This was a really enjoyable read. Action packed, a few surprises, intrigue. It's been a bit since I've read a thriller like this. I've mostly been stuck in the psychological thriller type books. And this was a nice change of pace. Usually with this type of story, I tend to get a bit lost and not understand the big picture. But this wasn't like that at all. Everything was well explained and described and I didn't have to make connections for myself and feel dumb because I couldn't. This author did a fantastic job of taking me where he wanted me to go, leaving me there with all the pieces, and making sure I understood what was happening before moving on.

While this subject matter is not appropriate for my young elementary students, I will suggest it to my school librarian and book clubs. It was a great suspense thriller.

The Father's Son, was a suspenseful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from pay one to the conclusion. This book is filled with twists and turns that you will not anticipate coming. I felt extremely emotional reading as the main character suffered a traumatic event at a very young age.

Andrew was only 7 years old when he watched his Dad be led out of their home by a pack of gunmen. Andrew was left questioning what happened and why for most of his childhood. Now, 20 years later, Andrew is married and has a little boy himself. Finally, Andrew can be at peace .

Not so fast.

The past has come back to haunt Andrew and its Andrews turn to fight back. He has everything to lose and will stop at nothing to prevent history from repeating itself.

This is a story you will think about long after concluding. I found myself retelling what had happened to my husband. Now, my husband is not a reader but he was vested and wanted to know what happened. I told him he had to pick the book up to find out for himself! Well, it was a success! Five stars from both of us!

Quite an involved read with lots of ups and downs. I enjoyed the layers of tension the authors builds, until they all come to climax. Admittedly, I was confused by some of the story tangents, bit ultimately it did add up to a cohesive read.

I received an email from Peter McPhie advising me that as I had enjoyed his previous book (Good Man Gone) his new book (The Father’s Son) was available and would I like to read it. I am so glad I did.

We are first introduced to Andrew Locke as a child when his father is abducted by some men, one of which wears a mask over his head to conceal his identity. His father is never found and Andrew becomes the State’s responsibility, not without some problems. Eventually Andrew becomes an FBI agent with specialist skills and he is chosen for a particular, secret mission. This mission requires him to move house with his wife and his young son and work alone with only one contact – his very senior FBI supervisor/manager. Andrew’s brief is complex and dangerous, and he has serious concerns about the safety of his family – for Andrew raised without a family, he is haunted by thoughts of his father and the mystery surrounding the masked man.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is intelligent, well-written and well-structured. I loved Andrew and thought the dialogue plausible and sophisticated, more literary than some ‘spy’ novels.

Many people have been observed doing things that they would prefer not to have out in the open are being black mailed for life. Andrew will seek out clues to uncover the people responsible. The past will return tying the present together with clues that lead back to Andrew's father kidnapping.
