GIs and Ginger Beer is the 2nd book in The Great Summer Street Party and picks up where the 1st one lets off. The celebrations continue with the Anniversary of D-Day. Noah is continuing to put together living memories for the museum, Ashely is taking pictures and now working part-time at the Gallery and Eddie is in the US. Ashely's boss is showcasing a Cornish painter, Jake Tremayne. who does amazing portraits. He wants to paint Ashley and although she is not comfortable with her scars, he finally convinces her to sit for him. The result is amazing and Jake proclaims that she is his muse. When Eddie arrives back in town, he is extremely jealous of Jake and even though Ashley wants to try and work things out with Eddie, it puts a serious roadblock in the path of their relationship. In the first book, Ruby's daughter made her return to London, but she is back, living with Biddy and sharing more of her story.

As the story continues, Ashley and Eddie are still struggling with their relationship. They seem to take one step forward and two steps back. Ruby's story was heartbreaking, yet hopeful. Eddie is still trying to find out more information about his grandfather, who lived in Berecombe for a short time, and I have my suspicions but will get my answers in the next book. All the wonderful characters were here again. I love village life with the choir, the cafe and the parties. A great addition to this series. I am sure hoping that Ashely and Eddie finally get their problems sorted and either make a go of their relationship of move on, in the next book.

The Great Summer Street Part (Part Two): GIs and Ginger Beer by Georgia Hill

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily

A second chance…or a new romance?

With summer having arrived in Berecombe with sunshiny gusto, and the D-Day anniversary celebrations on the horizon, there’s much to keep Ashley Lydden busy as she settles further into her new life by the seaside. So why can’t she stop thinking about Eddie McQueen?

They came so close to having it all, but now Ashley isn’t sure where they stand. With flirty Cornish painter Jake Tremayne taking a shine to Ashley and asking her to sit for a portrait, things get even more complicated. It’s shaping up to be a summer of love…but which man will claim Ashley’s heart?

Picking up where the first part finishes - this part has a nice natural flow. It is difficult to write a review for the second part of a book without giving away any spoilers, but if you enjoyed the first part of this book then you will also enjoy this part. I enjoyed reading this quick read and I am looking forward to reading the third part in the near future.

Rating 4/5

This is the second book in this series and although it was a bit of a fun read it wasn't as good as the first book.

The story has the same characters as the previous boo and follows along the lines of the story of these characters and the lives they lead. American soldiers, romance, memories and more.

This is an easy and fun book to read and a continuing story so it will be interesting to read book three and see where the story goes from here.

Well, I couldn’t wait for this book, after reading part one, I devoured this in one sitting!

Back to Berecombe, Devon, catching up with Ashley and the special friendship’s she’s formed since moving there.
Being by the sea is my favourite place to be, sunshine or rain it’s very calming, which is how Ashley feels too.
Celebrating the 75th anniversary of D day, remembering the brave soldiers who fought for us, many of which didn’t return.
The poignant stories Ashley & Noah hear from people who went through it brought tears to my eyes, but also the way communities pull together in times of need is heart warming too!
Will Ashley get her happy ever after?
Roll on part three!

I enjoyed this even more than Part 1. It built nicely on what had been established in the first part, developing the characters further. It was a good mix of remembering and marking World War II and events in the present day. I enjoyed the seaside setting and the romantic plot line, blending with the interesting reminiscences of the war years at a very different time.

Thank you very much to NetGalley and the publisher for a free advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Even if I'm not a huge fan of book split into parts I am enjoying this one. It's compelling, entertaining, and engrossing.
Lovely setting, heartwarming story, likeable characters.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I really love these reads, broken into parts they are happy light reading, problem I have then is I want more and am sad it’s only in parts, I know, I know can’t have my cake and eat it. This follows on from the first part and takes us to Ashley’s recovery and D-Day celebration preparations. The characters again are wonderful amd well written, the story just flows, this is a fun mix of romance and history , can’t wait for the next part

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ARC, of The Great Summer Street Party Part 2: GIs and Ginger beer, by Georgia Hill. I liked the story and the characters, but I did not like the language.

Enjoyable book carrying on from the first one, we follow Ashley's story. Not as much content as the first but still worth reading. Looking forward to finishing the series. Thank you netgalley for the advance copy

Lovely to be back in Berecombe and follow Ashley's story.... will she manage to sort things out with Eddie or will Jake come along and put a spanner in the works. I am definitely looking forward to the next installment!

Continuing the story, this second part introduces Jake Tremayne who is an up and coming portrait artist displaying his work at an exhibition in the town. Things are still not resolved with Eddie and Ashley. I hope their issues are resolved in part three.

I loved my time spent in Berecombe on the coast of Lyme Bay with former art teacher, Ashley Lydden! Having read Millie Vanilla’s Cupcake Café by Georgia Hill and The Great Summer Street Party Part 1: Sunshine and Cider Cake, I fully expected to enjoy GIs and Ginger Beer too.

The story had a natural flow, the characters were likeable and the story was engrossing. Ashley had been in a bad car accident, sustaining terrible injuries resulting in leaving her job. She is in Berecombe following her recuperation. Preparations are being made to celebrate 75 years of D-Day and the town shall do it in style. But Ashley is not sure where things are headed with Eddie McQueen especially when she notices the new arrival, painter Jake Tremayne.

A delightful concoction of romance and historical fiction, I'm already looking forward to Blue Skies and Blackberry Pies (The Great Summer Street Party - book 3).

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from One More Chapter via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

This is a short book, which is part 2 in Tge Great Summer Street Party. You definitely need to have read the first part as this book is a continuation of the storyline.
Ashley is still very busy, organising the big 75th D-Day Anniversary. She has a lit to think about romantically too. It's difficult to not give away any spoilers, but this book builds up the anticipation nicely, and I cant wait to find out what happens in the third installment.
I love the location of this book, it is based on an area of Dorset that I am reasonably familiar with. It is a favourite place of mine, and I wish that this was real street party that I could attend.
I enjoyed reading this book, and I'm looking forward to reading the next part.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

This is a great continuation of The Great Summer Street Party Series! This second book definitely has built upon the first and is leading to a much anticipated conclusion in book three.

This series is filled with unique, wonderful characters, interesting plots and beautiful scenery. There seems to be a major obstacle to be overcome for the two main characters to finally become a couple, but with a romance book, readers know that true love will find a way. I am anxious to read book three and see how this happily ever after will arrive.

This book while being a light romance, is also a tribute to the American soldiers that fought in World War II. It is emotion at many times when townspeople reminisce of that time in history.

I want to thank HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

I’m really enjoying this series!

Reading this series feels like watching a limited series tv show. Each book leads into the next, a bit of back story but not too much. The set of characters remains the same, we’re just following them through their everyday lives.

This episode, errr, book, picks up with Ashley working in the gallery, still conflicted about Eddie and his situation. Ruby is back in town, courtesy of Biddy and Arthur. Petra is still feeding people well at the cafe.

All’s well in Berecomb, or is it? I don’t write spoilers, so you’ll have to read along to find out. There’s also another book on the way, you’ll see my review for that one soon!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
