I enjoyed this fast read despite flat characters, predictable twists, and plot holes. I think the writing was just so good it kept pulling me back in. This book really needs some work though.

Wow! This book was absolutely fantastic. I was drawn in from the start and didn’t stop until I was done. Can not wait for more by author.

If I could rename "The New Girl" by Ruth Heard, I would call it "Girl!; Wake Up and Smell The Coffee!!

My goodness! This was a crazy ride along with the main character Sophie Williams. She gets her " job of a lifetime" in London, working for a "up and coming" advertising agency. The job comes with a fully furnished flat, all bills paid and even her clothes are paid for. This "dream" company loans her the money to pay off her personal debts and gives her all of these perks when she has very little work experience? Well, sign me up people! If it sounds too good to be true, do you believe it anyway? Our protagonist Sophie believes it until strange events start happening to her and she finally suspects things may not be as the appear.

Yes! I read every single page of this "stretchy" story and enjoyed it! The storyline has holes in it, but the writing style was so good I just kept on turning the pages. It somehow sucked me in. I am conflicted if this is a 3 or a 4 star book, but it's the holidays and I'm feeling generous so.....
4⭐⭐⭐⭐ it is!

Sophie is dying to leave her old life behind in small town, put her marketing degree to actual use, and move to London. Despite having no experience, she landed a dream job that comes with a free huge apartment and her work even pays for the sheets and curtains that she purchased, all part of perk of working there. Now what could be strong.

I thought the characters were quite flat in the story, and one- dimensional, and Sophie was very dim, ignoring all the signs, and acting clueless. The storyline was also predictable, a few chapters in, I already could guess who's bad news.

I always enjoy Ruth Heald novels and have read most of them. I equate them with a great episode of Law and Order. Unsure what to watch from hundreds of shows you choose Law and Order as you are guaranteed an interesting plot, devious characters and a satisfying climax. Here, we have Sophie, a you g woman who is a little naive (necessary for the plot of course) accepting her dream job in London in a hip marketing company run by three charismatic people. Against the better judgement of friends and family Sophie feels the opportunity gives her the chance to move on from a recent traumatic event that will follow her to London. The first three quarters is five stars and the last section left me wanting a little more development before the twist.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this advance copy of The New Girl.

Hmmm... where do I start? I suppose I should preface with with the fact that I had to take a couple of days after finishing this book because the ending left me so conflicted.

I loved - LOVED - this book up until about 40%. And when I say 'loved' I mean I literally could not stop reading it. But then, toward the middle and just after I kind of predicated everything that was going to happen. And when I say 'predicated' I mean it wasn't really hard to guess and I truly HATE when this happens. I love a good twist. I can almost hate a book, but if I get a killer twist in the last 25% then it's a 5 Star for me. But this book lacked that. Toward the last third I knew what was happening, I knew who was who and, frankly, I thought the MC Sophie was unrealistically naive for not realising.

The ending was far-fetched and rushed and the epilogue lacked that WOW factor I've come to love with with the thrillers I read.

Also, there were a lot of typos and errors. Like, when James tells Sophie about his crazy ex-girlfriend and Sophie is all shocked to find out he has a crazy ex-girlfriend... I'm like, eh? He literally told you about this 5-6 chapters ago.

The pacing and the suspense written in this story is of the highest standard. I love a book that makes my heart race along with the character's on the pages. All in all, I enjoyed the writing of this first time (for me) author enough that I have already jumped into another of Ruth's thrillers, and it's just as captivating.

3 stars.

Sophie feels ready to put her past behind her and decides to move to London in the hopes of finding a job. And as luck would have it, she's offered her dream job at a small family-owned marketing company. Not only would she be paid well, but she'll be given free accommodation at the company's luxurious flats. It's a no brainer to say yes, and within days, Sophie moves into the flat. She quickly immerses herself in her new job, making friends and there's even a potential romance with her handsome co worker.
Sophie is living the dream, or is she? Is Sophie's new life a bit too good to be true?

I loved The Wedding by Ruth Heald, so when I saw she had a new book coming out, I jumped at the chance to read it. The synopsis caught my eye as well. I just love storylines where the main character moves into a new house or apartment and bizarre things start happening. For those two reasons, I was pretty excited to read this book and I was not disappointed. The story flowed really well. Plenty of suspense and shady characters to keep you on the edge of your seat. You can't help but feel a sense of foreboding for Sophie who has already been through so much and seems to have walked right into a dangerous trap.
A really gripping read.

The New Girl focuses on Sophie, who, after a breakup, moves to London to further her career. While her new job seems perfect (lots of clients, free rent, friendly co-workers), the reader (at least for me) realizes that something is off. The job and the co-workers definitely gave off a "cult-like"/creepy vibe. I found myself wanting to know more about the company and secrets that Cassie, James, and Max were clearly hiding. While I enjoyed much of the book (because I wanted to find out more about these characters and their secrets), I did not find the ending satisfying. In addition to feeling rushed, the way both Sophie's and the other characters' pasts came together felt very unrealistic. Because of the distaste I had after the ending, I can only give this book three stars.

Such diabolical twists in this one! Sophie has moved to London to start a new life. She's trying to leave her past behind and build her future in the advertising field. She goes to work for a company and makes friends quickly. Then some strange things start happening at her apartment (furnished by the company) and she has some gaps in her memory. Her ex seems to be stalking her. A girl who had her job before contacts her and gives her a warning about the company she is working for and something going on there. Sophie doesn't know who to trust. And as a reader, neither did I! Sophie is definitely not too sharp when it comes to relationships. She seems to ignore some strong warning signs. Lots of tension in this book. Very well written and well plotted. I enjoyed it.

I do love a book by this author, she really delivers. The story was very well developed and the twists and turns never saw some of them coming; so all in all the book delivers.

The story initially sounds far fetched but once you get into it, it really does work.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

I love a good thriller, and this one did not disappoint! From the first pages, I was hooked into the story. Lots of suspense and mystery and psychological mind-bending. You’ll think you have it figured out but then the author takes you down another tense and dramatic path. The end is shocking in all the best ways, just as every good thriller should be!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.

Too Many Secrets…
A dream job? Maybe not everything is quite as it seems. After all, there are too many secrets for things to be completely perfect. Aren’t there? With a credible cast of characters, an immersive storyline and an intriguing premise this is a fast moving psychological suspense which grips from the off and proceeds at pace to the delicious and, perhaps, unexpected denouement. A tense and enjoyable one sit read.

Sophie is delighted to get a fresh start and move to London for her dream job with accommodation provided. She puts everything into her work, determined to prove herself. She also becomes part of the social life of the office and also gets closer to one of the men from work. However, things start to go wrong when Sophie hears strange noises and feels like she is being watched. Then a girl arrives at her door, warning her about her new life. Could Sophie's past be connected to her new life? And could she be in danger?

Another brilliant book from Ruth Heald. The plot was thrilling, tense and gripping and I couldn't stop reading until I reached the shocking ending. The twists and turns were fantastic. Recommended!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

This is a dark and twisted story about a girl trying to move on from a traumatic event in her past. Leaving behind a boyfriend and life she didn’t want she moves to London for her dream job but nothing is as it seems and can she really trust her new employers when they seem to good to be true and as the police come knocking regarding her past she starts to get the feeling someone is watching her.

“The New Girl” is a thriller book by Ruth Heald. This book follows Sophie, who moves to London for a dream job but, unfortunately, as the saying goes “when something looks too good to be true, it usually is” rings very true for Sophie’s situation. There are some twists, turns, oddities, pasts, secrets, weirdness, and some “saw that coming” moments in this book - but it’s a quick and enjoyable read that held my attention. Sophie is a bit too naive at times, though (for instance something has happened and she thinks that the person who got her into that situation will now be her saviour). I found the epilogue a bit odd regarding a six-month later wrapping up, but it worked for closure, I guess. For a fun ride, I do recommend this book - it’s quick, it’s interesting, and it did hold my attention.
