This was a cute mistaken identity romance. I really enjoyed it, the characters were really well done and they had great chemistry. I liked how Abby really struggled with the image everyone had of her vs. the reality, which was quite different. I also liked the journey she and her sister go on to find each other again, although I wish Abby had told the truth to her family earlier in the book.
From the Publisher:
“It’s 7 a.m. on a Monday morning and Abby Reynolds isn’t where she wants to be. She wants to be in her beautiful loft apartment in Manhattan, drinking a coffee with her fiancé. Instead, she’s heading back to the childhood home in rural Ireland she swore she’d never return to, with some big old secrets. Namely that she’s suddenly found herself unemployed, homeless, and absolutely 100% single.
She’s feeling all out of luck. Until the first person she meets after she touches down is an absurdly hot guy called Luke, who offers her a lift home. Gazing deep into his sparkling emerald-green eyes, Abby knows instantly that he’s exactly what she needs to take her mind off everything. The perfect rebound.”
I recommend this book, 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was a really cute book with some really great moments. I was frustrated with the miscommunication trope, but the characters were really likable. It’s a light-hearted, quick, and easy read. The plot was fairly predictable, but I didn't mind it. Definitely would recommend giving it a try.
First of all it’s no secret that I am a sucker for RomComs so I was super excited to read this book. It’s just a classic and an easy read with lovely characters and written in a way that lets you sink right into the world of Abby. It was good and I enjoyed it .
The Rebound was a cute story based in Ireland about Abby Reynolds who is forced to go back home after losing her fiancé, her job, and her apartment.
I thought this story was really cute but maybe a little misleading. It was missing more of the element of a “rebound”. I also wish we got more of a backstory on Luke and Abby’s friendship growing up.
I did love that there were more elements to this read besides just a cute romance. Abby’s relationship with her sister was something I really enjoyed watching develop.
I really enjoyed this lighthearted read.

3.5 stars.
Charming and cute The Rebound was a book that contemporary romance lovers will love.
I was hooked from the start. I loved the MC being a string ambitious women in a corporate world. The merging of her old life and current life was an interesting combination throw in family relationships, old friends, new friends and the Irish landscape. It was funny but with a storyline that kept you wanting it to end well. I really enjoyed it. Thanks Netgally for the copy.
Thank you Net Galley for a copy of The Rebound by Catherine Walsh. This book was supposed to be funny but I didn't find it funny. Is it me? Well, I still liked it!
I adored Walsh's first book One Night Only and fell in love with Declan immediately! I was hopeful this would be the case again with how the intro with Luke and Abby went. While this book was still cute, I felt it took much longer to get to all the cuteness that I enjoyed about Walsh's first book. I think what I disliked the most was all the lack of/mis-communication throughout a large chunk of the book which left me frustrated many times. I love the setting of Ireland in the books and I can tell Walsh is a talented chick lit author so I would definitely be interested to read her next book to see if its back on the One Night Only level for me!
this was such a fun romance showing a good dynamic in childhood friends to lovers. the writing was well done and all the additional characters were memorable and cherished the main couple as individuals and together, showing such a pure support group. it also felt really realistic and relatable. really loved this one.
I enjoyed this book, the characters were well written and likable, this is my first book by Catherine and I will be looking for other books she has written, thanks for the opportunity to read this book.
Loving the Irish vibes! I read Catherine Walsh’s previous book and I enjoyed it so when I saw she had a new book, I had to read it. I didn’t love this book quite as much as One Night Only, but it was still really good. The only thing I didn’t really like about this book is all of the miscommunication. Between her and her family, her and Luke, and her and Tyler, it was just a lot. I didn’t love how she wasn’t honest with her family from the beginning. It is an enjoyable, easy read but there’s nothing really memorable about this book. I do love the adorable cover, it is so cute!! 3.5 stars rounded up to 4!
Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for the gifted copy in return for my honest review.
I loved this just as much as Catherine's first book. It's full of the sights and sounds of Ireland that I've come to know and love from growing up there, and miss from having moved away. The family fun day reminded me so much of the community fair in my own local area.
I felt a strong connection to Abby, restarting her life after such an upheaval. Reading her "recovery" was wonderful.
My favourite character though overall was Beth, she was so warm and funny. I would love a book focused on her and her cosy café.
I think this book fits into Women's Fiction better, as many other reviewers here have pointed out - yes, there's a romance, but I wouldn't say it's as much of the focus as other books. Much more emphasis is placed on Abby, her family, and her getting her life back on track. The romance between Abby and Luke is slow burn, very sweet, and closed door.
I really enjoyed this cute little romcom! The chemistry and tug of war between Abby and Luke was a lot of fun to read and I love big city girl coming back to her small country hometown vibe. I thought that the side characters were also really interesting and fun, rather than being just ways to move the main characters romance further along. The way the author had written Abby and Louise's relationship was really great I think. It felt realistic and interesting and natural rather than just a a rushed tying up of loose ends which I think can sometimes happen. Beth was definitely my favourite side character though! She was just so sweet and funny.
4/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this copy to review
I really enjoyed this rom com, Abby looses everything, her job, her apartment and even her fiancé, this book is the story of how she picks herself up and finds love again. A great book to take on holiday and a new author to look out for.
3.5 stars. This was a pretty cute book! But if I'm being honest, I have a weird relationship with Catherine Walsh’s books because I LOVE her writing and her characters, but I feel like the stories themselves seem to fall a little flat for me? This was still cute and fun and I definitely enjoyed my time reading it, but I'm hoping that one day I will *hopefully* really fall in love with one of her stories. We shall see!
CW: cheating, fertility struggles
This was such a cute fun read! I can’t wait to tell all my family and friends to read it! I’m so glad I got chosen to read it
This was my first novel by the author, and I really enjoyed this book. I do agree with the other reviewers though that it could fit into the Women's literature category better than in the romance one. All in all, this was a lovely story and really difficult to put down!

The Rebound by Catherine Walsh tells the story of Abby Reynolds, who’s newly single and out of her dream job on her way back to her childhood home in rural Ireland, where she meets the handsome Luke Bailey that apparently, she already knows. Once back home she finds herself trying to cope with both the previous events of her life and the idea of being again in a town that she wanted to escape as soon as she was old enough.
This is my second novel by the author, and I couldn’t have loved it more, it was really hard to put it down and I had no idea that this was going to happen when I first started it. My surprise comes from having read the author’s debut novel, One Night Only, which I liked very much but didn’t thoroughly enjoy as much as The Rebound.
While it is true that this book fits more in the Women’s Fiction genre than in the Romance one, it didn’t bother me at all to realize that while going through the book. The romance between Abby and Luke might not be the focus of the book, but I feel like there was this perfect balance brought by the author between the Women’s Fiction aspect and the Romance one. I loved to read about the development of Abby, mostly her relationship and feelings towards her hometown and the process of reconciliation with her sister. As for the romance, I found it cute and light and I think that Abby and Luke’s relationship had a great development to the extent that they always tried to understand one another.
All in all, it was a great book that it’s worth to be read if you enjoy small towns, family bonds, a little bit of gossip and swoony feelings from the most adorable couple!
As a fan of Sophie Kinsella’s books, I decided to try The Rebound from Catherine Walsh.
Because every once in a while, you just need a feelgood romantic comedy. However, the story really didn’t start as a light hearted comedy: Abby has lost her fiancé, her house and her job. So, now she went back from New York to her homeland Ireland.
There, she gets a lift from a handsome stranger. Feeling a little bold, Abby starts flirting with him. Seeing it as the perfect rebound to get over her ex. But next morning Abby finds out that the handsome stranger is no other than the boy next door from her childhood years. The same one, who thinks she is still
engaged to be married next year, and having a big shot job in New york. just as her family does…. Will Abby tell them the truth or will she forget about her rebound options? Although the story did have some funny scenes and cute characters, it sometimes dragged on a bit. So nice, yes. Romcom? Mweh. But funny and cute. Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
I enjoyed this book, but I didn’t love it. For the longest time, I really didn’t care for Abby as a character. I think the author ultimately developed her well, but it very much felt like a mid-life crisis. The relationship between Abby and Luke was sweeter than I expected. I really don’t agree with how the book is marketed. On the cover it calls the book an “absolutely hilarious romantic comedy” and beyond being redundant, I thought it was untrue. The book really wasn’t that funny. I guess you could call it a romcom, but contemporary romance would just fit so much better.
