Molly is a devoted wife with a young child. Her husband is wrongly convicted of being a Luddite and is sent as a convict to Australia. Molly is determined to follow him but the fare is too much and it is going to take her years to raise the money. Molly finds out that she is able to work the loom that her husband had used to make a living and this gives her hope for the future. Unfortunately there is an admirer from her pre marriage days who is determined to make Molly his and he is desperate to stop her being reunited with her husband.
This was a good story that was based on facts and I enjoyed it.

Very intriguing story based on true events. Found the angle of the very interesting as I rarely read about the family left behind rather the convicts story. Enjoyed the main characters and the story but had a bit of trouble at first getting used to the old English dialect. But it did add to the authenticity. Thank you very much to netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

I enjoyed this book, I am glad that Molly was as strong as she was and understood her temptation for an easier life. I was not sure if Thomas would be granted a pardon or where he would be going when his sentence had ended. I am glad for a happy ending and made so much better it was based on facts.

Another fantastic story from this author. Set in Bolton, depicting the Luddite uprisings and the mayhem is caused this family.I love the regional dialect..

I found this book too slow for me. The story was fine but it lost me with the characters language (old english) and a slow storyline.
I gave it three stars as I could see how others would enjoy the book.

When Molly Holden's husband, Thomas, is convicted in 1812 of being a Luddite on the word of a secret informer, he is sentenced to be transported to Australia. Left with their baby daughter, Molly must find work to survive. But the man who informed on Thomas is a former suitor of Molly's and Isaac believes that with Thomas out of the way she will return to him. Yet Molly is determined to join her husband and find a way to pay for her passage.

The story is based on real events. It's emotional, well written and feels true to the era it's written in. The characters are well developed and believable. They're also a mixed bunch. some you'll love, others you'll loathe. My heart went out to Molly when her husband was transported, leaving her and their young daughter behind. The struggles she had to face and to try and keep one step ahead of Isaac. I thoroughly enjoyed this engrossing read.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Canelo and the author #LibbyAshworth for my ARC of #TheConvictsWife in exchange for an honest review.

This book gives an account of taking part in unlawful meetings and the consequences of doing so. I enjoyed the factual side to this book and had never thought about the people left behind after their loved ones were transported.
I did find it a bit drawn out at places, however that may be personal preference.

I really enjoyed this story of Molly and Thomas, of how one decision can changed lives. Molly is a strong character which I like to read about. The author created some great characters and the historical details were excellent.

I really enjoy reading books by this author and this book was no exception. It’s title gives it away as it is based in 1812 and all about Molly and how she survives her husband Thomas being convicted of being a Luddite and subsequently transported. It’s a great page turner and you can really feel the emotions and hardships both parties go through with separation and the long wait and desperate struggle to be reunited.

Highly recommend

The Convict's Wife by Libby Ashworth

When Molly Holden’s husband, Thomas, is convicted in 1812 of being a Luddite on the word of a secret informer, he is sentenced to be transported to Australia. Left with their baby daughter, Molly must find work to survive.
But the man who informed on Thomas is a former suitor of Molly’s, and Isaac believes that with Thomas out of the way she will return to him…
Yet Molly is determined to join her husband and find a way to pay for passage, all the while trying to stay one step ahead of Isaac’s nefarious interferences. But will it be enough to cross the ocean and be reunited with her beloved Thomas?
A great read made even better by it being based on actual fact.
I enjoyed reading about Molly and her life as a young women coping to survive with a baby alone after her husband is imprisoned and sent away.
Life is made harder by Isaac a man who wants Molly for his own.
Molly is strong , bold and feisty in doing all that she can to get herself and her daughter back to her busband.
A gem of a read.
