Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Enjoying Bourbon by Frank Flannery. I did enjoy learning about the history of bourbon and how it is made. I used the information I learned from the book to take a short Bourbon tour in Kentucky recently! Now it’s time to try the recipes.
Thank you so much Netgalley for the advance reader's copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoying Bourbon is a great book for anyone who loves Bourbon. Or is interested in learning more about the history of Bourbon.
Great introduction on all things related to Bourbon, including the history, how it's made, different types, and how to taste it, Well illustrated with many side bars on various related topics.
Great resource to learn more about the American spirt,, bourbon. The tasting sheets in the second half of the book is very helpful, especially if you come across the print edition of the book.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I loved learning about bourbon and how to enjoy it. Definitely, anyone who enjoys drinking bourbon will love this book and will love learning more things about this drink, from the history of it to how it is made and to reading the label and how to taste it. I, surely, want this book along the one about rum in my own library.

This is a quick, brief guide on all things bourbon, from its history to the distilling process to the most well known brands to the actual tasting. Readers also have the ability to record tasting notes in the back of the guide.
I appreciated the compact layout of the book, with the basic information needed to become a more informed bourbon enthusiast. The drink recipes included also sound very good. I think this is a perfect gift for anyone who wishes to start tasting and studying bourbon and wishes to have a better understanding of the variety of taste notes one can find in a drink.
This book would make a great gift for the bourbon drinker in your life, along with a bottle.
The book tells the history of bourbon, the making of bourbon, how to read a label, how to taste, famous bourbon and bourbon cocktails. The second half of the book is very much like a journal for the reader to record their tasting notes. My only complaint is that this takes up too much of the book.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.
A detailed book on Bourbon from its history to how it is made and who makes it. There are plenty of photographs to accompany its history, along with old advertising images.
The book provides details on some of the famous bourbon drinks you can purchase in the shops (Jim Beam, Wild Turkey are two I recognize in the UK) along with 6 simple cocktail recipes, with a photograph alongside each one. There are also many many pages for you to put your own tasting notes in each time you try a new bourbon.
I certainly learn much about bourbon and found it useful and am now able to understand the labels.
I would have liked more cocktail recipes in the book to try and perhaps fewer tasting note pages.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
Perfect for anyone who enjoys Bourbon, this book includes a short history, how bourbon is made, cocktail ideas, what to consider when tasting, and a guide sheet to complete after each tasting. It has plenty of photos to illustrate it too. Thank you to Frank Flannery, Net Galley and Quarto for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the perfect book for anyone who enjoys bourbon, doesn’t know anything about it, but wants to! It includes the history, making and flavors of bourbon, and also includes tips for tasting and recipes for popular cocktails. The perfect gift for any bourbon fan!
As a relatively new fan of bourbon I found this to be a fascinating history and dive into the world of bourbon. I learned so much and this is worthwhile read for those interested in this American elixir
Thank you to Quarto for the ARC to read and review.
This is a really “neat”. Ha ha. Little book. First part is a quick history and guide to reading and tasting bourbon. Then lots of journal pages to review your tasting journey. What a great gift for anyone who loves bourbon or who plans to travel to Kentucky to ride the Bourbon trail.
Excellent little book.
This is a good little reference guide for someone interested in learning more about bourbon. It begins with a brief history of the business then moves on to how to read the labels. Recipes are also included for some classic cocktails. The rest of the book leans mainly toward tastings, including tasting notes, differences in color, etc. The back of the book is a journal for you to record your bourbon tastings. I think this would make a great gift to go along with a good bottle or maybe a trip to the Bardstown Kentucky area to experience the Bourbon Trail.
Just like the rum book this was brilliant; it would make a great present with a bottle as well!
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Terrific gift for the bourbon drinker in your life! This book tells the history of bourbon and lots of different information even a bourbon drinker may not know. The last part of the book is a journal so you can keep track of what you enjoyed about different bourbons.
Enjoying Bourbon provides an in-depth look at the origins and production of bourbon. The differences between bourbon notes and flavors and how to recognize what you are tasting is presented in a clear and easy-to-understand way. A handful of bourbon recipes are included, but I would've liked to see more. The last 2/3 of the book is composed of activity sheets to use to analyze bourbons based on the presented criteria so that you will have your own bourbon reference guide.
Thanks NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I once drove to 4 different liquor stores to find a specific bottle of Bourbon. That was back in May and I have yet to open it. I'm not much of a drinker and I can appreciate a nice bottle.
After having read Frank Flannery's two glorious books this one and (Enjoying Rum).
I want to fully appreciate the next sip of both of these.
Enjoying Bourbon much like the Enjoying Rum gives you a great insight into the history and making of this drink.
I really enjoyed the writing on these it felt like I was having a conversation with someone.
Like wine tasting only more relaxing.
Learning about glassware was also very fascinating to me.
The recipes are something that I really want to try and this one much like the other has the "Tasting Notes" that I cant wait to put to good use!
So I will be adding this to the cookbook shelf because it's honestly such a great addition.
& would make a wonderful Christmas gift!
Enjoying Bourbon is a must have for anyone who loves hearing about the history of bourbon or for anyone who loves to try new bourbon. I enjoy both of these, and therefore, this book is perfect for me! I love the bit of history at the beginning of the book, and also the tasting note pages where you can actually fill in information about bourbon you try and keep track of which ones are your favorites all in this well-made, compact little book. It would make a superb gift, and it will look really nice on my bourbon shelf, next to some of my favorite bottles.
