Chock-full of history, names and details - some that are familiar and some that you probably haven't heard of before.
I really liked how each story and chapter was set up. The feeling of listening in as a grandfather tells his granddaughter and anyone else around about his passion for history is something that transports the reader right alongside the granddaughter. The reader can feel the passion that the grandfather has for this topic and the acceptance and even fun that the granddaughter has spending time with him.
There is a lot of details; names, dates and locations that can make this book a bit hard to read at times if you are not used to it. But the setup of the book works to alleviate that with its clear separation of each story and each assassination attempts.
Forgotten history, unique history and sometimes funny history - full of backstabbing's and plots. A wonderful approach to history and learning.
A well written book providing stories to attempts to kill the royalty in England. I especially enjoyed the manner of the story telling (a grandfather telling his granddaughter). It made the read more enjoyable and you felt like you were there listening to the story. A great read for the history enthusiast.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
My thanks to the author, publishers and netgalley.
I enjoyed the heck out of this!
It was maybe a bit tongue in cheek. Or maybe it was for an audience like me? Someone who is an American, looking for a good time! Keeping track of all the royalty who have the same names is tiresome. However, I usually remember those who might, should, and were tried to kill.?
As an American, I hate the royals. They are a bunch of leeches! But, we have Congress and the Senate! Who am I to throw stones?!
Oddballs, oddities, usurpers, botched murders and unexplained conspiracies throughout English royal history smartly brought back to life with warmth, witt and lots of insightful intelligence.
I loved this very quircky and entertaining trip!
A wonderful journey through the history of our beloved neighbors and their dusky & often crazy historical shenanigans....
A marvellous road trip absolutely perfect for all ages👍👍
Many thanks to Netgalley and Cranthorpe for this terrific ARC
Historical mysteries conveyed by a story-telling grandpa to his bright-eyed grand-daughter.
The period covered begins with the Anglo-Saxons and moves through to the reign of the current English monarch.
The story-telling is rather simplistic in its presentation, and is interspersed with narrative similar to a theatrical performance. Not one of his better books. I would recommend for a much younger reading audience.
