The description of the book was interesting but unfortunately the story felt short and flat for me. I was expecting more twist or more thrill from the book. The characters were also unlikeable so I had a hard time connecting with the story. Still a big thanks for letting me read this.
Louise Sharland does it again. Read this book in one sitting. A dark domestic thriller that reeled you in instantly and kept you guessing with unpredictable plot twists. Seems like everyone had a secret to keep. Families are funny that way. Loved it.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc
Really enjoyed this one. It was gripping and the ending could have gone either way with Matthew, I couldn’t predict which!
It was set in Plymouth - love a book set where I have been/ live, could really visualise everything
Great cast of characters
Lots of intrigue and my suspicion was directed all in a different direction with every turn of the page
I liked the main character - don’t want to give away spoilers, so I will just say she was strong and assertive in situations where she could have crumbled
I enjoyed most of the ending, though I there was one person I felt deserved some forgiveness who did not get it, that made me sad!
Overall, a great read, and I will be reading her other books!
This book had an interesting premise about a wife "Ali" who is recovering after a tragic accident on her way home from her anniversary party with her husband Matthew. Matthew is presumed dead and Ali is trying to piece together the night it happen. She is struggling to accept he is dead and is starting to find out that he along with friends and family were keeping secrets. I struggled with some parts of the book and to me some of the characters were not that likeable. I liked the premise of the book just thought it fell short with delivery.
Received this book for my honest review from Netgalley.
On the evening of their wedding anniversary, Ali and Matthew are involved in a fatal car accident.
Grief-stricken, Ali can’t bring herself to believe that her beloved Matthew is gone…
The smell of his aftershave lingers in their bedroom. His voice still rings out on their answerphone. She sees his face in the eyes of strangers.
But as the months pass, and her family and friends rally round, Ali starts to uncover secrets that Matthew kept from her.
Did she really know her husband as well as she thought she did? And why can’t she shake the feeling that somehow, somewhere, he is still alive?
Brilliant writing and more importantly, riveting reading. This was a brilliant read. Set aside plenty of time to read in without a workday. It had my head spinning!
Quick read with plenty of twists. Great beach read.. but overall kind of meh.if you don’t t like cruising you may want to avoid this.
My Husband’s Secrets is a quick read that had some interesting twists and turns. I can’t say I loved it, but it held by interest enough to keep reading. There were secrets and lies and a plot that was fairly interesting. The characters in this book were on the unlikeable side, but I was still invested enough to find out what the ending of the book would reveal. I always like an epilogue in a book, so I really appreciated that part of this story.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC.
I rate this 4.75. This is one of the most exciting mystery/thriller book I’ve read. An easy read, captivating. It is the first book of Louise Sharland’s that I read. The prologue left me wanting to read more immediately. Back and forth with what happened? Where? When? How? Some of the plots I thought I would be able to predict, but those were hazy memories almost as if I’m experiencing the main character’s predicament. When the epilogue came, I sigh a relief, and stepped into that “sun-filled kitchen” one with her.
I wonder what it is like to read her debut novel back then, I’ll find out in the near future no doubt.
I really enjoyed this novel, it is a domestic thriller with fantastically complex rendered characters, no cliches to be found! The plot is very engaging and there are enough twists to keep you engrossed. This will be an ideal holiday read, I really struggled to stop once I'd started!
This story was good, very emotional read.
The characters were the problem for me. I just didn't find them real, or relatable. This made the story slow down at times. The plot was good, and it had a few good twists and turns.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book and thought it was a good domestic thriller. Didn't love the characters but thought the story was fun!
Overall, My Husband's Secrets kept me pretty interested, but I would say fell short for me. The secret is not that shocking or surprising. I would say that I felt letdown by the end.

Ahh, the dreaded second book after a successful debut!
What began with a fantastic and compelling prologue fizzled out to a mediocre story. It was as if it became stuck on the conveyor belt of good intentions. It’s the second book I’ve read within days where an initial event is rehashed to eternity AND has too much swearing. Readers lose interest while reading this genre (mystery/thriller) if it doesn’t progress quickly and is caught up in too much drama. I also didn’t think the language was necessary as it didn’t add to the plot. There are MANY different ways, other than swearing, of letting readers know (if they don’t already) that a partner is angry at being duped and now trying to grieve. Show, don’t tell! Full of amazing potential, it was hampered by a confusing protagonist, a cast of shallow, unlikeable (smothering) characters in addition to both events and surface-level conversation that didn’t progress the plot.
Despite what I felt it lacked, it was still a quick read with lots of secrets and twists. A perfect beach read.
Please read the other reviews on this book and don’t rely on my critique to be the sole basis of your choice.
I was gifted this advance copy by Louise Sharland, Avon Books UK, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
A good read which kept me glued to it until I had it finished, plenty of twists and turns galore, a good ending ..
This was okay. So much of it was emotional drama rather than twisted thrills. In places I appreciated the detailed writing in others I skimmed through wanting the pace to pick up rather than slog through purple prose. The characters really fell short--they either didn't add up or were just plain dim.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Avon Books UK and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
I quite appreciate a title keeps me entertained and engaged throughout, mission accomplished.
Characters are well written, formed and easily play off others. They come to life making it relatable.
Is anyone what they seem?
After Ali and her husband Matthew are involved in a road accident, Ali spends her days wondering what happened to her husband who seemed to just vanish after the crash. Did he die in the crash, or did he walk away confused? As she begins to discover secrets her husband kept from her, she must do everything she can to find out the truth... A thrilling story that keeps you turning the pages. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
I didn’t hate it, but it was like a soap opera. It held a bit too much office drama for my taste. The characters were all guilty of keeping secrets from each other, and those secrets destroyed relationships and ended in a death.
This book is dark with very strong emotions - but don’t let that put you off! On the contrary this is what makes it such a fantastic read.
This was an interesting read. I found it a little slow paced and it didn't always hold my interest. Overall I found it an ok read.
