Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
Wonderful story, very much enjoyed it.
What a gorgeous summery book. I think a lot of readers will love the setting of a book cafe in a lovely park setting I mean what’s not to love. Kat has the perfect job managing the bookshop her half brother Solly has just started work in the park and she is enjoying life but then things start to go wrong and Kat blames herself . Solly and his work friend Noah help Kat and maybe she can find the family she has always wanted. This book has everything evil stepmothers, vengeful girlfriends and a loving dog. Sue Moorcroft is fast becoming a favourite author
Sue Moorcroft gets better with every book she writes, how does she do it when her last one was the best so far..
Set in |France with great characters and a wonderful story line. Well worth far more than 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
I would firstly like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources and NetGalley, who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review.
In the first instance the title of this book drew me in, I love books set in France!! And then the cover caught my eye too, I loved it, it was so inviting and made me want to read it!
Summer At The French Cafe features a wonderful book cafe and is situated in Parc Lemmel, France and the beautiful descriptions really made me feel as though I was there.
This was a lovely, Summer read and definitely gave off lovely warm and sunny vibes.
The cast of characters were wonderful, some who I loved and some not so much!
The story moved along at a great pace and kept me reading right up until the very last page…
Well this certainly got me in the summery mood! A trip to France to the glorious sounding book café in Parc Lemmel was definitely needed.
Kat works in the book café in the middle of Parc Lemmel, her dream job, full of visitors both local and tourists. She thinks that everything is perfect, a nice home, her pet dog, dream job and perfect boyfriend. That is until she finds out her boyfriend isn’t what he seems, and then her summer has a different look to it. But with the chance to get to know her brother, and his roommate Noah, things start to look up despite the obstacles that are put in her way.
As with Sue Moorcroft’s other books, the writing transports you to Parc Lemmel and to the delightful sounding book café in the sunshine (anyone else wanting to take a trip?). Kat is a lovable character and you want her to find her happiness when her world is tipped upside down and then is faced with continuous obstacles. It’s great to see her relationship building with her brother after being apart from a longtime and the same with Noah.
This is perfect for your summertime reading!
When Sue Moorcroft releases a new book you know you're in for a treat.
Beautifully written, with the descriptions of both Parc Lemmel and Kurchhoffen making me want to pack my suitcase and book a flight, who doesn't love the idea of a bookshop, in France?
Kat and Noah were both such lovely characters, both having been hurt in the past. And I loved seeing their friendship blossom throughout the pages.
Heartwarming and as always an absolute delight to read.
Sue comes up trumps again with a gorgeous read full of relationships, family and drama.
Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for my tour spot.

I love love and anything that makes me travel in my mind so this book was the perfect escape with wonderful characters and a page turning writing. This book will leave you swooning and losing track of time and cheering and crying and.... picking it up again and raving about it to whoever cares to listen... that's a lot of ands
I loved reading this book and would definitely recommend this book to anyone and it definitely deserves a space in your never-ending tbr list.
Set in an idyllic little french town in northern France. Told from the perspectives of Kat and Noah. Each have their own problems.
I appreciated the writing style as it was very easy and light to read. However in my opinion the book itself was slightly too long and could have been wrapped up quicker. This wasn’t your standard romance story with the addition of a spurned wife and controlling husband albeit not from the same couple.
I always adore a story set in a Mediterranean country especially France at its one of my favourite places to holiday. A lovely holiday read perfect for the summer!
Summer at the French Café really has a little bit of everything and it’s such a wonderful, immersive read.
Sue Moorcroft completely drew me in to the setting of Parc Lemmel and Livres et Café and I was smitten from the very beginning. This area, and Kirchoffen where Kat lives is described to perfection and I was completely taken there. It sounds such an idyllic place and who doesn’t want to work in a café/bookshop in a beautiful park? It’s a dream of mine and I lived it through this novel.
Kat was such a sweet character. She is vulnerable but also fierce in her own way. I loved her loyalty to the café and her friends. She was so supportive of Noah and his situation. In the beginning I completely pictured Noah in a certain way but that completely changes as this became a little more heated. I loved the connection that Kat and Noah had and couldn’t stop reading as I needed to know where things were going. I adored Angelique, Kat’s dog, too. She had such a cute personality and was very much a central character.
Sue Moorcroft never seems to write a simple love story – there are so many other themes touched on in this book and they give the characters real depth. There’s the topic of blended families, illness, betrayal and coercive relationships amongst others. These aspects really create 3d and relatable characters and situations.
Summer at the French Café is a wonderful read and perfect escapism. I highly recommend adding this one to the top of your pile ASAP.
In the Alsace region of France, summer is not without its emotional complications for Kat, the manager of a bustling book café. Looking forward to a lovely summer in a job she loves, her relationship implodes with subsequent difficulties at work that threaten her career. Having her brother Solly and meeting the enigmatic Noah are the positive influences in her life, but they are not without problems, and Kat is reluctant to risk taking a chance on love again.
Romance is a theme of this story, but it's conflicted with Kat and Noah's emotional past and his current family drama. Blended families are another predominant theme explored through Kat and Noah's experiences. Lies and secrets complicate their lives, and they have to work hard to be together.
Despite the angst and the drama, there are many lighthearted moments in this realistically plotted story, and I particularly enjoyed those with Kat's cute dog Angelique. I also enjoyed the believably flawed characters, the storytelling, and the vibrant setting.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
Summer at the French café is an emotional read, heartwarming and uplifting. It's an enjoyable story of second chances and love, family loyalties and feuds, loss and betrayal, regrets and hope.
Release date: May 12
Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of Summer at the French Cafe ebook from NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Kat, originally from the UK has been living in France for many years managing a book store/cafe in a public park in Alsace. Kat is trudging along in a semi satisfying relationship, running the books shop/cafe and spending time with her dog…..until things go awry.
Kat’s half brother Solley shows up to live in France for the summer, reminding Kat of how lonely and abandoned she felt growing up. Her so called boyfriends wife and children show up at the cafe to tell Kat just what they think of her breaking up their family and Kat’s perfect job may not be as perfect as she once thought.
The only promising possibility in Kat’s summer is the blossoming friendship/relationship with Solley’s roommate Noah.
I enjoyed this story, the setting and characters but there was a lot going on and almost too many characters to keep track of. I liked Kat’s character but would have loved more development of her an Noah’s relationship. Quick read that was easy to get into and transports you to a beautiful summer cafe in France.
My first read by this author but I can see Sue Moorcroft quickly becoming a summer favourite! I’m rating this book 4/5 stars and recommend you add it to your summer TBR.
The details and the location are picturesque, and as the name suggests, it’s a great summer read. Featuring a cutesy cafe in the Kirchoffen village of France, the book is a heartwarming read.
Kat’s stance and circumstance are really relatable, especially for me, against my better judgment that they shouldn’t be. But I like it anyway. She’s an independent woman, and not just because she had to be or so the people around her think, but because she’s fierce and loyal, and despite the abandonment issues, she’s capable of surviving in the worst of circumstances. Her relationship with Solly makes my heart clench, and I feel desolate for the twelve-year-old who was isolated and separated from her own brother (albeit half) by their mother. The feeling of belonging she lacks is something I deeply feel and makes me feel all the more shattered.
I feel dejected for Noah, who was separated from his own daughter, just because her mother decided it’s totally normal to travel across the country without informing her little baby’s father because her husband wants to. I’m happy that he gets to see her eventually, and their love still stands as strong.
Most of all, I feel for Clemence. She isn’t Kat, and she doesn’t have to be, but for such a sensitive soul to have to go through so much drama, I feel sick.
My favorite characters are, of course, little Clemence and Angelique. But I feel the book was too slow and a little redundant for me. If Yohan is, in fact, as controlling as they come, he would have done something that could’ve been a plot twist. Though surprisingly, he never realizes it. And if Florine did want to run away from him, she’s foolish to think he’ll change. There are a lot of points in the story that contradict themselves, but it’s a fair read.
Of course, it’s for the fans of Carole Matthews and Katie Fforde, which I have decided to never read from again, they’re too slow for me, but I’m pretty sure a lot of people will enjoy the book.
I wanted to love this book but it just fell a little flat for me. I don’t know if it was the actual plot that just didn’t interest me. It was written good and I’m sure others will enjoy it.
I love Sue Moorcroft and this is yet another wonderful novel, such a delight to read. Is it the perfect set up, a bookshop with cafe by a glorious park, I think this might just be. I thought the friendship that develops between Kat and Noah was really special. There is drama, a bit of mystery, obviously romance and many good character plots, it’s got great pace and wonderful writing as you’d expect, overall simply a thoroughly enjoyable book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for an honest opinion
What can I say? Sue Moorcroft you’ve done it again -you’ve captured my heart with tales of Alsace and Kat and of course the beautiful Angelique.
I’m a huge fan of Sue’s writing and The Summer at the French Cafe is another brilliant read. Wonderful characters and a beautiful sounding location of Parc Lemmel are wrapped in a warm hug of a book. As usual Sue doesn’t shy away from those tougher subjects and this time it’s about controlling figures (TW) but it’s done with such sensitivity. I loved Kat’s story and am hoping she and Angelique may visit us again in the future
I have not read anything by Sue Moorcroft before but as I love to escape with stories about life in a French village with quirky characters I was intrigued when I saw the cover of this book I decided to take a chance and I am so glad I did.
This was not the light hearted love story that I was expecting from the cover. Instead it is about an English woman who even as a grown up is suffering from the childhood trauma brought on by her parents divorce. She still deals with feelings of abandonment and that she is an outsider in her own family which she had never had the chance to resolve. When her brother arrives unexpectedly Kat is happy get the chance to rebuild the relationship with her brother who she has not seen for a long time.
Kat moved to this beautiful corner of the world to build a new life and is finding fulfillment as the manager of a bookstore and cafe in Parc Lemmel a large tourist attraction and she is looking forward to the summer season. Sues description of the bookstore and cafe are realistic and absolutely delightful. It was easy to picture the staff serving delicious pastries and coffee to their customers and it left me with a strong desire to visit.
Just as I was thinking that Kat was living the perfect life Sue swiftly changes everything. Kat is left feeling angry and hurt and that she has been taken advantage of when she is confronted by the nasty vengeful wife of a man who Kat has been having a relationship without knowing that he was married and when the wife wreaks havoc with the cafe website Kat has to deal with the fallout.
I was so happy when Sue brought Noah into the story to be Kat's love interest and their beautiful slow burn romance starts to build into something special. Noah is dealing with issues of his own chasing his ex-wife and daughter across France. Kat is willing to help him to work things out with his ex so that he can spend time with his daughter, even if it means that the man she has fallen for will leave her behind.
With Noah's encouragement and help Kat finds herself able to deal with her ex and his wife and to put her relationship with her father on a better footing and it looks like Kat and Noah will get their happy ending. That's until there is a totally unexpected twist to the story and it looks like Kat's life will fall apart after all.
Through everything Kat is amazingly strong and resilient and is a heroine to admire. Noah all along seems like a good guy but for a while I was wishing he would get a bit more of a backbone while dealing with his ex wife. I especially enjoyed the character of Noah's daughter who seemed like a wonderful bright, friendly and happy kid who was so happy to be with her father again.
All in all this is an enthralling story set in a gorgeous location you will long to visit. You can feel the warmth and sunshine seeping out of the pages despite the moments when things are not going quite right. I can highly recommend this escape to France.
I could not get enough of this book! It was so cute and made me want to travel again so bad. How could you not love a book where it takes place with a cafe that is also a bookstore? The answer is you can’t!
Kat and Noah start out with such a cute friendship, and I loved seeing Noah come out of his shell as the book progressed. Now it wasn’t always rainbow and sunshine, I loved how Sue Moorcroft wrote this book and the drama that went along with it. Over all a great read.
A very good book! Would recommend for a feel good holiday read! Very descriptive, lots of character development and twists and turns, a perfect little French adventure!
