When the ultimate weapon is stolen, the theives must be found and the weapon returned. The consquences are too disasterous to consider. The story has some clear divisions between the good guys and the bad guys that quickly become not so clear. The tension begins early and builds with each failed attempt at capturing the "wolf". Harrison Taylor built a world one step away from apocalypse and populated it with characters that push and pull until you're holding your breath at the end. Excellent thriller. 5 easy stars.
I really wanted to like this story and gave it a real chance but at 70% of this. I gave up. The Author has a knack for great dialogues and some very good action scenes. The characters are also interresting but the execution of the story failed badly for me. Chapter titles are deceptive and you sometime get lost as to when a scene is happening. The chapter says 2008 but it takes place in the present and the next paragraph is in the past. With a better editor, i feel this could have been a 5 star book.
Those who Hunt Wolves is a great political thriller with a large cast of enigmatic characters with plenty of twists and turns. How does one find the wolf when it could be your most trusted friend, co-worker a foreign spy. All the wolves are out to play can our MC’s find the right one when you have no idea who to trust! If you like political intrigue give it a try.
Political Thriller
The hunt for Blackout – a missing U.S. secret weapon. This book had a bit of everything – super soldiers, stereotypical mafia types, crooked politicians, movie-worthy action scenes and a bit of science fiction. Too bad this story was not a bit more concentrated on a few of these issues – this would have made for a more powerful read. I received an ARC of this novel from NetGalley, and the opinions expressed are my own.
Those Who Hunt Wolves caught my eye with its unique offerings. Genetically enhanced soldiers, corrupt financial institution behind the most powerful heads of states, and a vengeful batch of mysterious characters on a mission to expose a dark conspiracy. The book lives up to its promise, and then some.
An unconventional thriller surely, but one that’s written with the supreme confidence and finesse of a skilled writer who knows how to keep the reader captivated without fail. Harrison Taylor expertly juggles numerous concepts from political intrigue to science-fiction. The narrative flows smoothly and purposefully through the pages, ensuring no sentence is wasted. Powerful dialogues build unforgettable characters, and jaw-dropping twists keep your mind running to calculate all the possibilities.
Adding sweet cherry on top, Harrison Taylor delivers some stupendous action sequences that pack the right punch for super-powered characters battling to the death in awe-inspiring scenes of gruesome combat. Taking advantage of the science-fiction angle, the author introduces cool weaponry and gadgets that elicit an audible WOAH when you read them in action. More importantly, the action is fueled by emotional ammunition to deliver a truly impactful cinematic sequence.
Those Who Hunt Wolves is incontestably one of the top choices for the break-out thriller of 2022. As hard as I tried to read it at a casual pace, the charm of this neo-noir thriller had me laser-focused on it and nothing besides it. Full disclaimer: the femme fatale is disturbing enough to keep you up a few nights afterwards. That’s how you write a deeply sinister character.
