The Fox & Little Tanuki is an adorable manga great for all kinds of readers. Using styles that feel classic but also entirely fresh, this is a great book for the whole family and also adult readers.

I love this series so much, it was so great to be back with Senzou, Manpachi and the rest of the gang!

This volume was a lot darker and delved a lot more into Senzou’s past which was great. I was waiting to find out more about the mysterious Black Fox— I just wish this hadn’t ended on a cliffhanger! I need the next volume!!

As always, the art was fantastic and fun and the entire storyline was magnetic and kept me enthralled until the final page. I can’t wait for volume 5!

5/5⭐️

The Fox & Little Tanuki is such a great series and this fourth part deepens the story and Senzou's past. In this part Senzou begins to remember his past that he's suppressed and how Manpachi isn't the first Manpachi at all. I really liked Senzou's past and how it alters Senzou even in this time. The characters evolve and we get to understand them better and Tagawa uses time to move the story, which is great. There are cute and scary moments in it and in a sense this feels beautifully mundane and magical at the same time. I also love the relationships that are multifaceted and full of heart. This series is surely one of the best about Japanese cultural mythology.

The art is wonderful once again and Tagawa's style is lively and the characters have facial expressions. It's awesome and hard to do, since we are talking about animals and monsters here. I'd love to have the series in color though, since this would look so good with watercolors for example. The pace is perfect and this is so full of feeling that it makes your heart flutter no matter what.

This manga seems to center around Bakemonos, creatures of power that come from the combined feelings of ordinary animals like them before.

Our two central characters, Senzou and Manpachi, seem to have been connected in a previous life, but Senzou can only remember bits and pieces and Manpachi doesn't remember anything (or it isn't noted).

As Senzou's memory comes back his emotions are unstable and the other Bakemonos have to try to keep him in check so he doesn't hurt anyone. Manpachi and Koyuki do their best to draw him back to himself.

The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger with a major twist in the story.

I liked the art style of this piece a lot and the humor injected in to the more serious story. I was somewhat confused about the back and forth between human and animal and the inconsistencies there.
