I really had a fun time with this book the writing was fun and engaging the characters were flushed out my only issue with the book was some plot points just didn’t work for me. This story follows Vika a young woman from the wrong planet who dreams of moving the land of the rich and leisure and leave working for no money behind. When a rich billionaire dies and his will comes out Vika learns that he put in an a stipulation that his estranged son must marry Vika to inherit his fortune. Vika barely new the billionaire but had never met her fiancé while waiting for him to arrive news of an accident leaves Vika a widow before she even met her fiancé. When the heirs of the fortune decide to invite Vika to live with them in the rich city Vika starts to question what caused the accident and realizes that things may not be what they seem. This was such an interesting dystopian novel and I could not put this book down . My one issue with the book was their were some things in the plot that seemed like they wouldn’t be possible and that really pulled me out of the story when that storyline came up. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
The characters are alarmingly juvenile and there's a painfully obvious mystery, but it's actually weirdly cute so it earned back a star.
3/5 Stars
This was just a very average book for me. Everything was just okay. I felt like this story lacked twists and suspense. It was a little underwhelming. Like I said before it was pretty average. It was very quick and easy to read so that's always a plus.
Disclaimer: I initially finished this book back on December 26th, 2021. Well before it’s release date and I still managed to never review it out of the past few years being some of the craziest in my life. I will do my best to review the book based on my memories of it anyway.
Musings:
I remember someone from Netgalley reached out to me about reading this book on my birthday that December in 2021 and I was so excited. The book looked beautiful and it looked like a book I’d love to read. Low and behold that would end up being correct. I remember flying through this book and not wanting to put it down.
At that point I thought I had become myself again and reviewing this now I know I had been fairly wrong. Better late then never I suppose.
The idea that Vika must marry the son of the benefactor she’s been supported by the majority of their life in order for them both to lay claim to any of their inheritance was fun. The journey for her to meet the man was full of problems along the way. So so so many problems.
The twist in this book is pretty simple and yet I remember myself being very heavily invested in it. It definitely gives romantic comedy high jinks in a futuristic setting with high stakes craziness.
Lying about who you are to get to know someone better before you marry them isn’t a smart way to go about things, but it is a fun way to go about things and that’s what this book does.
All in all:
I remember how much I enjoyed this book and I am quite fond of the journey it took. To remember that feeling of wanting to devour it and to know what happens next is a testament to what great fun this book was to read. I hope you give it a chance and pick this up for yourself.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was action-packed and intriguing, full of twists and turns that always kept me guessing. The characters were well-written and deeply human, which made them deeply likable. Their world was stunningly done and fun to follow. Overall, an enjoyable story that I strongly enjoyed. 5/5 stars from me.
This was an okay read. It didn't really grab my attention like I was hoping. The main character was unlikable and the plot was predictable.
In The Stars Between Us, Cristin Terrill crafts a futuristic story with amazing world building. Vika Hale, poor bartender, is summoned to the sister planet of Ploutos to hear the reading of a will. A benefactor whose death is suspicious has included her in his Will. Vika ignores warning bells and begins adapting to her new high society lifestyle. But if she wants to keep her new found wealth, she needs to find a husband.
This story is intriguing, and I found the fast paced action to be riveting. The enemies-to-lovers thread is an added attraction. The only thing I struggled a bit with is making a real connection to Vika who remained aloof to me. I enjoyed the interaction between her and Sky, but needed to feel more empathy for this heroine.
Those who enjoy unique world building and enemies-to-lovers romance should enjoy this one.
This was the first book I read by Cristin Terrill. It seems like a great book for a younger reader wanting to experience the sci-fi genre. There wasn't a real good plot and the twists were expected. All in all it wasn't the book for me.
Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. As I am my own person, all the above opinions are my own.
The Stars Between is an entertaining, fast-paced adventure. It gives enough worldbuilding to keep you satisfied. The author paints a picture of how wealth can change a person and how someone might be willing to give it all up. The twist at the end made it a much better story than I expected.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
I was really bored with the beginning of this book, to the point where I would actively avoid reading with other tasks/hobbies. I couldn't force myself to keep reading something that I wasn't enjoying. I will probably try it out again in the future with the audiobook if my library gets it, because I've loved this author's other books so much.
I absolutely loved this book! At first I wasn't sure about it, because the main character was a bit unlikeable at first, but she really grew on me, and as the story went on, I liked her more and more. I also really liked the sci-fi, space setting of the book. The story was fantastic, it took several different turns that I wasn't expecting. Just about every time I thought I had it figured out, something would happen and blow my theories away. I really liked how this felt like a blend of several different genres, that made the story feel unique and different. Not like other things that I have read. I'm normally a fantasy reader, but I really enjoyed this one. There was some great banter between characters, and the characters were unique and compelling. I would absolutely read another book set in this universe!
The story begins with Vika working as a bartender. She and her sister have many chances others do not, she has a secret benefactor that has been providing for her and her family since a young age. When the story begins, she is told she has been hand-picked to marry the son of her benefactor, a man she has never met. She has to decide if she wants to marry a billionaire she has never met, or turn down his offer and live a life she chooses.
Her benefactor dies, shortly after his son dies. The caregivers inherit the home and huge sum of money. They invite Vika to live with them. Things really get strange from there.
I enjoyed the story and the twists and turns Terrill take us on. I have recommended the story to a few of my students as well.
I was given the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
I only read the first two chapters and honestly thought this book wouldn't be worth it in the long haul due to poor character development. I heard her other books are better so I'll give her another chance. However, this book wasn't worth my time and energy.
The Stars Between is an entertaining, fast-paced adventure.
The heroine Vika lives on a poor planet Philomenus and she and her family are barely getting by. Then she learns that a famous billionaire has died and his son will only inherit the family fortune if he marries Vika. She's only just beginning to deal with her new reality when the son, Leo, is killed in a spaceship explosion and her good fortune seems to have evaporated. But the new heirs bring her to live with them on the wealthy neighboring planet. She quickly acclimates to her new high-society lifestyle, but she begins to think that Leo's death may have not been an accident.
The book does a great job in showing the disparity between the two planets, Ploutos and Philomenus. Ploutos is very much the home of the 1%, while Ploutos suffers from poverty. The Philomeni Liberation Front tries to provide food and money to the needy, but they're persecuted by the police for doing so. Wealth is shown as a corrupting influence. When Vika first moves Ploutos and receives a generous allowance, she almost forgets how her family is struggling back on Philomenus. And one of her mentors becomes almost a different person after inheriting the fortune.
Parts of the plot are a bit predictable, but this didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story. It's really the how, who, and why that matter, and not the what.
This was a fun YA sci-fi read that whisked me away to a different planet. However, the plot was predictable. Vika’s character development could have been stronger. Overall, I still enjoyed it and the world building was beautiful.
I struggled with this one. The whole story revolves around what happens when a person does nothing to deserve all that the world is giving them, especially wealth, and acts broody and snobbish about it. She attends fancy parties while bemoaning the fact that all of this has been forced on her. It didn't make for a character I wanted to hang out with or even sympathize with. Vika was definitely what brought this book down for me. Had it been another MC, for instance someone like Ariel, I think I would've enjoyed it much more.
This was a fun mystery. I see the entertainment factor. However I have found that YA books in this genre don't do enough for me.
This is the perfect balance of glamour and sci-fi! I loved this book and recommend it to everyone who likes rags to riches, life-altering threats, and a mysterious boy who can help her find answers before everything unravels.
This book had all sorts of twists and turns and I just barely figured it out before it all was revealed and still only got part of it! Great story!
