A fun quick easy read that will make swoon. No spice in this book, so perfect for readers who like romance but no spice.
This book is a cute rom com. The main character is a fixer, she comes in to make relationships better, usually for one person in the relationship. Her newest job gets her in trouble when it’s the highest money amount she’s ever been offered, but the person in need of fixing is her ex boyfriend/ best friend.
Very cute premise! Reminded me of good luck Chuck. Not sure why British rom coms are so adverse to steam/spice but it’s disappointing. Also, outside of this taking place in London it didn’t feel British at all. The language was very American. The romance didn’t build emotionally strong, but I liked the writing.
A heart fixer and career strategist who helps others find their happiness. Setting people up has been one of life's great gifts. This was funny and light-hearted.
There are many things to love about this book but........... the love interest is NOT one of them. I'm sorry, but he was an insufferable man. Alyssa & her friends were the stars of this book!!!!!!!!!!! This is the first romance where I didn't love the love interest, but it does not take away from the fact that this story is very enjoyable and cute.
If you like the millionaire matchmaker this might be your jam. Setting people up has been one of life's great gifts. This was funny and light-hearted.
The premise of this book is really cute. I loved the little romantic gestures and the theme of making mistakes and fixing them.
Cute strong romance. I always appreciate a strong female career woman who realizes love doesn’t need to make her less driven. Sometimes opposites can attract. Love the backdrop and a story where it’s finally the friend who gives so much a turn to indulge themselves. .
the pacing of this novel is fast, which i really enjoyed. i also loved the main character, aly, and thought that she was very realistic and relatable. she’s hardworking, but insecure, and i loved her relationship with her friends and their decision to start “fixer upper” - a business that “fixes” parts of a relationship that people don’t like. i felt bad for her throughout though, with her job and mom, plus what happens later with fixer upper.
This is a long overdue review.
There might be spoilers. Be aware.
I tried to read this book a while ago before it came out. I did not get to finish it. Recently, I went back and read it again and here is how I liked.
I liked the setup that Dylan was part of Aly’s assignment while they had back stories from childhood. It was like a life coach but secretly. The tension when they started to work together was fun. However, I wished there were more Dylan’s point of view or more emotional or romantic development between two main characters during the first half of the book.
As Aly started to be more true to herself and open up, things got very interesting and I couldn’t stop reading. In the end, they found the way to be brilliant.
This was a lighthearted British romcom featuring Aly, a heart fixer and career strategist who helps others find their happiness. When she discovers her new client is her childhood crush, Dylan, old feelings resurface amid their professional relationship. While the premise is somewhat far-fetched and reliant on misunderstandings, the banter between characters is enjoyable. Dylan's character development also felt a bit unrealistic. Despite its flaws, this debut delivers a sweet and feel-good romance that promises more to come from the author. Overall, it earns three stars for its charm and potential.
I found this to be such a fun, easy read. I loved the childhood friends turned enemies turned lovers trope. I was rooting for Aly the entire time, and I couldn't stop reading the book to find out what would happen next. I'm not a techie person, but it was so fun to see a strong female in that role that can often be dominated by men. I loved all of the banter between Aly and her friends and Dylan. This was a strong debut novel, and I can't wait to read everything else that this author writes.
Really fun page turner focusing on old friends reconnecting. It was light hearted and funny but could've gone for more on the romance.
Aly gave me major Olivia Pope vibes, except she is someone who focused on people's emotions rather than law and politics. I enjoyed the setting, and it was the perfect British romcom. I actually read this after the pub date - and partially on audio too - and I have to say, the audio version of this book is amazing too! Thank you to NetGalley for the arc e-book edition of the story. I am an instant fan of Lauren Forsythe!
This was a cute book. It had some serious parts but I liked the flow of it. I would read more books by this Author

This one was not for me. I didnt think aly and dylan had an chemistry and honestlh i hated him as an overall character. Over all this was not for me.

However, after a chance encounter with an ex who went from living in his parents' basement to being a married project manager in just three years, Aly realizes she's been fixing her boyfriends, too.

Forsythe skillfully navigates Aly's emotional journey, portraying her struggles and triumphs with authenticity and depth. As Aly learns to prioritize her own needs and desires, readers are taken on a heartwarming and relatable ride. One of the highlights of "The Fixer Upper" is the cast of characters that Aly encounters along the way. From her quirky best friend to the charming stranger who challenges her perspective, each character adds layers to Aly's story and brings the small town setting to life.
The romance in "The Fixer Upper" is sweet and satisfying, with Aly finding herself torn between her past and her newfound independence. Forsythe crafts a compelling love story that keeps readers guessing until the very end.
Overall, "The Fixer Upper" is a delightful read that combines romance, humor, and self-discovery. With its engaging characters and charming storyline, it's a perfect choice for anyone looking for a heartwarming escape.
"The Fixer Upper" by Lauren Forsythe is a delightful rom-com filled with wit and charm. Aly's journey from fixing her boyfriends to starting a professional service for women tired of emotional labor leads to hilarious and heartwarming escapades. With a clever plot twist involving an old flame, Forsythe delivers a refreshing take on love, self-discovery, and the true meaning of fixing relationships.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Aly's character resonated with me, as I empathize with her tendency to fix things and conform to others' expectations. It was empowering to see her assert herself and pursue her desires. Despite occasional stretches of implausibility, the story remained engaging and made for a delightful beach or summer read. The supporting characters were also a highlight for me.
I hate myself for taking so long to read this one. It was a great story!!
This is the perfect second chance romance without any steam. Best friends Aly and Dylan grew up together, went through some hardships in their teens and eventually lost contact. Aly’s coworkers realize that every single man Aly ever dated ends up becoming their best selves after they break up. Her friends/coworkers and her come up with a side hustle to help women mold their partners into what they need. They have a good thing going but hit it big with a super famous social media influencer, Nicki, reaches out for help.
Aly sees Dylan again, but this time she’s been hired by his social media influencer girlfriend to get Dylan to take his tech business seriously and to propose to her within 30 days! NO PROBLEM, if only he isn’t the love of her life and acted like they were complete strangers when he sees her again!
This book was fun! The commentary was hilarious and other than a few oddities, this book was paced so well making it super bingeable.
Perfect if you love:
-second chance romance
-childhood friends to lovers
-witty banter
-found family in friends
-personal growth
Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Group-Putnam, and the Author for this eARC!
