This story felt relatable in the sense of personal growth and relationships. I also love that this takes place in Ireland. I've been and absolutely LOVE Ireland. I first requested this book because of the cover and synopsis. Quick, fun and easy read.
This was such a fun book to read! I absolutely loved the Ireland setting, and the concept was adorable. I'm still not quite sure how Luke was sooo unrecognizable, so that part fell a little bit for me. But overall I really appreciated the growth that the characters went through. There wasn't that much miscommunication, which I loved! That trope can be so frustrating. I also really enjoyed the ending. Overall Luke and Abby were a very fun couple to read about. I don't want to say what happens in fear of spoilers, but I appreciated that there was a different option given at the end, which normally doesn't happen!
Genre: Romance, Contemporary, Female Fiction
Tropes: slowburn, home again, childhood friends(?) to lovers, boy next door.
Triggers: Infertility
Spice Level: .5/5 (barely)
Part of Series: No, this is a standalone novel
Rating: 3.5/5
Synopsis: Abby Reynolds's world has come crashing down, not only has been dumped by her fiance, she also has lost what she thought was her dream job. And if all that wasn't enough she is forced to return back to her childhood home, the place she had run from as fast as she could without looking back. Everyone in the village, still thinks she’s a high-flying New Yorker… who’s getting married next year, can she admit to everyone, especially the hot guy who brought her home and ends up being her childhood friend, all that she lost and start over? Or will she continue the charade until she can get her feet back under her? While using that same neighbor for the one thing she needs to get over it all, a nice and easy rebound.
My Thoughts: This book took me a while to get into, while I loved the premise and the idea of it, something about it just didn't grasp me when I first started. So I set it aside and read something else first before going back to it, and I'm extremely glad that I did.
It was cute, really cute. The relationships between the characters were relatable and situations that were presented in the book were handled in a realistic way that didn't have me cringing in a this doesn't happen sort of way. The banter and humor in the book was top-notch and kept me going after I got past the first few chapters of the book.
The supporting cast of characters was great, I loved Jess. Have a friend just like her and honestly I'd love to see her and Beth. Beth was the first new friend that Abby made when she was forced to return home and was everything she needed in that small town to force her to see the town through fresh eyes, and not what she remembered from her past.
Seeing the strained relationship between Abby and her sister Louise, mend itself while she was the type of side plot that adds to the story and doesn't detract from it. I also loved seeing Louise and her husband's relationship, seeing a well-balanced couple I think also helped Abby realize just what was missing from her own with her former fiance and helped her realize that wasn't what she wanted any longer. That she wanted something more, and that the boy next door might just be that more, if she could only find the courage to ask.
This is a great light-hearted story that has found its perfect release day on Feb 14. I know a few friends I'll be recommending this to.
A cute romantic comedy with fun characters and interesting writing. I loved this so much a enjoyable quick read
It's a very nice romance that will both fascinate and humour its readers. It's sprinkled with cute scenes, it has banter and relatable characters and well, for me, it was a total page-turner. And some situations described here are so real and usually not mentioned in books, that you really have to appreciate it as it definitely showed some originality.
I liked this book more than I expected. This is a rom com, not spicy.
I started this book with no expectation, really; and I was surprised by the well constructed characters, the real situation this mc faced, and at how much it made me laugh.
Luke was my favorite character: he's mature; knows how to be in a relationship, he listens, he wants no talk about problems, and makes the right decisions for him. Mi only problem was that as soon as they solved a problem, another one appeared. They spent very little time together, I just wanted more of them; but I also understand that each one had an independent life, and I liked that.
Thanks for this copy of the book, I really enjoyed reading it.
This was a cute romance.
I liked the characters, the plot was somewhat predictable, but still enjoyable. A quick read.
Definitely recommend to someone who wants to get lost in a light, easy to digest read.
I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Loved all the characters. The relationship growth between two sisters, and a woman trying to connect with her past in her home town. This story is one of those that makes you feel good, reminders of home comfort, and family will always be there for you in your biggest time of need.
This was an o.k. read but I wasn't blown away. I love a story about rediscovering those you knew as a child, especially when they've grown up crazy hot and sexy, however, I just did not like Abby and certainly wasn't rooting for a romance involving her. I think I'm burned out on books that are based on lies and keeping up images, so I will certainly give this author another try in the future. But the plot of losing one's job, apartment, boyfriend, etc. but then going home to lie to friends and family has been overdone. However, if you look at reviews I am in the minority with opinion, so give it a chance for yourself.
*Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Rebound was a fun rom-com and just what I needed! I really like Luke and Abby together, their chemistry is evident right from the moment they meet. I also enjoyed the side characters, Beth, Jess, Louise, Thomasz - they were all different and well rounded, it was so nice to have side characters who actually do something and are there for a reason.
The plot had quite a lot going on and although the miscommunication trope was used quite heavily, I didn't mind it like I normally do. It actually made sense and the characters did try and talk things through, but the situation and other factors meant the miscommunications happened.
This book really reminded me of the film Leap Year, it's a similar sort of plot so if you liked Leap Year you'll love The Rebound. I read The Rebound in a single day so I definitely recommend it, I would've liked more scenes of Luke and Abby actually being in a relationship but other than that it was a solid read!

❤️BOOK REVIEWS❤️
💕Valentine’s Day just got a little sweeter with these two books being released. I don’t read as much chick lit romance books as I once did, but after reading them I remembered what I loved about them. They are easy, fun, and a great switch up for the serious and scary books I read.
😍What I LIKED about both books:
💕They book take place in Ireland or a small remote Irish island. (I’m a sucker for books that take place in Ireland as I like talking with the accent in my head while I’m reading.🤪)
💕How each book ended!! (Sometimes for me romance has cringe-worthy endings and I thought both of these stayed true to the main characters.
💕The small town feel and community. This provided great supporting characters! 👏👏
💕The amount of romance!! Sometimes in romance books they are humping 🍆 entirely way too much for my liking (I love a great sex scene as much as the next person but once it get overdone, I’m annoyed.)
❤️ONE NIGHT ON THE ISLAND THOUGHTS ❤️
I loved this one as Josie Silver gives us two broken and flawed characters, Cleo and Mac, who are working on themselves. Cleo wants to love herself as she enters her 30s and Mac wants to be a better dad to his boys and find what he can do to get back with his separated wife. These two are thrown into living together (accidental double booking) and it’s the perfect enemies (fighting over the cabin) to lovers.
❤️THE REBOUND THOUGHTS ❤️
Who doesn’t love a childhood friend turned into an absolute smoke show?? When Abby returns to her hometown after losing her job and her fiancé breaking off their engagement she gets a ride back to her childhood home with this ridiculously handsome man, who turns out to be her childhood friend Luke. How the rest unfolds is a up and down rollercoaster ride of emotions for both of our main characters!
RATING FOR BOTH- ❤️❤️❤️❤️
3.5 ⭐️ (rounded up because Irish men are 🔥)
I was absolutely hooked from page one. Ireland + Bridget Jones-esque hot mess girl?! I’m there! The chemistry between Abby & Luke is awesome. I could hear their accents in my mind and I couldn’t get enough of him simply saying “Abby” in a warning tone to make her stop rambling. Major heart eyes! Having said that- Abby annoyed the crud out of me. As is true with a lot of books I’ve read recently, everything could have been avoided with an honest conversation. A text. Come on! I hit a wall in the middle where I almost stopped reading. She was that annoying to me. All her issues were so immature and full of self doubt which didn’t match up to her playful brazenness with Luke. I just couldn’t relate. BUT, then some old friends came into the picture (Rory et. all) and the book picked up again. Sadly, the book ending was expected and not what I wanted to read. But that’s me just being extra picky I suppose?! Who would want to ever leave Ireland?! Craziness.
Finding herself stuck waiting for a bus back to her hometown, Abby can't believe the news that the bus only runs on a Wednesday. Lucky for her a handsome stranger offers to drive her as he is headed in the same direction. With fourteen hours of travelling under her belt, she is both keen and reluctant to get to her sister's house. Having lost her job, savings, investments and home when the financial company she worked for filed for bankruptcy. Not to mention her engagement to Tyler being broken off just weeks before everything happened with her job.
Flirting with the stranger she relaxes into the journey and reluctantly heads into her sister's house for the third degree and why she is late, her job, life etc. However, when the neighbours pop round for dinner the next day, the ones she grew up with as they were friends of her parents. She is in for a shock when it suddenly clicks that the handsome stranger is their son Luke, who she used to play with as a child - but he has changed somewhat since then. Flirting continues until her sister mentions Abby's fiance who she has told anyone that they have broken up with and Luke backs away.
Their paths crossed around the quaint Irish town, friendships overlapping and their feelings charging. Abby needs to come clean about Tyler to everyone but when she learns that someone else jas their heart set on Luke it is time for her to back away. Can they evet work things out between then? But being home is a short term solution, so this can only ever be a rebound thing - right?
Definitely will recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book to read. Well done, Ms. Walsh, will definitely purchase! Full review linked!
Slow burn romantic comedy with lots of feel good moments.
Abby seemed to have it all.... until she didn't. A top job and apartment in New York and a rich fiance. All of which she lost in a matter of weeks.
We meet her with her tail between her legs returning home to her childhood town in Ireland.
Abby was a really likeable character, you were rooting for her to pick herself up and find happiness. The relationships she had with the other characters really made the story. Mending bridges with her sister, meeting Beth & holding onto Jess. And of course loveable Luke.
This was a real ferl-good story.
Highly recommend.
I loved this book! The setting, characters, and pacing were spot on. A wonderful Romance! I want to read more by Walsh.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read The Rebound early.
This book is so perfect for Valentine’s Day time. It’s lighthearted, fun and enjoyable romance. I’ve never read this author, but I will definitely go back and read One Night Only.. If you are looking for a book that will make your heart happy, this will definitely be a winner!
It was a very nice read, with a cool plot. Not groundbreaking but I wasn’t expecting that from this book. The characters were enjoyable and overall it made me feel good which is what I’m mainly looking for while reading this kind of book.
One of the best Rom-Coms I've read in a while! Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and lovers of contemporary romance with a good sprinkle of funny thrown in.
The main character, Abby, was perfectly imperfect and super relatable. And besides the romantic relationship with Luke, which was full of misunderstandings, fun banter, hurt feelings, eye-opening realizations, hot chemistry and super sweet moments, I also very much loved the developed relationships between Abby and her somewhat estranged older sister, Louise, and free-spirited, over-eager ray of sunshine, new BFF, Beth.
The romance side of the book was phenomenal (Luke was great and I like a couple that has to face some turbulence before getting their HEA), but the thing that made this book all the better for me was Abby's own journey. She definitely went though some huge emotional growing up throughout the book, and each of her relationships to the other characters contributed in that journey. She learned to open up, not judge others so harshly, and above everything else, to go easier and be kinder to herself. And I thought that was a fantastic message. Pushing yourself and striving for greatness is all well and good, but sometimes we need to slow down a little.
I honestly can't praise this book enough and very much look forward to reading more from Ms. Catherine..I think she has a brilliant future ahead of her, and am definitely gonna be checking out her other novel and any other future work she publishes!

I enjoyed this book; the characters, the plot and especially the ending (there was no shocking twist, it just ended differently than I had expected and I was quite pleased with that). It was nice to see Abby’s character growth as the plot progressed and I’m glad miscommunication wasn’t the main plot point of the book. Luke was charming and I enjoyed the banter between him and Abby. The secondary characters were great and Abby’s relationship with her sister was almost better than the romance. Overall, this is a solid book for those looking for a nice contemporary romance about coming home, love, and life. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
