I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Sweet Talk Cookies is a great, colourful guide book on how to upgrade your cookie and biscuit decorating to another level. I thought this book would be for all level of skills but it does seem to point more towards the more experienced cookie decorator.
I found the book had great information on many topics such as glazes, icing, colour mixing, tools, stencils and letting as well as many different recipes. Each design is broken down into easy to follow steps and the variety of designs in this book is phenomenal! I highly recommend this for any experienced cookie bakers and decorators to use as they would love it.
This is more of a coffee table book or a guide for VERY experienced bakers/decorators. I can’t see myself ever having steady enough hands to finish any of the designs in the book.
What I did like and find useful though was the general information and techniques about baking and making icing found in the introduction - they would be useful for anyone wanting to get adventurous int he kitchen.
And above all, I really loved the pictures.
Fancy decorated sugar cookies are all the rage right now. This book will help you create some lovely cookies at home for your own parties or to share with friends. Some are very detailed so if you have some artistic ability you will have no trouble, for some of us I'm glad there are some easier designs. There are diagrams that show you how to blend you colors in the piping bag so you can make unicorn designs, because unicorns are all the rage right now. Hayley includes recipes for her cookies and the icing so you will have everything you need to get started.
I will never make any of these cookies but they look amazing and like they would taste great! I loved looking through this book.
Five Stars!
Real talk: This is definitely not a book for beginner cookiers. It’s meant for bakers with some knowledge and experience about decorations.
However: Each step and each technique is well-explained, so that anyone with the proper tools and some basic skills should be confident enough to give these decorations a try. The author includes recipes for cookies, icings, and glazes, tutorials on mixing colors and using proper tools, and even stencils for those of us whose lettering may not be quite up to snuff. The only downside to this book is that there are so many cute designs in this book, it's difficult to choose a favorite… so I’m going to have to buy a lot of new cookie cutters! I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in learning to step up their cookie decorating game. I really enjoyed this book and found it very inspirational -- my Christmas cookies are gonna be aMAZing this year.
I am so grateful to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Harvard Common Press for the opportunity to read and review Sweet Talk Cookies.

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
This is a gorgeous, though somewhat aspirational cookie decorating cookbook. I'm always looking for cookbooks with teen appeal, and this one fits the bill -- it's fresh, colorful, and fun.
This is such a fun book with recipes for different cookies and icings, and instructions for and pictures of different cookie decorating technique! A great book for any aspiring baker!
Thank you to the publisher, author, and photographer/illustrators for a chance to read this book in exchange for honest feedback. This publisher consistently publishes really high-quality books, no doubt. I am really impressed with this cookie baking and decorating guide. The cover is very visually appealing, absolutely a shining strength for this book. To set it even further apart from its competition, this cookie book has some of the most adorable and unique cookies I've seen in a while. The designs are absolutely very cute and interesting, some of them are just begging to be emulated. I think the layout of the pages exemplifies the high quality production of this book as well. It looks expertly laid out, like with colored coordination, etc. The instructions for the different cookies have clear-cut step-by-step format. Whether or not I'd be able to make anything as cute as this, I can say that flipping through this guide makes me very happy and impressed. Loved it!
Sweet Talk Cookies is the perfect cookie book to help make your cookies come to life! I love that it is seasonal too! Cookie decorating is a year round sport!
I love this book, I mean seriously, your mouth actually starts watering more and more as you flip through the pages. So first off this is an absolute treat for your taste buds, and you can't wait to bite into that first beautiful cookie. And speaking of beautiful, that is exactly what these cookies are, so first, you have a wonderful treat for your taste buds, and secondly, you get an amazing delight for your eyes. The colors and the detail are incredibly gorgeous, so much so, that it seems like you looking at an exquisite piece of artwork. This is definitely a 5-star review. Happy reading, and even more importantly happy eating!

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. There is a wide variety of recipes and ideas in there, and useful tips on how to decorate and use different techniques
Ok, I’ve made sugar cookies with buttercream icing for years. The traditional styles. So, I was absolutely enticed by the Hayley’s challenge to break out of the traditional box and try something new. Beautiful, cute, creative cookie designs that have eluded me for years became plausible after reading this. It is an excellent how-to instruction manual as well as a creative wheelhouse. If you’re at all curious or hopeful to create your own bakery worthy cookies, get this book!!! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
Sweet Talk Cookies by Haley Callaway is the cookie book I’ve been waiting for. She gives great instructions from the basics to more advanced techniques with templates and reasons why things work or don’t work. The photographs are beautiful and helpful in showing how to accomplish her results. I haven’t tried any of the recipes yet, but did notice a small discrepancy in the amount of water listed in the Royal Icing recipe. I will be using this book a lot in the future.
Such a pretty book filled with many ideas for decorating sugar cookies! Thankfully not just the usual Christmas cookie but various other holidays/themes like Eggs & Bacon and even a Tie Dye shirt.
What I enjoyed most is the detailed steps provided for decorating, that just might give me the confidence to give one of these beautiful designs a try.
The author, Hayley Callaway (Hayley Cakes and Cookies) also included a few cookie and icing recipes, including her Glaze Icing recipe that after over 100,000 batches has perfected.
A cute, pretty book that would also look nice on any cookie lover's coffee table!
Sweet Talk Cookies was provided digitally via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I just might have to purchase a printed copy just for my cookbook collect!
What a fun book! Sweet Talk Cookies by bakery owner Hayley Callaway is the perfect cookbook for bakers who want to bake good cut out cookies and decorate them professionally. This excellent book shows readers in step-by-step photographs with easy-to-follow instructions all of the steps to decorate cookies. While this cookbook has a few recipes for cut out cookies (plain sugar, ginger, chocolate) and icing, the main focus of the book is creating innovative shapes and designs for every occasion and decorating them.
There are chapters on basics, as well as equipment needed, and techniques to make beautiful cookies. Then there are dozens of great designs and fun shapes. The Christmas chapter includes several cookies that Santa will love, as well as guests who visit during the season. Other holidays included are New Year’s, Easter, Halloween, and birthdays. There is a design for everyone here, and although Callaway’s instructions are great, most bakers will find that they need a bit of practice before their cookies are as perfect as hers. The techniques, once learned, can be applied to any shape of cookie needed for any occasion, so if you happen to be a cookie cutter collector, you can practice on your favorite cutouts.
This cookbook is perfect as a gift for a creative young baker, and it is a good addition to a comprehensive cookbook collection. Highly Recommended.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This cookie book is all you need if you want to learn how to decorate cookies like a pro for birthdays, holidays, gifts and more! The author explains in very thorough and simple terms the difference between royal icing and glaze and when and how to use them. She provides recipes for sugar cookies as well as gingerbread and a chocolate cut out cookies. She gives instruction on color mixing, stenciling, air brushing and writing as well as providing letter templates. This cookie book is amazing!
Thank you Netgalley, Quarto Publishing Group-Harvard Common Press and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This deliciously delightful book is a must-have for the inspired baker both young and old. With step-by-step guides on technique, great recipes and fantastic photos you will soon be baking up a storm of deliciousness.
From cute to modern, and simply fun there is no surprise why cookies are much loved for celebrations or just because. because they add a little magic to the table.
From the basics to advanced techniques even the not so good cook (putting my hand up here) could achieve scrumptious greatness.
