I really enjoyed this book!! I found Gus to be an interesting character and her development really kept me into the story. I don't like giving too much away about books but this one will keep you guessing until the end. I will definitely be picking up Tallo's first book now that I've read this one. Thanks for the advanced copy of this!
I was completely blown away by Katie Tallo’s debut novel Dark August! I remember thinking that it NEEDED to be made into a movie! Well to say I was ecstatic when I found out Katie had written a follow-up novel would be a complete understatement!!! Sooooo of course I devoured Poison Lilies in record time and right off the bat I need to say it was fan-freaking-tastic!
Katie Tallo has such a unique writing style! Like I said with Dark August, Poison Lilies plays out like a movie in my mind because Katie is such a talented storyteller! The twists and turns are perfectly placed and the pace is lightening fast. The story will captivate you and consume your non-reading thoughts as well! Poison Lilies is a 5 star read that will have you staying up way past your bedtime! A true must read!
I love Gus and am so glad to see her back! What an adventure. I will say I got a little confusing with some of the characters and their connections and all of the drama at the end but overall it was a good story!
Poison Lilies, the sequel to Dark August, finds Gus Monet trying to find stability in her life after solving her mother's murder. She moves to an apartment building and strikes up a friendship with her neighbor upstair, an older woman named Poppy Honeywell. She learns that Poppy is a member of the Mutchmore family, a rich and powerful group of people whose influence runs deep in the town. When the police find a body in a park near the apartment it seems like a tragic accident until Poppy says she knows who the body could be. This sparks the slow burn mystery that puts Gus and Poppy in grave danger. One of the aspects of the book that kept me reading is that no matter how bad things get Gus keeps trying to find a solution. Katie Tallo does a good job of keeping the reader guessing right until the end. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fellow readers, especially those who read the first book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
It took a little time to get into the story but the ending was great and they answered all outstanding questions I had which was very satisfying. I was able to piece together the history of the first book so not absolutely necessary to read Dark August first but I'm sure the first part of the story would make more sense if you did. Parts of the story were confusing to follow which timeframe we were in especially since the "current" state was very dark and a little hard to read at times and there weren't clear markers. Overall it was a good mystery and story to follow along with, I would recommend if you enjoy mysteries and don't mind if they get a little dark.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.
I have not read the first book Dark August. Which I need to if its anything like Poison Lilies!
I really enjoyed this book.
Gus our main character is very well drawn and developed.
An enthralling and heart racing story of mystery that you take with our heroine, Augusta Monet.
Intensely raw and a suspenseful story that will keep you up reading into all hours.
The intimate connections to the characters and surrounding areas were amazing.
The story telling is great and the characters felt real.
With lots of twists and turns. There were some real surprises thrown in there as well.
The story had me intrigued since the very beginning. It kept me hooked all throughout.
A dark, twisty, and crazy! I haven't read a good thriller in some time but Poison Lilies filled that void.
Harper Paperbacks thank you for this eARC!
I will post to my platforms closer to pub date.

Bloody brilliant. Katie is a master storyteller.
Gus makes a mistake she can’t undo, she does the only thing she can: cuts and runs. Packs all her things in the dead of night and takes off. Gus lands at The Ambassador Court, an art-deco apartment building with cheap rent in one of Ottawa’s oldest neighborhoods where no one knows her. The perfect place for a fresh start—or at least a good place to hide. She soon meets Poppy Honeywell, her reclusive elderly neighbor who wanders about in a pink kimono like an aging Hollywood starlet and who happens to be a descendant of the Mutchmores, one of the city's founding families. When a body emerges from an icy pond in a nearby park, Gus’s growing curiosity with Poppy and her influential family suddenly takes a perilous turn with deadly consequences.
I loved it and the way the story unfolds itself and give us One twist after another. Loved it's characters and the midpoint climax. Dark August was brilliant and this is more than brilliant. I think everyone should try it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for giving me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
