I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wren joins a search for a lost child while also searching into the mysteries of a local legend and her own past. The ending of this novel is satisfying. I love it!

Although Jaime Jo Wright’s books are not my usual genres I read, I can’t resist grabbing and devouring each of them, because her writing is so superb and riveting. Her stories are always creative and have plenty of twists and turns to keep me turning the pages—although I have to read them in the daytime. This one was especially creepy, but so fantastic.

Both of the storylines with Ava Coons in 1930 and Wren Blythe in present day were captivating. With plenty of spookiness, mystery, suspense, and plot twists, this book is sure to thrill those who enjoy ghostly stories. 4.5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Bethany House though NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

DNF. I couldn’t get into it. I really struggled to connect with the characters, and couldn’t settle into the story enough to finish it.

Jamie Jo Wright is a master of the dual-timeline novel. I’ve read other novels that try to employ the dual-timeline technique, and most end up over-complicated and fall flat. Not so with a Jamie Jo Wright story. And On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor is another intricately compelling novel that you need to read.

On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor was fascinating. The plot was taut throughout, fraught with intrigue, and wrought with skill. Her characters, as always, are beautifully complicated and easy to connect with. This story touches on everything from mental unwellness to Civil War profiteers, and it all comes together so smoothly you don’t even realize how disparate the topics should be.

This was a great read, and I highly recommend you grab On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor (and any other Jamie Jo Wright novel while you’re at it). 🙂 An easy 4 out of 5 stars for me!

Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for the digital copy of this novel for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! 🙂

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to provide an honest review of "The Souls of Lost Lake." This was my first time reading Jaime Jo Wright and it will not be the last! This was a really great story with fantastic character development. The past-present format kept me engaged throughout the book. I was really pleased that she included elements of the Christian faith throughout the story. It was so nice to read a novel that didn't go down the secular path. I truly enjoyed this aspect of the book and one of the main reasons I will be reading another of Wright's masterpieces. Thank you very much!

Okay, I’ll start with a confession. The Souls of Lost Lake is my first Jaime Jo Wright book. While I might need some post-completion therapy, it won’t be my last. Wow. This author is brilliant.

I don’t typically read straight suspense, and happily, there are small romance threads in this split time story, one in each period. I’m very glad I made the exception. The premise of this book intrigued me and so I decided to start reading. Confession: I began by only reading in daylight, because I am the easiest person to creep out. Weirdly, I didn’t find much to be concerned about and quickly switched to reading during day or night. The Souls of Lost Lake grabbed my attention and didn’t return it until The End.

TWO MYSTERIES, BUT HOW ARE THEY LINKED?

In present time, we have the staff of a Bible camp in the backwoods of Wisconsin helping search for a missing six year old. Rumor has it, she’s been taken by Ava Coons whose ghost stalks the woods after she appeared almost a century ago covered in blood and carrying an axe. Arwen (Wren) feels a strange compulsion toward the search and the story of Ava.

In 1930, Ava is accused once again after two locals from Tempters Creek are found dead. Only the pastor and his housekeeper believe in her innocence, and even Ava can’t remember how her family disappeared.

The two heroines, Ava and Wren are very different but equally lost and while their stories are so very different, their journeys share striking similarities. Both needed to summon up remarkable courage, both had to face tragedy and sorrow. And when they did, life was forever changed.

The story itself was compelling and clever, with a twist coming around ninety percent of the way through that I did not see coming at all, but yet it fit the narrative completely. Tightly written, cleverly conceived and compelling, I’d highly recommend The Souls of Lost Lake to anyone who enjoys suspense.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley. The opinions are my own.

The Souls of Lost Lake by Jaime Jo Wright
Loved this book, love the storyline and genre. Kept me intrigued and wanting to find out what happened to Jasmine the little girl missing and how, if at all does Ava Coonts fit into her story and what does she have to do with Arwen (Wren). Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book! I absolutely loved it and leave my own opinion.

Wow! Thirteen-year old Ava Coons emerged from the woods bloody with no memory of what happened to her family. This mystery will become a campfire story about a murderess still roaming the forest. Years later Wren Blythe is helping with a ministry at a youth camp near the place the story took place. When a child disappears and a hunt begins... Ava Coons is once again linked through the stories. This one kept me reading and guessing just who was involved and how this sinister mystery would end!
I requested a copy through NetGalley, no review was required. My review is voluntary.

Jaime knows how to write an excellent book and this is one of those. I don’t think I have ever read a Jaime Jo Wright book I didn’t love.

What in the world is going on? I want to believe Ava is innocent but so much points against her. And what is happening in Wren’s world? It’s seems like there are supernatural occurrences but Jaime always comes around to a logical reason it seems that way, but I couldn’t figure it out until all was revealed.

If you like books in the spookier side you will love anything written by Jaime.

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

One part thriller, one part mystery, one part drama, and one part romance gives a whole lot of a fantastic reading.

Once I actually had time to sit and consume this story, I couldn’t put it down. I definitely had a few “Crawdads” vibes from The Souls of Lost Lake but the split-time kept everything wonderful and unique.

Now, I will confess- Preacher Pritchard gave a smolder effect. I mean, nothing is more…um…steamy?…than a man who Loves Jesus and people but is wounded. (Father, forgive me and other woman who read this and fainted with the whole “ripped preacher without a shirt on” business).

Now, this mystery/psychological thriller element - yikes!!! There was so much darkness and gloom that it almost had those “ghost story” sensations but they were weaved together with the faith element with out being cringy. And the “who done it” was not so easily detected. I love that. There’s nothing less entertaining than being able to figure out who the bad guy was beginning of the book. That was definitely not the case in this story.

I can’t decide who’s story I liked more…Ava or Wren. They both fed off each other so well that you couldn’t have one without the other.

This is truly a masterpiece! Welcome to my top five favorite books for 2022, Jaime Jo Wright!

I am reviewing a copy of The Soulja of Lost Lake through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

In order to save the innocent t they will have to face insidious evil!

Wren Blythe has loved living in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, helping her father with ministry at a youth camp. After a little girl in the area goes missing though, an all out search is started and with it the decades old campfire story of Ava Coons, the murderess who is believed to still roam the forest. Joining the search, Wren stumbles upon the Coonses' cabin ruins and a sinister mystery she is determined to unearth.

In 1930 Ava Coons has spent the last several years carrying the mantle of mystery since the day she emerged from the woods as a thirteen-year-old girl, spattered with blood, dragging a logger's ax. She has come to terms with the fact she will never remember what happened to her family, whose bodies were never found, and that the people of Tempter's Creek will always blame her for their violent deaths. And after a member of the town is murdered, and another goes missing, rumors spread that Ava's secret is perhaps more malicious than previously imagined.

Two women, separated by nearly a century must confront a wickedness that not only challenges who they are but also threatens their lives, and the lives of those they love.

If you’re looking for a fast peace read, with deep spiritual truth, I highly recommend The Souls of Lost Lake!

Five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

The Souls of Lost Lake is a split time novel. One thread follows Wren (Arwen) in contemporary times, with a plot centered around the disappearance of a little girl. The historical thread is set in the 1930s with Ava Coons, a young woman who can’t remember what happened to her family, but since she emerged from the woods carrying a blood-covered ax and her family was never seen again, she is the first one townspeople suspect when someone else is murdered a few years later. Both stories take place in the same area, and in Wren’s time, the legend of Ava Coons had become a staple campfire ghost story. But sometimes legends get it wrong.

Both Wren and Ava feel figuratively lost, so along with the suspenseful elements and the romances, readers get to follow both characters as they dig into their own pasts and discover more about themselves. There were some great twists and some wonderful characters, making this one a fun read. I definitely recommend it for romantic suspense fans who enjoy just a slight bit of spooky. It's clean with a few light faith elements.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a review copy.

The Souls of Lost Lake is my first read by Jaime Jo Wright. I have found a new to me author that really enjoy!
The story bounced back and forth between present time where we follow Arwen's story and the past where we follow Ava's story. Both stories follow the same town and surrounding areas revealing more and more about the town's history and a few ghost stories in the mix. While all of that may seem to be great, there is a more sinister happening going on. There have been people gone missing in the area for years. Everyone wants to blame ole Ava Coons and her sad life for the missing. She drags them to the lost lake never to be seen again. At least that is how folk lore tells it. In present time at the ministry camp, a little girl goes missing. Search parties are out looking but everyone, whether they admit it or not, immediately thinks of Ava and Lost Lake. Where else could this little girl have gone?! Jaime Jo Wright takes us back through the history of Wren and Ava to weave a story that unearths so many secrets and explains why people take the actions they take.
I really enjoy The Souls of Lost Lake and will definitely be looking for additional works by Jaime Jo Wright! I am surprised I had not crossed paths with this writer yet. Even though her story was divided between two characters, the story was very easy to follow. I thoroughly enjoy Wright's writing style and often felt like I was part of the story itself. I will be recommending The Souls of Lost Lake to my fellow reading friends. Special thanks to NetGalley, Jaime Jo Wright, and Bethany House Publishers for the advance digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion. 4.5 stars for me

How is this the first time I've read a Jaime Jo Wright book and why in the world did I wait so long?! Admittedly, this isn't my usual genre of choice, but I'm so, so glad I ignored that fact and read The Souls of Lost Lake. I was immediately hooked...intensely intrigued...and delightfully surprised. I recommended it to my sister and she read it, loved it, and is now on a Jaime Jo Wright binge of her own. LOVED!

The Souls of Lost Lake by Jamie Jo Wright
This is the first by Jamie No Wright I've decided to read. What drew me to this book was the title and the description. It was the right book! I have to say that I will definitely start reading this authors other book's.

I loved the two different periods and going between Awen and Ava. The story show's how one false word can change a persons life. One sentence can change from one person to the next.

All the characters were well written and were likeable. The storyline was excellent and it pulled me in from the very first page. I had a hard time putting this book down!

I would recommend this to family and friends through social media, word of mouth and through all bookstore sites.

I give this a 5 stars out of 5 stars

I received this complimentary book from the publisher through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone.
