Even the short stories in Melinda Leigh's Bree Taggert series have enough thriller to keep her fans happy. The Bree Taggert series is one of my favorites, with the detective always ready to face her demons and help those who most need her. As her investigation into a death starts on a low note, she will discover that it's not just a murder, it's also a missing child case that will take all of skills to solve.

A great short story that introduces you to the two main characters. Two badass women who know how to handle criminals and take them down.
Wish I had the first and second book to read but I missed those so will start on 3.

'Her Second Death' by Melinda Leigh is a prequel to the Bree Taggert series and is a great place to start.

Bree Taggert is working with her new partner, Dana Romano in the death of a man shot in the head. It soon turns into a hunt for a child though when the pair discover his daughter was in the car with him. This mirrors the traumatic childhood of Bree Taggert and brings the case a bit too close to home.

The characters are well described and visual.

This is a story with lots of twists and turns that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

If you have not read any of this series it is a great place to start as an introduction and it will not disappoint.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley in allowing me to reda in return for a review.

I enjoyed this short story of Bree Taggert from when she was a new homicide detective in Philly and newly partnered up with a tough but good 21-year veteran, Detective Ramano. They catch a case of a corpse found behind the wheel of his car. Possibly a drug deal went bad. When Bree and Ramano go to notify the wife she informs them that their five-year-old daughter was with her dad. There was no sign of a child in the car just an empty car seat. Bree must fight the flashbacks to her childhood horrors on this case and find this child.
I read this none sitting it was that good and quick. It has lots of action and keeps your interest. I like reading about Bree, I've read all of her stories. Melinda Leigh never disappoints. Thank you for the eARC, NetGalley, Amazon original stories, and Melinda Leigh. I highly recommend this book.

This is a prequel to the Bree Taggert series and is marked 0.5 It explains how Bree and her partner Dana Romano met and started their working relationship. It is well worth the read to clear up a few questions. A man is found dead from a gunshot in his car and his young daughter is missing. The location looks like a drug deal gone wrong but where is the daughter. A few nice twists and turns. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a great prequel novella that explains a little more history to the friendship between Bree and her friend Dana. Even though it was a short book, it still had an element of suspense and mystery to it as well as some emotion as a missing child brings back traumatic memories for Bree and her own childhood. Overall, a great quick read that ties along nicely with the other books in the series.

This was a quick story but had a pretty good and unexpected twist. This one gives you an insight into Bree and Dana’s partnership in its earliest days. Melinda Leigh is a solid story teller and its impressive the depth of a story she can fit into such a small number of pages.
