As someone who watched Little House on the Prairie growing up, I was excited to get to read this book. I was intrigued when I learned that Melissa and her husband, Tim, decided to buy a fixer upper and make it into their own little farm. The book was well written and I have to say that reading her story made me want chickens too and a large garden as well. Visioning what their faces looked like and the gleam in their eyes from all they had accomplished with living in the country during a pandemic is what this book is about. If you're looking for a good book with a story behind it on how to live through a pandemic as we all have but add fixing up a house to the picture, then this is the one for you!

I grew up watching Little House, and have read Melissa Gilbert's previous memoir about her time on the show. I love that this book is different. She is so approachable and relatable especially in a time when the world has been turned upside down, and nothing is like we knew it. It was wonderful to read her experience of moving to a country life, and I think part of my connection to her experience is that I grew up in Michigan, so I understand her fascination (love!) with nature and being in the woods where you hear nothing but the sound of animals and crisp leaves. It was nice to share her experience with the pandemic and all the craziness that the last two years have brought. And gosh darn it, I learned a lot from her including how to scare off bears, how to raise chickens (clean their bums!) and recipes for midwest-type comfort foods.I love that this memoir is not another unapproachable Hollywood star telling the world about her fame and wealth. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book in advance. I loved it, and if Melissa and Tim would like to be BFFs, I'm open. :)

Back to the Prarie is a memoir about Melissa Gilbert's life from past to present. It is more about her self-reflecting and making priorities that are right for her and her family.

If you have ever seen Little House on the Prarie, then you know who Melissa Gilbert is. She is kind and considerate and I feel like I got to see a different side to the well-known actress. As she details so many ups and downs in her life, you see how she isn't your typical Hollywood star. Yes, she does enjoy some luxuries but it didn't come without her hard work and sacrifices.

As the book goes on, she details her relationship with now-husband Timothy Busfield. It's great because you can see a change happening. She found her person and their life together just seems right. Their relationship and the start of the pandemic really helped them find their paths back to nature. When they bought a house and renovated it in the Catskills of New York, they started to enjoy the simplicities of life even more.

I give Back to the Prarie 4 stars. I think Melissa Gilbert is really open and honest in this book and you can't help but enjoy her approachable nature. You also get to see how down-to-earth she is. Overall, it's a truthful and personable memoir that I really enjoyed.

Very pleased with this book. Enjoyed reading about authors current life. Fun to read as we are similar in age, and loved watching her on tv.

Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free, it had no bearing on rating I gave it.

Back to the Prarie by Melissa Gilbert is a book full of anecdotes by the author as she and her husband, actor/director Timothy Busfield, buy and renovate a home in the Catskills of New York. The book touches very briefly on her divorce and remarriage, but mainly covers their busy lives intertwined with home renovations and simple living. Just as they get the home livable, covid strikes. All of the history of the time period is seen through her eyes, as she also raises chickens, starts a garden, and shares recipes. Anyone who is a fan of the actress will enjoy this, her fourth book. There’s not much in the way of new information, but it’s a quick and easy read with her voice shining through from the page. .

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review “Back to the Prairie “. I wanted to love this book because I have been a fan of Melissa Gilbert since I was a child. But, I found this book to be boring. She mentioned how she and her husband were having financial issues and it felt like she wrote this for the sole purpose for financial gain. I was very disappointed.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked some parts of this book, but there were other parts that felt like filler (example: several pages where Gilbert talks about buying a couch.) If you're interested in reading about all the little details of setting up a home in the country then you will probably like this book a lot. But if you're hoping for more of a celebrity memoir, this book probably won't be for you.

Melissa Gilbert will always been known at Laura Ingalls the girl who brought Little House on the Prairie to life on the small screen. But in this book she gets back to nature in a cabin in the Catskills of the New York during the COVDI-19 pandemic. And I have to say I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. But then she's always been one of my favorite actress's.
