I'm starting backwards here. But I've checked and I can read book one and two on Kindle Unlimited. Thank goodness because after reading Storm Rising book three, I need to start from the beginning.
Storm Rising is a fast-paced thriller it will keep you turning pages far into the night. Chris Hauty, I absolutely love your writing style, and can't wait to read more of your work.
Excellent character development, with extremely visual writing.
The characters are very believable as is the plot. It is complex and has some brilliant twists and turns in it. And this ending is amazing!
A well crafted political thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I'm so thrilled to continue reading Hayley Chill's story from the beginning and can't wait to start this series from.the beginning.
Just know if you've read book one and two.... Book three was freaking phenomenal!
I couldn't put my Kindle down for more than an hour at a time!
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Atria/Emily Bestler Books,

I will post my review to my platforms, blog, B&N and Waterstone closer to pub date.

ARC Book Review – After author Chris Hauty’s first two thrillers, “Deep State” and “Savage Road”, I nicknamed him “Twisty Chris.” Well, after reading an Advance Reader’s Copy (ARC) of his third thriller, “Storm Rising”, the ‘Master of Epic Twists’ has struck again! With this latest in the Hayley Chill series, Hauty has solidified a spot on my ‘preorder purchase before reading list.’ Three books into the series he is proving to be the master of unexpected twists in the thriller genre. He once again ups the game in Storm Rising, providing an all too real story along with further developing his deep state protagonist, Hayley Chill as a person. And just like the two other books and the short story “Resurrection”, there are plenty of jaw dropping moments that makes the reader keep reading, moments that makes the reader pause and think, and moments that makes the reader consistently go, Wow! In investigating the fate of her father, Chill uncovers evidence of white supremacy in the military. She discovers a terrifying plan where several states calling themselves the Free States of America are planning to separate themselves from the United States, which may consequently lead to a second Civil War. In steps Haley Chill to intervene and this is where the story really takes off. Intense. Fast paced. Powerful, Hauty catapults the reader through thrills and chills on just about every page in this action thriller. He does a fantastic job of doling out clues throughout the narrative but keeps the reader guessing with the ‘twist and turns’ until the very end. The book is current affairs recent, well researched and more personal, with a deeper and closer look into the soul of Haley Chill. I also commend Hauty for the insanely brilliant way that he continues to craft and develops the characters in all his novels. This is an unparalleled talent that shouldn’t go unnoticed in the literary business. Another ‘great’ read (5 Stars) and a fascinating series. Thank you, NetGally for the digital advance reader's copy, Emily Bestler Books, Atria Books and author Chris Hauty, for providing me an Advance Reader’s Edition of Storm Rising out on May 3, 2022.

This my second book from this author and I hope they keep writing. This is a continuation of a story that was left on sort of a cliffhanger last book and we keep learning more about Hayley Chill and her quest to learn more about her dad. Hayley was under the impression her father died years before only to find him dead at the start of the book. She keeps pushing all the way to the top of the conspiracy. Some of the books stretches believability but I had no problem with it as it propels the story along. I really like this series and hope for many more. Hayley Chill is pretty badass and I want to see where she goes after the ending of this book. It is nonstop action and the author keeps pushing the pace until the end. Well done.

Chris Hauty’s next installment of the Hayley Chill series is outstanding. I find the character and the plot of Storm Rising, and the other books in the series, to be original. I also love the writing style because it always feels like the story is accelerating. Preorder a copy of is Storm Rising (releases May 3rd) and if you haven’t read Deep State and/or Savage Road check those out while you wait.

It read like something that could happen today. I recommend it for people who like twisted plots where you don't know what its going to happen next.

This was a weird one. To start, it should be noted that I haven't read the previous books in this series so maybe for someone who had read those they'd have a more positive review. I was immediately thrown off by two things: Present tense and the main character's backstory. Present tense can be an effective strategy when done well. I personally didn't feel like this was a good example of that. My expectation for how present tense can be used are Robert Jackson Bennett's Divine Cities trilogy and Gareth Hanrahan's Black Iron Legacy trilogy. Also the backstory/premise threw me off. I don't want to spoil it but just get ready to hear the phrase "deeper state" a lot. The backstory was very complex especially for the first chapter of a third book in a thriller series.
I did enjoy Hayley, the main character for the most part. She was a cool character and minus the part about her also being an MMA fighter, which almost just felt like too much, she was pretty believable. April is a really cool supporting character (which leads to another thing I didn't like about this book but that's too much of a spoiler to talk about more in a review). Some of the members of the deeper state are interesting as well. The plot as a whole was interesting enough.
This was a weird book and hopefully your mileage varies and you like it more than me. I think it's probably a book that readers searching for maybe a more 'high concept' political/corridors of power thriller in the vein of early Baldacci or Brad Meltzer would probably love.

I loved the first nook in this series- ‘Derp State’. The second book was less stellar, and I was disappointed in this third book in the series. Although the action continues, it is a less developed story on my opinion.
The books still read like they are made for movies, but less engaging as series continues.
