Adorable illustrations and such an informative book on the pride flags and what each means. One thing I wish was included was definitions for different types of attraction. I felt like the definitions (at least some) where just lifted from an infographic made for adults. I think changing some of the language to simpler terms of providing definitions could have been helpful. Also, as a lesbian, I found the definition of lesbian in this book to not be completely aligned with my understanding of the term. However, I believe the definition used represents what lesbian used to mean, historically, so I understand the definition's use. Overall this was a great book. It would be perfect for a kid in that age 4-8 range, someone who still likes picture books but can handle more and unfamiliar words on the page.

This book was a lovely educational tool for young children learning about pride flags and what they all represent.
I loved that the artwork was inclusive of disabled people and people of colour.
The explanations were easy to follow, and were inclusive too.
This book will be a fantastic resource for many, many people, especially teachers of young queer kids.

This is a very short and basic, but equally important and informative, introduction to the different pride flags and how the rainbow flag came to exist. I didn’t realise that the colours on the flags had meanings other than that the flag was for a certain group of people (for example bisexual).

Review to come to Goodreads/my blog in June 2022.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just was in love with that pretty pink cover + I am always very interested in learning more about topics and I was curious what kind of things would be in this book about pride flags.

In this book we learn about various pride flags. From those for separate groups (like gay or bi) to the rainbow flags. How it all started (and who made the flags) and when each flag was made and also by who. It was quite fun to read though I did feel like more could have been said about things.

I definitely was surprised that some flags are still so new. I mean there are ones from 2010-2013. I had expected that the flags were a tad older.

I loved how the flags were shown. Not just here a flag, but a fun image showing the flag. For instance as a cellphone case, or a tattoo on someone's arm.

However... I do feel this could be BIGGER. It is beautifully named The Big Book of Pride Flags, but it is only 48 pages. I guess most flags are named/shown, but as I said the text is very basic/simple, I wouldn't have minded just a bit more on that front. More information.

But I did enjoy this one and I absolutely love the art. I loved that I learned new things (and once again was thinking if I was Bi or Pan). I would recommend the book.

This was a great book! I would consider myself fairly knowledgeable about LGBTQIA+ flags, but I definitely learned some more with this book.
I think it would be an excellent addition to any school or library, as it uses clear language and has great, inclusive illustrations.

A lovely, short read perfect for little minds. As a parent striving to teach inclusivity, tolerance, friendliness, and love, this title is definitely one I'll be adding to the list for teaching!

A really fun and informative look at not just the original pride flag and its origins but all of its recent changes and additions to the family too!

This is the first pictorial glossary of the LGBT+ flags, including their history of when each of their flags was invented and how they evolved. The colour symbolism which was truly interesting, as a person who has studies colour symbolism within Media studies and literature this has been truly informative, and I will use these descriptions in future lessons involving colour symbolism.
I thoroughly recommend this for both primary and secondary students and it would be perfect for those who would like to be informed more about the history of LGBT+ representation.

I loved reading this book! I think it's very positive and uplifting and informative. I think the illustrations match the tone of the book and will engage children and young people. A great resource for all and I hope to include books such as this in my teaching to create a more inclusive classroom :)

This is the second book by this group I've read and I think they do great work! This is a picture book explaining a brief history of each flag of the LGBTQ+ community, who created it, what the colors mean, etc. The illustrations are really nice and vibrant .

Thank you to netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of “The Big Book of Pride Flags”. This is not sponsored and all opinions are my own.

This book gave an overall of the many different pride flags that exist. For each flag, they included a photo of it, the historical context surrounding it, and explained who it represented.

I really enjoyed the visuals and the graphics! It was very cute and reader friendly; would be a great book for a child to read.

cute wee book, that is very much suitable for a younger audience. it's colourful and appealing, with a use of language that is accessible without being condescending.

It covers the most common pride flags, which I think makes it slightly redundant for those that have been involved in the lgbtqia+ community for a while, but a great introduction for the young or those who've only recently found an interest in learning more.

the art is also very nice and inclusive of a variety of peoples. the person on the nonbinary flag page is definitely goals.

if I had to be specifically critical I would mention that the layout is a tad odd on an ereader, expecially on the "history of the pride flag" spread page, and this part of the book is repeating what was already said on the first few pages

A nice book with all the options in the LGBTIQ+ community. Lots of colourful drawings make it more accessacble for young people, who do not like large amounts of texts.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an eARC of this title in exchange for my honest review.

Me when I read the synopsis:

For the past couple of years during pride month, I have made done a series of Instagram posts about the history of each pride flag and the meaning of the colors used. So, I literally flew out of my seat when I saw this pop up.

The illustrations are amazing, bright, and full of colors. I think there is a perfect amount of information that would be easy for children or anyone to learn about. (Even though, I would love more info or facts on each flag, but I have already researched the flags so *smiles in gay*.)

The Big Book of Pride Flags is an adorable picture book that explains all the pride flags and the meaning behind the colours. It is beautifully illustrated and I loved it.

A brilliant, accessible overview of the pride flags. As a 33 year old member of the LGBTQ+ community, even I learnt things from this book!

This is such a wonderful picture book about the different queer flags! I feel like everyone, and I mean EVERYONE can learn something new about the LGBTQIA+ flags and the queer community thanks to this little book with a big and full of heart message.

In regards to the text itself, I'll say that I found it quite accessible for younger readers, which is fantastic. The different definitions and explanations offered throughout the book are easily understandable and generally inclusive, which is always important, especially in a book that is mostly targeted at kids. I will say that I would adjust some parts of the text to make them even more inclusive, though.

The reading guide was a nice surprise and something that complements the rest of the book really well, in my opinion, inviting the reader to keep learning beyond what they have just read.

As for the illustrations, they were an absolute delight! I feel like they truly reflected how diverse the queer community is by showcasing people from a wide range of backgrounds. The art style was adorable, super colourful and captured the values of the book, so 10/10.

Overall, I think The Big Book of Pride Flags is an incredible, diverse and inclusive picture book that helps educate not only younger readers, but everyone about the LGBTQIA+ community. This is definitely a good starting point to learn more about queer folks and our history, despite some flaws regarding some lack of inclusivity in the text.

This book is a sweet way to introduce kids to pride flags, LGBTQ+ history, and different identities. It's informative and uses language that would be easy for young kids to understand. I think this book could have been more well researched, though. Several of the flags have controversies behind them and have large groups of people asking for them not to be used. (For instance, many people in the intersex community have asked not to be included in the LGBTQ community, and many trans and people of color feel that the progress pride flag is performative, since those groups were always meant to be a part of the community.) Even if those flags were still included, it may have been good to recognize people who don't love the use of them.
Still, I loved the art and diversity in this book.

This is a wonderfully illustrated book showing the different pride flags in all their glory, complete with short descriptions of the origins of each flag and who they represent. I would have liked more detail about the identities they represent, as I know many students in my library who will have more questions than answers, but it's perfect for readers who already have some understanding of LGBTQ+ identities..

I am always looking for new ways to be educated on different topics; especially ones I am included in. This book was fun and easy to read. It makes me so happy that this is what children's books have become- I wish I had this when I was younger.
