While being stuck at home over the past few years - nothing could be better than reading a phenomenal contemporary romance that takes you away to Ireland. Enter - The Rebound by Catherine Walsh.
Abby Reynolds escaped her rural Irish town and got away to New York - landed the dream job, fell in love and got engaged - only to have it all fall apart. The Rebound is the laugh out loud story of Abby returning home. From the moment she lands chaos ensues. She misses the last bus home, only to be saved by a very hot “stranger” who Abby later discovers was her next door neighbor growing up. But for Abby to move on - she has to face some very hard truths - will she??
The story is filled with laughter, tears, and some romance thrown in there too! All set in a cozy Irish town - which makes me want to hop on a plane right away.
I loved Catherine Walsh’s first novel (One Night Only), as I do The Rebound. I can’t wait to read whatever she writes next!
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC (I apologize for the delay in writing my review). All opinions are my own.
Aaah I loved this book! Classic romance filled with secrets. I think a lot of people can relate to wanting to escape your hometown for bigger things, only to feel like a complete failure if you have to return. Abby is a lovely character and Luke is exactly like you’d imagine ‘Gilmore girls’ Luke. It’s not too steamy, mostly just a cozy little romance but it’s the type of book you just read in one go on a rainy sunday.
Loved this!!!! So much so that I immediately bought the authors other book, One Night Only which I also absolutely adored ;)
Not sure if it was the magical draw of the Irish landscape, the second chance at a family and coming home, or just the effortless feel to the writing that kept me hooked. Whatever it was, I could not stop reading! I loved the characters and even felt like the side story of her sister was super interesting, I wouldn’t mind another spin off with her sister as the main character!
I’ll definitely be keeping Walsh in my auto buy category from now on!!!
When you lose everything, you want to go home to start over. I felt this! Abby moves home to Ireland to start her new life. It is a refreshing story about reconnecting with family and friends, trying new things and taking chances. This book felt very relatable.
this was SO lovely! the writing style is perfect for me and i loved the main character which is a big win. the pacing of the book was done so well that i just forgot that i was reading.
The Rebound by Catherine Walsh is a romantic comedy about Abby Reynolds, a girl who's fiance has broken up with her, who's lost her job in New York City, and who's traveled back home to Ireland. She happens to run into Luke at the bus station when she arrives in Ireland and doesn't even realize that he was her childhood friend many years ago. Does Abby fall for Luke because she need to get over her ex? Or could this be the real deal? This book was such a fun read--the characters, the setting, the plot were all very well done. Thank to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
This is labeled a rom com but I would call it more of a women’s fiction. I adored the setting in a small Irish town and I loved the character growth. In my opinion the romance was secondary in the story and the sex scene was fade to black. I really enjoyed the full cast of characters and the journey Abby takes on her HEA journey.
I loved this. It was fun, snappy, and cute. A very relaxing and cozy romantic read. It’s nice to have the lead choose her own life over that of others for once, too many leads in these types of books give up al of their dreams for other people. Abby grew and learned what she wanted and went for it.
I really enjoyed reading this book, but when I finished it, I didn’t have that satisfied feeling I usually have after a good romcom. The chemistry between Luke and Abby was undeniable, and her relationship with her sister was realistic and very funny at times. There were definitely plenty of laugh out loud moments. But something fell a little flat towards the end of the story. I have read quite a few books with similar concepts, so it did feel a little copy-paste in areas.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review,
This book was adorable! It was the perfect beach read. I enjoyed reading this story, which takes place in Ireland. The characters were well developed and interesting and the plot was fun. It was a little predictable at times, and the relationship between the main character and her sister was one that many might be able to relate to. Overall, it was a wonderful little read, and I am glad to have had the opportunity. This book was given to me as ARC from netgalley.com in trade for my honest opinion.
This was the first book by Catherine walsh that I've read, I absolutely adored it.
I love everything from the cute cover to the family relationships.
The Irish setting was fab, and exactly captured irish life and attitudes.
Abby and Luke make a great pair and I adored them as a couple.
All the characters read well written and played a perfect part in the overall story.
An excellent rom com that I couldn't put down.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this one. Abbey had left the bright lights of New York to go back to Ireland after her high powered life fell apart.
She didn’t have a great relationship with her sister who’s house she was hiding out in, rural Ireland is a million miles away from her old life in America and she has just realised the handsome guy who gave her a lift from the airport was literally “the boy next door” who she had ignored for most of her childhood.
Yes the story is predictable, yes it followed the same format as every other rom-com but it was still lovely, and had me sucked in from the very beginning.

After her fiance breaks off their engagement and relationship and she loses her dream job, Abby has hit her idea of rock bottom. Now back in her home town and staying with her sister itz time for her to pick up the pieces. As if life can't get any worse her first night back is nothing but disaster after disaster. But after a friendly stranger offers her a ride to her sisters things might not be so bad. That is until the friendly stranger turns out to be the next door neighbor, a boy she grew up and grew apart from, Luke. Only Luke isn't a boy anymore and Abby can't help but find him attractive. Will Luke and Abby finally reconnect after all these years or are they better off as two friends who grew apart all those years ago?
I Really enjoyed Abby and Luke's story. It was more than just a romantic comedy. It was also a book of self discovery and realizing that sometimes the home you left behind is a place worth being. This book had so many different elements to it. I enjoyed all the different aspects of friendship, love, and family. Abby's character showed so much depth and growth and Luke was very home grown and organic.
This book had great writing from the first to the last page and instantly drew you into abbys world.
What a refreshing take it was on the everyday, run of the mill rom-coms of the market right now.
“And I mean that, Abby. Every day. Every moment, no matter how hard I tried not to. I can’t bear the thought of you going back to him. Of you being with anyone but me. And I know how that sounds and I know it’s selfish and I know you’re not owned by anyone but I love you. I love you and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before.”
Taking place all the way across the pond, our story starts with our main character Abby flying back home to Ireland from New York after her company goes bankrupt and she losses her job. After a long day of travel and time changes, it’s just her luck that the bus she needs to catch isn’t running that day…
When a kind stranger, Luke, offers to give her a ride, she reluctantly accepts. But the awkward banter quickly turns to flirting when they realize they are both attracted to each other. It’s not until the next day when the same stranger knocks on the front door of Abby’s childhood home that she figures out he wasn’t a stranger at all, but that her and Luke were classmates growing up.
What I loved about this book was the real life drama. From breakups, to trying to start a family and tense relationships, we see it all. Our characters have real fears and emotions that dictate their every move. As each chapter went by, we saw them grow and change the way they see things.
Another thing I love about this book was the fact that the relationships weren’t easy. There was no magical moment or perfect day that had them seeing with heart eyes. There were small moments where you could see that spark, but there were also fights and hard conversations.
The only thing left to say is to go read it. This cute romance book hooked me from the start and I couldn’t get enough. While I already miss this new book couple, I am excited to see more from this author Catherine Walsh!
When Abby flees NYC heartbroken and jobless back to Ireland she feels like nothing will ever go her way again, until a handsome stranger gives her a ride back to her sister's house. Abby and her sister haven't gotten on in quite some time, but Abby has nowhere else to go. When Abby finds out the handsome stranger was her former neighbor growing up, she is in utter shock of the transformation.
Will Abby get a second chance at love?
3/5-
Abby’s life in NYC is ruined. Fired, broken off engagement, and no apartment, she goes home to Ireland to regroup. Working on her relationship with her sister and spending more time with her childhood neighbor Luke, Abby is learning what she needs to deprioritize in life.
This book was cute, but nothing super special. The multiple miscommunication fights for Abby & Luke was frustrating, and the book centered more on Abby’s growth (that at the end didn’t feel much like growth IMO. A clean romance, I just couldn’t get into the storyline enough to really enjoy this, but I didn’t dislike it either.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an eARC copy of The Rebound by Catherine Walsh, in exchange for my honest review!
This is a wonderful book!! I was laughing so hard while reading I scared my poor dog🤣 — first book I have read by this author and I will be hunting for more! I simply didn’t want the story to end!!
The Rebound was my first book by Catherine Walsh and now that I finished it - I'M DEFINITELY A FAN!
Abby lost everything in the big city and there's only one way to lick her wounds - spend some time in Ireland. On her way to Clonard she meets Luke. He's a very handsome and obliging guy.
How long will Abby stay with her sister? And what's going on with Luke? Could there be more?
Awwwww! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
The cover totally got my attention and when I got approved I was unbelievably happy about it!
The story of Abby and Luke was sooooo damn funny and heartwarming!
I laughed so much while I read their beautiful love story!
What a fabulous experience!
I loved to see Abby's development! She learned so much back home... and it was also kinda inspiring too. ♡
I loved all the things she had to deal with and how she mastered them.
She's really such a sassy and self-confident woman who's just perfect for Luke.
He's more like the quiet, but absolutely hot and caring guy. Awwwww!!! Be still my beating heart!
So all in all The Rebound was a really quick read with so many funny and romantic and emotional moments.
WONDERFUL!
I can't wait to discover more of Catherine Walsh's books!
♡ Thanks to Catherine Walsh and Bookouture for this ARC via NetGalley.
This is my honest review in my own words.
This was a cute rom-com set in Ireland after Abby loses her fiancé and her job back in New York. I got a few Gilmore Girls vibes from the town leader Andrew - with all of the little festivities he put together for the town and the town meetings/committees he tried to get people to attend - which made me giggle. And I absolutely loved Tomasz’s character - there were a few moments in the story that I literally laughed out loud at something he did or said!
One of the only issues I had was that I felt like there was quite a lot of miscommunication (between Abby & her sister, Abby & Luke, Abby & Tyler) which was a little frustrating but overall I thought this was a fun book! Very well done!
A tall dark and handsome man plus a single girl, the perfect recipe for a love story! The Rebound is more like the start of something real.
