I loved the new Bree Taggert book! It really delved into her personal life and I love how her relationship with Matt was explored more. The intertwining mysteries seems to be a theme recently but it worked really well, with the suspense and tension at an all time high. So glad I got an ARC because this book is worth it. I recommend to anyone who likes mystery, suspense, thrillers with a tiny bit of romance.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Montlake for the free eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Another winner by Ms. Leigh. Love this author and have read all her books before this one. I can’t get enough of these books. Love Bree and Matt. I will also buy a copy to give away. I own them all. I highly recommend this book, and all before it.
Also if you haven’t read the Morgan Dane books read them too.

Thank you Montlake for providing me a early copy of this book.

Since I absolutely loved the first four books in the Bree Taggert series, I was so excited for Dead Against Her.

It was great to be back with Matt and Bree for another really interesting and solid case. I was entertained from the very beginning and Dead Against Her kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. Sure, I had other things to do. But this story had other plans for me and I simply couldn’t stop reading. I kept telling myself “one last chapter” until there were no chapters left to read at all.

I’m still a very big fan of Matt and Bree. I just love how great of a team they make. They’re lovable and smart characters to follow, and they complement each other pretty well. Also, honorable mention to Todd. I just love this man.

Overall, Melinda Leigh did an amazing job with Dead Against Her. It’s easy to get lost into the story/the case thanks to her simple yet efficient writing style. I loved every page of this fifth book in the Bree Taggert series and I’m so excited to read the next one, Lie To Her (Jan. 2023).

I enjoy reading Melinda Leigh books. She has a nice writing style and creates interesting characters. Even though Dead Against Her is part of a series, I feel it can be read as a standalone. However, I would recommend reading from the beginning because Bree Taggert is such an interesting character and all the things she goes through.

The story is fast-paced, with a lot of good twists. The ending was satisfying, and the story overall is a great addition to the series. I would recommend this series and this author.

Melinda Leigh never disappoints. I love her romantic suspense novels. She weaves together what often seem like separate storylines to become one, without seeming effort. I love her characters, even the baddies, just because they’re so believable.

The main character, Sheriff Bree Taggert, is investigating the double murder of the former sheriff, who retired in disgrace, and his mother. There are several possible explanations, but finding the murderer is made difficult by the fact that most of the suspects are lying or hiding something. And of course, Oscar was neither a good man nor a policeman, so the list of people who wished him badly goes on and on.

I hadn't read any of the previous books in this series, but that wasn't a problem at all. Although there are a lot of characters in this story who share some complicated relations, I found out who's who very quickly. So you can safely read this book without knowing the previous ones.

I found Bree a fully formed and multi-dimensional character even though it was my first encounter with her. About her past and her current, unusual family situation, I know just enough to be interested, while wanting to read previous books and learn more. Bree is a strong woman who in this book, in addition to investigating the murder of her predecessor, has to deal with false accusations that are extremely harmful to the woman. I well understood Bree's frustration at this situation.

The book is fast-paced and has some interesting twists. Unjust accusations and an attempt to ruin Bree's reputation raise the stakes and add an additional, very interesting plotline. They also make it easier to feel a bond with the main character who has to deal with this difficult situation.

I've had an eye on this series for a while and am now even more encouraged to go back and read earlier books about Bree.

I really like the team Bree has around her, Matt, Todd, Collins, Dana, Marge I have not read any of the Morgan Dane books, but enjoyed meeting her in this book so much that I will put that series on my list to read. Dead Against Her is a great 5th installment in the Bree Taggert series. Leigh did a great job.. It was a page turner. Kept you guessing on who did it. Plus, seeing Bree continue to grow and learn with her personal life. Definitely recommend this book!

Leigh always has a fresh new mystery for us and this one was no exception. What a great story! I enjoy the dynamics between Bree and her family, as well as Bree and Matt, and her settling in with her position as sheriff and bringing on new officers to replace corrupt ones. I look forward to the next case that Bree investigates.

Melinda Leigh has done it again. Bree Taggart finds a double homicide at a local farm. One victim is the elderly woman who owns the farm. The other victim is an ex-deputy, Eugene Oscar. Eugene had taken retirement rather than being fired by Bree. As Bree and her boyfriend, Investigator Matt Flynn, discover, there are many people who would like to have hurt Eugene. But who would want to kill his mother? In addition to solving a double murder, Bree is being targeted by an on-line smear campaign with includes supposed naked pictures of Bree. And, to top it off her chief deputy, Todd, goes missing. Morgan Dane and Lance Kruger also make an appearance in the story. Dead Against Her is an engrossing read. Some of the issues were not completely resolved so I’m hoping there is more about it in the next book.

Part of a series featuring Bree Taggert. Another set of murders to solve ,a missing deputy and a lot of twists and turns. Another great story.

When the mutilated bodies of a mother and her ex-deputy son are found in the woman’s home, Sheriff Bree Taggert is called to investigate the murders.

Bree is reminded of her own family’s murder/suicide when she was a child and has to fight to set her feelings aside in order to do her job- made more difficult by her tumultuous past with one of the victims.

Deputy Eugene Oscar caused her nothing but misery when she took over from the previous corrupt sheriff until she let him go. Now he’s dead and the pressure is on her to find the killers with a conflict-of-interest threat hanging over her head. Adding to the stress, someone is trying to dirty her image by distributing fake deep web photos and videos of Bree in sexual poses. It’s upsetting and demeaning, but she’s determined to ignore it and work on her investigation until a threat to her life amps up the stakes.

This is a fast-paced drama with plenty of red herrings. I didn’t guess who was behind the murders until the last few chapters- I love when that happens!

“I voluntarily read an ARC of this book which was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.”

This book was pretty good, it was a bit slow in the beginning with what felt like too many details. but overall it was a fast read and a decent story A sheriff deals with a double homicide, threats against her and family issues

Bree is back and she has become the target of a smear campaign to ruin her reputation and scare her family. This is in addition the to the nightmare of finding an elderly lady and her son excuted in their home. After her Chief Deputy is kidnapped, she will stop at nothing to save his life and bring the killer to justice.
This is a great series with many twists and turns to keep me guessing. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series to see the continuing developments in Bree's personal life.
Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Publishing for providing a copy of this book for review.

I was expecting this to be a bulk standard detective book, but by the end I really cared about the characters (even if they seemed to sweat a lot😂)
I hope there are more books in this series.

Dead Against Her was maybe one of the most intense of the Bree Taggert books to date. It starts out with a double homicide of a mother and son who just happens to be an officer that Bree had recently forced out of the department. As she and her crew and Matt start investigating they learn someone is out to sabotage Bree but why? It was awesome having Morgan Dane pop back in for a bit. Outstanding read with some close calls and thrills and chills! Thank you Melinda and Netgalley for the ARC! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've read this series before, and I have to admit this wasn't my favorite. Love the characters and the world as always. But it just didn't hook me in as the other's before had!

Will still continue with this series!

Called to an isolated farm to check on an elderly widow, Sheriff Bree Taggert finds a brutal double homicide. One of the victims is Eugene Oscar, the bitter and corrupt former deputy she recently forced out of the department. There's nothing worse than being able to figure out the ending of a thriller, and this one kept me guessing!
