Modern Beauty and the Beast

By the Book by Jasmine Guillory is a charming and heartwarming retelling of Beauty and the Beast that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance and fairy tale re-imaginings. Its well-drawn characters, engaging themes, and witty writing make it a worthwhile addition to any romance reader's bookshelf.

3-3.5/5 stars.
It was a perfectly cute and imaginative retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed the main characters but felt still like there was something lacking in their depth. I also didn’t care for the ending. It just felt too rushed.

I’ve read so many of Jasmine’s books and always love how different they feel to other contemporary romances. Which is saying a lot because i love the romances I read that are but more colloquial. But this one had a signature charm and fun thoughtful characters. I like to rate based of enjoyment and this one was a little hard to get through in the usual time that I spend on reading. Overall, always great writing and fun story.

This was such a cute romantic read. Jasmine Guillory really is able to pull on heartstrings. Her characters are always unique so I can tell when I am reading a book by her. Thank you for this copy, sorry for the late review.

Thank you to Netgalley and Hyperion Avenue.
I ultimately really enjoyed By the Book, but I kept wanting "more" while reading -- more tension, more sex, more character development and background, etc. That said, I really loved Izzy's internal monologue, but some parts seemed to drag, especially in the middle.

A fun romp and I always enjoy a good book about books and the people who love them. There could have been a little more character building, but it was fun anyway!

Loved this take on Beauty and the Beast, maybe even as much as the original movie. It was so sweet and charming, with a fresh voice brought to the story.

This was such a fun read! I loved the Beauty & the Beast references. They were so cute without being over the top. And hello, talk about a slow burn!!! I couldn't wait for these two to admit their feelings for each other! When they finally did, WOO it was great. Overall, this was a super sweet book that I really enjoyed reading.

A must-read for any Beauty and the Beast fan. It was a very cute retelling with lots of book and publishing things thrown in. The slow burn element to this romance was a bit too slow in my opinion. I wanted them to realize their feelings a lot sooner. The character development was incredible though. I just loved all the bookish references.

Jasmine Guillory is always a must read for me and I’m glad I didn’t miss this one! I knew it would be right up my alley when I saw it was a modern twist on Beauty and the Beast. I’m excited to read the other books in this series! Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

If you were looking for a book that has banter has characters quite like each other in the beginning, but really fall for each other in a realistic way. This is the book for you. I found it to be well written, and I really did enjoy how the plot flowed throughout the book.

Another fun read from my one of my all-time favorite romance novelists - you just can't ever go wrong with Jasmine Guillory!!

I am a librarian which means I was a pretty bookish child, which also means that I grew up loving Beauty and the Beast. Belle was, after all, the book-girl princess. So I was so excited for this book from a romance author I love. It is enemies to lovers, based on a fairy tale, and a rom-com -- these are things I love. So of course I really liked this book. Izzy is a likable and relatable protagonist and Beau is broody and tortured but certainly less dramatic than the actual beast. This is a fun romance story without too much spice. Fans of Jasmine Guillory will be very satisfied.

So cute!! I was living for these two! I love a book set within the publishing industry and By the Book did not miss. Beau had some really great character development (that let’s be real, is kind of swoon-worthy). A truly modernized Beauty and the Beast retelling.

This was another fun, swoony, romantic entry in the Guillory universe. A perfect fun read—can't wait for more!

I am a huge Jasmine Guillory fan but I'm also a mood reader so I wasn't really in the mood for a romance/rom com when I started but I was so happy I did by the end. With both subltle and pretty on the nose Beauty and the Beast references woven throughout, it's still the best of what Jasmine Guillory does with a love story. I was rooting for the characters and I got my HEA without the eye roll that sometimes accompanies it for being too tidy and too predictable.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion Avenue for the opportunity to read the book. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

4 out of 4 stars!

Jasmine Guillory has solidified herself as the RomCom queen, and I will continue to read everything she puts out. Loved this book, and the chemistry between the characters. She had me hooked from the first page.

Thank you, NetGalley, and Hyperion Avenue for the ARC. By the Book by Jasmine Guillory was a fun modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The author did a nice job adapting the classic fairy tale to the current world. A cute, easy read, I would recommend to anyone who can’t resist a HEA!

By the Book had me so excited as I was thrilled to read a beauty and the beast retelling. The beginning was strong, but about 25% in, the story started to lose by interest. I can't put my finger on what was missing...maybe tension?

In the past Jasmine Guillory has always been a five-star author for me and thankfully she continues to be.

Thanks to NetGalley / Edelweiss and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for a review.
