An innocent trip to the book store propels Lady Harriett Beresford into danger when a stranger grabs her book and warns of peril from the Fat Man before collapsing at her feet with an arrow in his back. She rushes to find aid, and when she returns, the dead man is gone, and no one believes her account of the fallen book thief. Alex Muir, Baron Rockingham, has been charged by the Earl of Devere, his closest friend, to watch out for his sister while he’s away on his wedding trip. When Alex stops by to check on Harriett and she explains her predicament, he’s skeptical. His friend’s exuberant little sister has always had a flair for the dramatic. But when she later turns to him following a harrowing attempt on her life, his doubts are put to rest. She has been telling the truth all along, and he now knows her life is in peril. His protective instincts kick in. He cannot allow her to return to her home. She must stay with him so he can guard over her at all times. Together, they seek the identity of the Fat Man, and in doing so, they learn of a plot against the regent. As important as it is to Alex to protect the regent, it’s even more important that he keep Harriett safe. Spending so many hours a day with her, Alex comes to realise Devere’s youngest sister is no longer a girl.
Harriett is the third Beresford sibling to find love, this book is easily read on its own. I loved the feisty Harriett & the aloof upright Alex & found this to be a delightful read. I also loved that Harriett is forced to take matters into her own hands. The chemistry between the pair certainly hots up throughout the novel. As well as a charming romance there is the mystery surrounding the Fat Man, who can the pair trust & will they be able to foil the plot. An engrossing which I devoured in an afternoon
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

With A Little Help From My Lord by Cheryl Bolen
This story starts with Lady Harriett and she's staying at a relatives house as her brother had gotten married to his sweetheart and they are away on their honeymoon.
She is able to go about on her own, especially to the library a block away from the house. She finds a book of poems and gets it as a man follows her and calls her by name.
Problem is she had not seen what he had done at the library and an arrow pierces his back and he is able to warn her of a few things.
She dashes into the house and alerts servants and five minutes later when they appear on the front porch the man is gone, all traces of him ever being there.
Others do not stay alert and she doesn't understand why it even happened. She knows her book is gone though...
That night later she is kidnapped and thrown into a coach and she gets her wits back she is able to escape the coach and knows her surroundings.
She heads to the House and knows that Alex her brothers best friend will watch out for her.
Harriett is able to stay in control of the situations and prays for calm solutions.
She is bloodied and a mess when she enters. He is there to tend to her and she gives him the details of what had happened that day.
He has taken matters into his own hands and will keep her safe.
Others are not known of her whereabouts and attempt to startle the relatives...
She has spent days with him and knows who she wants to marry. She will have to convince him.
The Lords gather and listen to her story and they have a solution.
Deadly entrapment, mystery, suspense, kidnappings, torture, politics, travel, very detailed descriptions and food.
Never saw this book ending as it did, I feared for the worse.
Explicit descriptions of relations on wedding night.

"With a Little Help from my Lord" by Cheryl Bolen
A FUN Sweet Clean Regency Romp
I loved this story. It was definitely something different. It was a very entertaining read and even though I now know the ending of this story… it will be on my list of books to read again. There was one point in the story that I got a bit antsy … I am not sure if it was the story got slow or if I was just too tired to stay engaged. (I took a nap and all was well!).
Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: I received an ARC of this story from the publisher.

Alex Muir, Baron Rockingham, has promised to look after his best friend's sister while his friend is away on his honeymoon. Alex has known Lady Harriett most of her life and can't imagine it would be an imposition to check on the young lady, that is, until Harriett is accosted on her front steps. The man had demanded the book she just bought and before he could say anything else, he's murdered with an arrow to the back. Now Alex finds himself knee deep in a murder mystery. Lady Harriett did not recognize the man who died on her steps, but welcomes Alex's help to keep her safe. Can Harriett convince Alex that she is a grown woman and not the little girl he used to know?

The premise of this book sounded so good and the first chapter starts off with a bang, but it soon devolves into a silly story with Harriett acting very immaturely especially when Alex tells her she must not leave the house until they find out who is trying to kill her. I didn't like Harriett all that much and poor Alex was just trying to be noble, but Harriett keeps tempting him. Finding who's behind the murder has now fallen to the Home Office and they come up with a plan to catch the mastermind, but once again, it's ridiculous that they would only deploy soldiers to watch the front of the house. I did finish the book, but by the end I didn't care about either of them.

When The Earl of Devere is going to the country on his honeymoon, he entrusts the care of his sister Harriett to Alex, Baron Rockingham.
Harriett goes to Hookhams Circulating Library to borrow a book. She selects the book Cowper, and is told by a man that had just put a letter in the book that she didn't want that one. She takes the book, and he follows her home. As he grabs the book he is shot in the back with an arrow. He tells her "Do not trust the fat man" followed by "Kill. The regent." No one believes her at first, as when she goes back with the servants he is gone. When 2 men abduct her from the garden at her great-aunt's home, she escapes and Alex knows he has to protect her. He takes he to his home and hides her, since he doesn't want anyone to know where she is. The twists and turns of this story made it thoroughly enjoyable. It is a great read.

Cheryl Bolen has become one of my favorite writers with only a few books, but I struggled to complete With a Little Help from my Lord. It did not seem like a relationship grew between Harriett and Alex before she has decided she is in love and they will marry. Alex seemed frustrated with Harriett as he is trying to protect her and she does whatever comes to mind – going home during the middle of the night to get her cat, letting cat out of her room during a dinner party, letting dinner guests see her when she is supposed to be hiding, telling him they are going to marry, offering to let him seduce her since they are going to marry anyway, staring at him while he sleeps, writing her brother to get permission to marry Alex. Alex did not know all of these events, yet Harriett does not seem to think things through before implementing her ideas and/or schemes. Not your typical strong, intelligent heroine. No wonder Alex, too, thinks she is mad.

Ms. Bolen’s previous characters/books have intelligent, loving, caring and intriguing. About two-thirds through the book, I lost interest in the man who was shot with an arrow on Harriett’s doorstep. I am not going to give up on Ms. Bolen, hoping this is just an unusual idea for a romance.

I usually really enjoy Cheryl Bolen books, but I had trouble getting through this one. There was just something about the characters that really annoyed me. Harriett is whiny and if she doesn't get her way she annoys and complains until she does. Alex is suppose to be smart and prominent in Parliament, doesn't even know what a cat purr is. I am sure there are people who will enjoy this book, but unfortunately I am not one of them.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Suspenseful and unpredictable, it is fortunate that Lady Harriett's brother had already asked Alex Muir, Baron Rockingham to keep an eye on his sister whilst he is out of town, as no sooner had her brother departed than Harriet found herself in the startling situation of a man dropping dead at her feet. The circumstances are so bizarre that no one really believes her when she calls for help. However, when an attempted abduction goes wrong, Alex quickly comes to the realization that he has to protect Harriett with his life. As the case comes together the parties involves come to the conclusion that the matter is far more serious than they thought, but when Harriett offers herself as the decoy Alex finds his sensibilities severely taxed. A romance brews between the main characters from the beginning but the little sister of his best friend is definitely out of bounds, thus Harriett has to take matters into her own hands. Fortunately, the novel comes to a good conclusion with justice being served and Harriett receiving the gift of a lifetime. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishers and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Lady Harriett Beresford only nipped around the corner for a book. That ends up putting her in terrible danger. Luckily for her her brother's bestfriend has agreed to look after her.

Alex Muir, Baron Rockingham is very busy in Parliament but he will always make time to help his bestfriend. Little does he know how much that will change his life.

This is an unusual historical romance with fabulous characters. Danger can bring heightened emotions. A very proper and honourable man, an intelligent and brave young woman need to survive and stop an assassin.

Very good fun, I loved it.

Though often impetuous, Harriet really did have nothing to do with a man dying on her front stoop. She turns to her staid brother’s best friend Alex for help. Together they must solve the mystery and in doing so fall in love. I found Harriet to be a bit annoyingly naive at times. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
