a baking blogger, two very different personalities and occupations, yet united. Secret after secret is revealed from the past and present and Lt. Angela White investigates and connects the dots. Glenn's young daughter Mavis makes the discovery of her lifetime and sisters struggle with their personal lives.

When the twists started coming, the pace became faster and tenser. Though I wanted to get to the end to find out what happened, I did not want the end to come.

If you enjoy thrillers, do read this one. Just know that there is quite a lot of police procedure, something which is not my wheelhouse but that is merely a personal preference. I did not engage with the characters but do not need likeable characters to enjoy a book.

My sincere thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this tense and taut book.

Wow, this book is a very heavy police procedural novel. There are a lot of characters, it was almost mind-boggling, so be prepared to have a pen and paper handy to take notes as you read. Natalie Cavanaugh and her sister, Glenn Abbott, are polar opposites. Glenn is a food blogger, who has recently gone viral, and Natalie is a detective. They do not really get along. When a string of murders start happening within the community, they are taken back to their father's murder in the past, which their neighbor was the prime suspect of. Make sure you are ready to commit to a novel with a lot of information over different decades. At times, it just seemed very unrealistic, and maybe even a little bit heavily done with detail. It was hard to put down, nonetheless. If you enjoy police/detective novels, this one will be for you. This was my first novel by Edwin Hill, and I would read more by him given the chance.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ ½
Genre: Mystery Thriller

Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters. Natalie is a detective while Glenn is a blogger and is preparing to publish a new book. Twenty years ago Natalie discovered her father’s body in the woods. The killer has not been caught. But their father was not a faithful husband to their mother. He was in an affair with their neighbor Diane Sykes who commits suicide right after Natalie’s father is found dead. Now it is the present and things are not going right. Past secrets and present worries and fears will all turn into a big turmoil for the members of this family.

The book has two timelines, past (the 1990s) and present. However, the part about the past is not that big compared to the present so there will be no confusion in case you are worried about reading a story with two timelines. You are not going to mix up things. This story was like a rollercoaster in terms of events and twists. There are many twists. The characters are not that honest. I felt the plot dragged in some parts but very soon something happens and as a reader, you move on. It is an amusing mystery thriller with lots of action. However, my main issue with it is the believability factor. At times the events were going over the top making it hard for me to digest certain things. I don’t want to reveal more because this is a thriller and nothing should be spoiled. Overall, it is a fun story and you will enjoy it if you are ready to ignore the parts that are unplausible.

Many thanks to the publisher Kensington Books and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader copy of this book.

Edwin Hill keeps getting better with each book he writes. I greatly look forward to his books. I really enjoyed reading this one. I loved the character development. The many mysteries kept me guessing and kept me awake well past my bedtime.

I devoured this upcoming popcorn domestic thriller! This is Edwin Hill’s first standalone and it didn’t disappoint! If you haven’t read him before I highly recommend his Hester Thursby series, all of which you can find reviews for on my Goodreads!

I’ve said this probably 1,000 times, but I reallllly love his writing style. It’s propulsive and dialogue driven- we don’t waste time on pages and pages of descriptions. It’s all right to the point and pulls no punches. We get twists upon twists right up into the last page. It was such a wild ride!

While this is a standalone and you can totally read it as such, it does have characters from his Hester Thursby series in it. Including Hester herself! It was such a fun surprise since I love those characters so much. I feel like this could have been an addition to the HT series, but can see why it’s a standalone on its own. But overall another really great read from my friends @kensingtonbooks and the wonderful @edwinhillauthor! Thanks so much for the ARC to review, can’t wait to see what’s next!

"Explore the deep bonds—and deadly secrets—between two very different sisters haunted by the crimes of their father murdered nearly twenty years earlier…"

I just finished The Secrets We Share by Edwin Hill and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was!

I'm not a huge fan of police procedurals and this had the police element to it since the main character, Natalie is a detective and the book centers on a dead body (or two...or three...)

This novel has everything- sisters, secrets, murders, drama, unreliable characters, converging plot lines...and I loved it!

Have you read books by this author? I will be on the lookout for more stories from Edwin!

This comes out on March 29.

This was such a gripping read! There were lots of twists, and just when I thought I knew what was going on, another secret was revealed. I loved how the murder investigation brought up all these secrets surrounding the murder of Natalie & Glenn's father. This was a fast paced read & I loved every minute of it.

Who knew the Boston suburbs could be so dangerous? When police detective Natalie Cavanaugh learns that a body has been found in an abandoned warehouse, she’s shocked to learn that her 12-year-old niece, Mavis, is the one who found the murder victim. Mavis’s mother is Natalie’s sister, Glenn Abbott. The sisters are almost polar opposites. Natalie looks like a cop, even when out of uniform and off the job. Glenn is the perfectly coiffed and dressed suburban mom, working to break into the big time with a book based on her popular baking blog.

More threats and violence arrive quickly, and they make Natalie wonder if there is a connection to the past, in another nearby Boston suburb. Back when Glenn and Natalie were teens, their abusive father was murdered, and there are still questions and trauma arising from the crimes and its aftermath.

If, like me, you’re a fan of Edwin Hill’s Hester Thursby series, you should be aware that this is a standalone and not part of the series. But like the books in that series, this book puts as much emphasis on presenting characters you’ll care about—with all their flaws—as on the zippy plot. And you’ll actually get to see Hester in a cameo part, as well as a bit bigger role for one of the Hester Thursby series side characters, Detective Lieutenant Angela White.

This is a fast-paced suburban thriller with a sins-of-the-past element. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you on edge and guessing.

Two sisters, Glenn and Natalie, survived the horrific murder of their father when they were just kids. Now, in later years, they both seem to have overcompensated. Glenn copes by becoming an online celebrity baker with a popular blog and an upcoming book. She is married with a young daughter. Natalie has become a Boston cop who constantly proves how tough she is but can’t seem to get her personal life together.

As Glenn approaches her success, she begins getting threatening messages. Things get worse when her daughter enters an abandoned warehouse and discovers a body. So Natalie gets involved. Both sisters are soon in jeopardy and trying to think if the past may somehow be part of the current threats, or if this is something new.

This is twisty thriller at a frenetic pace with red herrings, improbable turns, and suspects galore. Plot points could have easily been resolved if the sisters communicated better with each other and those around them. But what fun would that have been? Suspend logic and read on!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this title.

Natalie Cavanaugh is a tough cop, a detective to be specific. When a body is found in an abandoned building she is called to the scene to begin the investigation. Things become more complicated when Natalie learns it was her niece who discovered the body, not to mention the wallet found at the scene which belongs to someone Natalie used to date.
Glenn is Natalie’s sister. She runs a baking blog and is about to publish a book. Lately she has been receiving strange messages on the blog, messages that say someone is watching her.
As the investigation continues into the body in the building, Natalie and Glenn are forced to confront their past, a past that includes their dead father, their accuses mother, and the neighbor accused of having an affair with their dad, a neighbor that eventually committed suicide. As the truth is uncovered about the body in the building Natalie begins to question the facts surrounding the death of her father and the events that followed it.

Edwin Hill delivers another page-turner in The Secrets We Share. While I figured out a couple of the twists in the novel early on, there were others that I did not see coming. I really enjoyed the setup of the novel. While mainly taking place in the present, there are little glimpses into the past, and I liked the mirroring that occurred between the events within the two timelines. The characters really pulled me into the novel; I wanted to know who did what and how they would fare in the end. I especially liked Mavis. Without giving anything away, I will simply say that the ending is extremely fitting to the story.

I highly recommend The Secrets We Share by Edwin Hill, available March 29th. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for gifting to me an advanced e-copy of The Secrets We Share in exchange for an honest review; all opinions are my own.

Every now and then you come across a hidden gem. Something that you would not be able to anticipate happening but when it does, you are left in total awe.

This is how I felt after picking up The Secrets We Share.

It was a lazy Monday night, nothing on tv and the bachelor just wasn't doing it for me. So, I picked up my kindle and started scrolling. The cover of The Secrets We Share, grabbed my attention, so I started reading....

Boy oh boy was I in for a treat.

Monday night turned into Tuesday morning quite quickly. I just could not put this book down!

This was a fast pace, twisted novel that had me at the edge of my seating in constant suspense of what would happen next. The story centers around two sisters who experienced trauma in the past when their father was murdered. Although they were children at the time, now as adults strange things begin to happen. Someone is hell bent on exposing the secrets long buried from that fateful night.

Although there were some points that were a little too far fetched and unbelievable, the story was still an entertaining one and I would definitely recommend this to my book loving pals. I also loved all of the unexpected surprises that were brought to light throughout the story.

I cant wait to see what Edwin Hill, comes out with next!

This book was twisty and moved at a fast clip, but the story itself was a little ridiculous. It is centered on sisters Natalie and Glenn whose dad was murdered when they were kids; now weird things are happening that make it clear that someone knows the secrets they buried all those years ago.

The book is action packed and there is a lot happening. There are multiple surprise twists throughout. The thing that got me was that some of the plot twists required me to majorly suspend my disbelief, and I felt like the author sometimes tried too hard for the shock factor. I also couldn’t get past the fact that Natalie was so involved in the case that centered around her own family; there is no way a real police force would let that happen.

Overall, definitely a fun read but was just a little out there for me. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a Crime Thriller. I had very high hopes for this book because of all the reviews I have read. I read over a hundred pages of this book before DNFing this book. The way this book was told I found it hard to really get to how the characters, and I also did not felt anything for any of the characters. There was a lot going, but I just could not make myself follow the mystery/everything that was going on. I think the writing style was just not for me. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Oh this was a FUN, twisty read! This was my second Edwin Hill book, and I look forward to reading more of his work.

Awesome
Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott hardly look like sisters. Even off-duty, Natalie dresses like a Boston cop, preferring practical clothes and unfussy, pinned-up hair. Her younger sister, Glenn, seems tailor-made for the spotlight, from her signature red mane to her camera-ready smile. Glenn has spent years cultivating her brand through her baking blog, and with the publication of her new book, that hard work seems about to pay off. But her fans have no idea about the nightmare in Glenn and Natalie’s past.
Twenty years ago, their father’s body was discovered in the woods behind their house. A trauma like that doesn’t fit with Glenn’s public image. Yet, maybe someone reading her blog does know something. There have been anonymous online messages, vague yet ominous, hinting that she’s being watched. And with unsettling coincidences hitting ever closer to home, both Glenn and Natalie soon have more pressing matters to worry about, especially when a dead body is found in an abandoned building.
Natalie is starting to wonder how much Glenn really knows about the people closest to her. But are there also secrets Natalie has yet to uncover about those she herself trusts? For two decades, she’s believed their father was murdered by their neighbor, with whom he was having an affair. But if those events are connected to what’s happening now, maybe there’s much more that Natalie doesn’t know. About their father. About their neighbors. About her friends. Maybe even about herself.
But there are no secrets between sisters…are there?
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for giving me an advanced copy.

This was an interesting book, at times a little confusing and at times a little complicated. Multiple secrets, multi points of view, multiple possible suspects, and more and more as the book continued.
