Have fun in drawing little things
Designer, illustrator and author Kristine A. Lombardi presents her book "Paint Every Little Thing. Paint all your favorite things in watercolor, gouache, ink, and more!" which was published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster, Walter Foster Publishing. Lombardi states in the introduction - and this can be seen as the goal of the book: "First, I want you to think of this book as a launchpad for challenging yourself to try new things. There are guided projects throughout this book to transpose: show the process and technique, but feel free to spin off in your own direction. I highly recommend experimenting and using different art supplies. Don’t be afraid to add your own personal touch. Whether you are just starting on your art-making journey or have more experience creating, there are always new things to try that can push both your skills and style! (p. 4)" Her approach is also unique and states: "Something fun to explore in this book is what I’m calling “Nine Different Ways,” in which I’ve taken a subject and rendered it in various art mediums, angles, lines, and so on... (p. 5). She tells the artists to "have fun" but also where they can find their inspiration.
After covering the topics of "Tools & Materials" and "Techniques and Color Mixing" she presents her examples under the titles of "Culinary Curiosity," "The Jetsetter," "Haute Home Décor," "Feelin' Outdoorsy," and "Fashion-Forward" in multiple steps, tips included. She also included information such as "Must-Have Brushes" and "My Favorite Painting Techniques."
The drawings are whimsical, funny and inspirational. The book challenges readers to get their art supplies out and get creative themselves. I highly recommend this book for beginners and for advanced artists who might need new inspiration.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

After reading this book from cover to cover, I was so impressed with how every day items could be painted so whimsically and beautifully. My favorite page was probably the designs on the mugs. As with any art book, practice is key and I appreciate this book because painting every little thing helps create those large masterpieces. This book gave step by step instruction to make these paintings achievable. Would definitely recommend.

3.5 stars

This is a handy guide for painting everyday objects & scenes with gouache, watercolor, & colored pencil accents. It’s accessible for a beginner, but has a great variety of examples & projects.

[What I liked:]

•At the beginning is some helpful info on using paper & paint types, on how to use different brushes, color theory, etc.

•I really like the style of this art! It’s colorful, whimsical, & has a nice variety of subjects: food, furniture, landscapes, clothing, plants, etc.

•The step-by-step how-to guides are clear to follow, & really show how to start from a background & simple foundation shapes & layer up with details.

[What I didn’t like as much:]

•I would gave appreciated more insights on how to build up the elements/objects into a scene or landscape composition. The book shows examples of scenes incorporating multiple objects, but not really how to arrange them.

[I received an ARC ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you for the book!]

This book isn't exactly what I expected from the title (I was expecting a book about how to paint on various different surfaces, etc) but it was still super interesting! To be honest, it was super hard to read this book on my device because the formatting of the file was messed up, but I loved what I could see. As an artist myself, this book is very useful. I genuinely want to purchase a physical copy of it for myself! I can see it being loved by many artists and creatives. One of the best creative books I've seen!

Paint Every Little Thing is cheery and colorful. It is not a book of intimidating, involved artistic techniques. The projects are on the simplistic side, making it suitable for readers/artists of basic levels.

This is a fun little book about how to paint. There are a TON of illustrations and instructions of how to paint pictures of all kinds of items. If you like to paint and are looking for things to paint, then you should pick this book up!

This book is a great way to kickstart ideas. Kristine encourages the reader to look into everyday objects for inspiration. These include food, decor, clothing, or even furniture. The reader is encouraged to explore various tools for painting, whether it is watercolor, gouache, color pencils, or even walnut ink. This book is good if you like to explore, but if you need more direction and specific details, this is not the book for you.

Thank you to Kristine, the publisher, and NetGalley for this advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is a delightful book. I misinterpreted the title and thought it was about painting on things to transform them but it's a how-to book of how to paint depictions of lots of objects like plants, lipstick, dishes and couches. I would not say it shows how to paint every little thing (how could it?) but lots of objects are shown here.

The beginning section has a very helpful guide to finding inspiration, what materials to use, color theory and more. The entire book is filled with color and fun, and the art style is whimsical and fairly easy to replicate. Step by step illustrations show you how to copy her work, and it's easy enough that kids or adults could do it. She reminds the reader often that you don't need perfection and it doesn't have to look like the object or like hers.

This is one of my favorite recent art instruction books. I'm not sure I would have picked the same things that Lombardi chose, but it was so much fun and the colors and styles are infectious. A lovely book. Four stars for "really liked it."

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

4 Stars! Nice step by step book for beginners starting to work with watercolors, gauche and ink. Great book for inspiration and tips. I’d definitely go back to this book as a reference. This book has some good information on color mixing and the color wheel along with tools and painting techniques.
*I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*

Paint Every Little Thing is a wonderfully inspiring and colourful book for any amateur artist or creative journaler. It is not really for a complete beginner as there are no step by step instructions, just have a go ideas and examples. There are all sorts of things in the book, and often a number of different ways and styles are given for painting the same thing. It is bursting with colour and will have you running for your paintbox. A joyful book that would make a lovely gift for the artistically minded.

What a super little book!

Packed with ideas for painting - it's so cheerful, colourful and inspiring for a beginner, like myself!

I really loved the tools and materials, techniques and tips being included in such a simple but vibrant way - just lovely!! Something I will refer back to, time and time again.

Thanks so much Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster, Walter Foster Publishing, via NetGalley for gifting me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a beautiful book!

While certainly not for beginners this book is a helpful guide to painting various things. The collection feels a bit random, but includes things like mirrors, purses, mugs, and more. Lombardi walks through painting various objects and has different sections of "nine different ways" showing the same outline, such as a purse or mug, with nine different patterns you can use.

The step-by-step guide is helpful. There's a lot of interesting items included in this book. Overall a nice find!

This is a beautifully presented book that somehow inspires even those of us who don't consider ourselves artistically gifted to pick up a paintbrush!

I love the step by step approach that makes the finished image seem more attainable and also how contemporary the paintings are.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book and look forward to trying this approach for myself.

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

Brief intro to water-colour and gauche.
The artist shows a whimsical style that can be incorporated into journaling or creating an artsy piece for your wall. I loved the teacups and mugs-9-different-ways. So chic.
There are ideas for international street scenes, how to create a cute couch, and all in all this book really inspires the reader to truly ‘paint every little thing’. Lets get painting.
