Definitely a cookbook to learn to cook authentic Mexican food. I am not an expert on Mexican food other than to say I love it. While all of the recipes are not “101 Mexican cooking” types, it seems to contain a nice mix of both moderately easy and some that are more in-depth.

I loved this book because it had all of the elements that are important to me in a good cookbook; in a cookbook you are willing to buy in today’s world of online recipes. This is a teaching book. It’s easy to read and has beautiful illustrations. More importantly, in Mi Cocina, Martinez really and truly teaches us how to make the basics, the underlying recipes from which all other dishes are created. Under all of this cooking fun and learning lies a little bit of a history lesson too. I learned about regional tastes, foods used, and why they are popular in some areas. I learned enough to move over to my computer and look up something on the history of various locations in Mexico.
This is my kind of cookbook. Not just a cookbook, but a book of the culture of its country. Truly regional cooking accompanied by beautiful pictures. The type of cookbook to keep on your shelf.

Mi Cocina is a must-add for your library collection. You can definitely see the author's dedication to this cookbook: using authentic recipe names (rather than "americanizing" the name) to honor his Mexican heritage and culture, thoughtful ingredient measurement additions to the recipes (mostly for Americans, we need it) and, oh my, those vivid pictures. Personally I am going to buy this copy for my own cookbook collection!

I've been a fan of Rick Martinez from his Bon Appetit days so when I heard he was creating a cookbook I was excited. A nice detail I think he did was have the recipe names in spanish which ties into his cookbook theme well. Its a beautiful cookbook.

I love that this book is broken down into different parts of Mexico instead of food types. I will most definitely be making a ton of these recipes!

This cookbook is absolutely stunning. I started following Rick Martinez and his move to Mexico at the beginning of the pandemic on Instagram and it was such a bright spot everyday to look forward to. He has encouraged me to want to travel to Mexico more and try more regional foods. In the meantime, I have this beautiful cookbook to flip through as inspiration and as a way to try more of the Mexican cuisine from my home. I can't wait until i can get my hands on a physical copy of this book.

This cookbook is absolutely stunning! It’s colorful, full of gorgeous photos, and also super informative. The introduction section was perfect for a novice to cooking Mexican cuisine like me. I really appreciated how the author broke down the different peppers and other basics. I have not made any of the recipes yet, but after looking through all the recipes I know that nearly all the recipe ingredients are accessible in my area. I also love how the recipes are sorted by the region they come from and the little extra information snippets the author adds. I will definitely be adding a physical copy of this to my kitchen.

This is a stunning book for anyone interested in learning more about the cultural context behind Mexican cooking. I loved that the chapters are broken down by region rather than category of food. It takes the reader on a culinary tour of the country.
Both the food and travel photography are vibrant and beautiful. Images of the people and land in Mexico give context to the recipes, each of which are illustrated with a photo.
The recipes are fresh and look absolutely delicious. They range in difficulty from simple to complex, this is not necessarily a cookbook for beginners yet it would be a great place to start for exploring authentic Mexican cuisine.
Some recipes, particularly in the seafood category, include ingredients that may be difficult to find in an average grocery store. However, I was relieved to discover that the majority of the recipes could be made with easy and accessible ingredients.

I have loved Rick and his journey on Bon Appetit Kitchen and have loved his life in Mexico. This book gave us a window into his life and pictures of his beautiful home and dog! The recipes are clear, fun and want you to spend time in the kitchen cooking for yourself and loved ones. It's self care in the best way. Also, so glad to have this Rick's recipes and hopefully people will forget about Rick Bayless.

I loved the cover and pictures throughout the book - it is really colourful and vibrant.

The recipes themselves were very meat based and I feel this book is for someone who is an experienced cook.

It was interesting learning about the food and culture.

Thank you for the arc.

Rick’s new cookbook is a great addition to anyone's cookbook collection. The selection of recipes found within this Mexican cookbook is vastly different than what you will see in mainstream Mexican cookbooks. These recipes are exciting and are a refreshing change to the usual fare that is marketed to the public today. I'm eager to learn about these new ingredients and excited to try some new recipes that quite honestly I would have never discovered on my own. Thanks, Rick!

Beautiful cookbook with some mouth watering recipes. It's divided by regions in Mexico and there's a lot more than the typical Mexican recipes we see in America. Besides the recipes, there's a bit of the story and culture of each region. It's a very good cookbook and I would try almost all the recipes here. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Mi Cocina is a beautiful cookbook with with great photography and an even better story - it feels like Rick is being unapologetically himself as he discovers more about his culture and it’s cuisine. He has included 104 of his favourite recipes from his 2-year trip across Mexico, organized by 6 regions and Mexican kitchen staples.

These recipes range from simple ingredients and methods to more unique foods and complicated techniques, and I believe that every home cook would find something in here for them. I personally loved some of the staple recipes (arroz rojo and the fresh salsa tatemada) and can’t wait to try many, many of them.

This might be my new favorite cookbook! The writing and photography are absolutely stunning, and I love how connected I felt to the regional cultures and varieties of food in each that were shown through this book. I cant wait to try more of the recipes. I started with the pollo al pastor, and I think it is going to become one of my staples.

Such a beautiful book. I watch Rick's Youtube videos from back in the Bon Appetit days and mexican cuisine was always a favourite in our house so we looooved all his recipes. Really enjoyed this and will be trying out as many of these as possible!

Wow, what a stunning book! The photographer, the travelogue descriptions, the food descriptions left me fired up to get cooking. The recipes in the book were interesting and didn’t seem too watered down for a cookbook but also seemed accessible and realistic. For example, Martinez gives his readers instructions for homemade tortillas as the gold standard but also gives us tips on making store-bought tortillas a little tastier. I learned about tons of dishes, techniques and ingredients as well as history and culture I didn’t know before.

Mi Cocina by Rick Martinez is one of the most beautiful cookbooks I’ve seen in a long time! I loved hearing his stories and the photographs in this book are stunning. I can’t wait to try all the recipes, although I have a feeling some ingredients may be hard to find where I live.
I highly recommend adding this to your shelf! I know I will be getting a physical copy for myself and can’t wait to start trying these delicious, authentic recipes.
