This novel brings back some of the characters from an earlier book, “In an Instant,” in which a family and their friends struggle to survive a devastating car accident in freezing temperatures. The resulting tragedy still haunts Chloe and her friend Mo, but together with their flatmate Hazel they are trying to live good lives and get through. When Hazel becomes the victim of date rape, they are both drawn in and everyhting they care about comes under threat. This is an involving story about an important type of sexual crime, which is difficult to prosecute as victims have limited memories about what happened and may seem to be consenting when the drug administered causes a lack of resistance.. The characters are likeable and the subject, although dealt with very seriously, is also covered with a lightness of touch. There is humour as well as pain, and hope in the darkest times. There was one act involving Hazel that I found rather disturbing and out of character, that didn’t sit well with the tone of the book, but overall this is an enjoyable read that highlights the importance of friendship and the goodness that is sometimes found in unexpected places.

Thank you to NetGalley, Suzanne Redfearn and Lake Union Publishing for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

I requested this one only because I had heard so many good things about her other novels like Hadley & Grace. I can't wait to go back and read more novels by this author now because this one was so good. It's beautifully written and the female friendships are amazing. I wanted to be a part of this trio. I worried about this one in the beginning, but there is a fair amount of mystery and action throughout and we meet the most interesting people. I would definitely recommend.

TW: This novel could be triggering to survivors of sexual assault.

A single decision or a moment in time can change the course of your life...

Eight years after the most harrowing experience of their lives, Mo and Chloe are living together in San Francisco with their roommate, Hazel. While grabbing a drink at a bar, Mo accepts a call from her boyfriend and walks outside to hear him better. When she returns, she finds that Hazel has left with the guy she met only moments ago. Later that night, Hazel is drugged and sexually assaulted, and the three women's lives are turned upside down. The man who assaulted her is later found drugged and beaten, and Hazel is nowhere to be found. Worried for their friend, Mo and Chloe journey out to find Hazel and bring her home. Will the three friends reunite and face music together? Or is the damage beyond repair?
I devoured this emotional and powerful follow-up to In An Instant. I loved revisiting Chloe and Mo and seeing where their lives took them. My heart broke for Hazel and her story deeply resonated with me. Moment in Time is an important story that needed to be told on behalf of sexual assault survivors everywhere, if only to let them know they are not alone. I highly recommend this story of friendship, survival, and unconditional love.

I love Suzanne Redfearn's novels. The first book in this series, "In an Instant" was a fantastic novel. One of my all time favorite books actually. So I was beyond excited to read this book.

I really enjoyed catching up with Mo and Chloe in "Moment in Time". It was an exciting and emotional read, I had a hard time putting it down. It was nice to see what some of the other characters from "In an Instant" were doing too.
Although it wasn't quite as awesome as the first book in the series, I still thought it was a terrific read.

While I don't think you have to read the first book to enjoy this one, I really suggest you check it out.

I can't wait to read more from this very talented author.

While i loved the first book in this “series” this one didn’t quite have the same magic. I sort of forgot who each character was and though the writer reminds us a few times I didn’t quite feel the connection like I did with In an Instant. The plot follows a group of friends whose one member is raped by a man who basically roofies women and gets away with it. Many coincidences happen to make it seem like someone has harmed the perpetrator when she in fact did not. I just didn’t find the characters all that fun to follow unlike the earlier book. Frankly you could read this as a stand-alone as it really doesn’t have much to do with the first book.

I received an arc of this book not realizing some of the same characters that were in In An Instant were in this book. I went back and read that and couldn't put it down. This book didn't compare to that one but I did enjoy knowing where these characters ended up and enjoyed the strength in Mo and Chloe. I love Suzanne Redfearn's writing style, it flows so easily and the smaller chapters keep pushing the story forward. I like the author's notes at the end as well, it's interesting to hear where she comes up with her book ideas.

This book is very fast paced and sucks you in almost immediately. It had SVU vibes and also kind of read like a YA book.
You don't have to read In an Instant first to understand this one, but I do highly recommend that book!
I love this author and would definitely keep reading and recommending her books.

This was such a powerful book! I feel it hit you with a right hook and just kept punching even though you were down. This is my first book by Ms. Redfearn and I can’t wait to go back and read In an Instant. Although this novel has shared characters, it certainly can more than stand on its own without background knowledge. I appreciated the way the topics of date rape and victim shaming were handled and really enjoyed the story and all the side story nuances. Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Oublishing for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

As an established fan of Suzanne Redfearn, I went in fully expecting to enjoy this one. I loved it! Within the first chapter, I was swept along and hooked. While this can be considered both a "sequel" and a "stand alone". We first met Mo and Chloe in "In an Instant". You don't need to read the first to be swept along by this one, but I would highly recommend them both. They are that good!
An exceptionally worthy read, this one has it all! Well-constructed characters, and a tight and twisty tale. The characters are impulsive, troubled, and naive.

As a huge fan of Suzanne Redfearn's In An Instant, I was thrilled to discover that she had written a sequel. Moment in Time catches us up on Mo and Chloe eight years after their life-altering accident. This novel focuses on roofies and date rape. Mo and Chloe join forces to help their friend, Hazel, manage after such an incident occurs to her. These are tough characters who don't back down from what they believe in. Read and enjoy!

This book begins eight years after the events in In an Instant occurred. In that book there is a terrible, haunting, tragic accident which changed Mo Kaminski’s and Chloe Miller’s lives. Now another terrible event is going to change their lives yet again. The two women share an apartment with their friend, Hazel and their lives are going well until the night, Hazel is drugged and raped. Shortly after, she disappears and the man who sexually assaulted her is found drugged and beaten. Mo and Chloe go searching for their friend, but will they find her? Who attacked her rapist? Will justice be served?

First off, if you have not read In an Instant, you need not worry. This book stands on its own, but if you have read it, you get to see what some of the characters are doing now. Rape is a difficult subject and may be a trigger for some.

I enjoyed this book and found it to be worthwhile but did not feel as invested as I had thought I would. I can't quite put my finger on why. Regardless, this is a solid book, and many are enjoying it more than I did, so please read their reviews as well.

Redfern is such a gifted writer and storyteller. Make sure not to close this book before reading her author's note at the end. I love that she shares with readers what leads her to write what she writes. I always find this to be a nice touch.

I look forward to what she writes next.

I loved this book! The narration on Audible was wonderful and easy to listen to. I DO wish I would have known that there was a book prior to this one ("In an Instant") because there is so much in this book referring to the one before it. I'm sure I would've been even more attached to the characters and story having read it first.

The ONLY criticism I really have for the book is the whole character of the Police Officer could've been removed. It felt unnecessary. I'm also well aware that I'm likely more sensitive to this part of the story due to being a LEO wife knowing how much he cares and is not an a-hole to victims as Gretzky was to Hazel... so there's that.

I truy enjoyed reading this entire story and I WILL be going back to read "In an Instant" eventually because I liked this Author, characters and story THAT much.

I became a fan of Suzanne after reading In an Instant which immediately became one of my favorite books I had read in recent years. I knew it would be a tough act to follow so I was surprised to hear that there would be a continuation of the story. While Moment in Time isn’t quite as impactful as the first, the story is enjoyable and entertaining in its own right. The two can’t really be compared as this story takes a completely different turn, but Suzanne’s captivating writing style is all the same. While slow at times, stick with it as the final third of the book is completely worth it.

Oh Ms. Redfearn, you never fail at writing wonderful books about characters that I wish were real. This follow-up to the stunning novel, “In An Instant”, was just as compelling. It tells the story of Mo, Finn’s best friend and Chloe, Finn’s sister. After Finn tragically died in the accident that was the previous book, Mo and Chloe were left to get on with their lives without her. Chloe has become a veterinarian with a major soft spot for dogs. Maureen has become a journalist that deals only in straight facts. After their friend and roommate is sexually assaulted, it sets off an unbelievable chain of events. As a veterinary professional myself, I found myself relating to Chloe and her soft heart for wayward strays. I appreciated how the author showed the very real problem that veterinary professionals faced every day. The huge amount of work and compassion expended for a life of struggling to pay bills and student loans. Making up for it with the love of a good and loyal animal. Maureen is fixated on earning her late father’s pride for her truth driven journalism. Maureen, unlike Chloe, is in a good spot financially and in her career when their roommate, Hazel, is sexually assaulted while she and Mo are out celebrating Mo’s successful career. As much as I liked Mo, she continuously made one terrible decision after another, endangering herself and her friends in many ways. That part was very difficult to read. At one point, she agrees to meet with her friends’ assailant alone in order to make an insane deal to drop charges falsely brought against her. Good thing everyone else was there to clean up after all of it.
This book needed to be longer. I rarely say that but, as with the last book, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters. I would love to see a book centered around the characters at the Barking Goat restaurant. This is the second of Ms. Redfearn’s books in which we meet them and I’d love to hear more about them.
Every single one of this author’s books are compulsively readable and contain great characters and relatable situations with the added fun of taking place in Orange County, a place with which I’m very familiar. I can’t wait for her next one.

After living through a tragedy as teenagers, Mo and Chloe have a closer than ever bond. As twenty-something adults they now live together along with their roommate, Hazel. While each woman is starkly different from the next, they are always there for each other.

One night while out at a bar, Hazel’s drink is spiked, resulting in a sexual assault. Making a bad situation worse, the girls know who did it, but keep hitting a wall when it comes to finding solid proof. In the meantime, the studious and serious Hazel is forever changed, setting out on a self discovery of sorts. Now it’s up to the girls to face life’s challenges together again, but can they save Hazel from herself and bring the perpetrator to justice before it’s too late?

I did not know going in that this book was a sequel of sorts to Redfearn’s immensely popular, In An Instant. I didn’t read that book, so that might be part of the reason why I didn’t connect with the snippets of backstory or understand their significance in relation to this one. It also features characters from other books she’s written, a true love letter to diehard fans of the author.

But if I’m being honest, despite all this, the book felt a little too all over the place for me. There was the decidedly serious tone of the assault, but this was coupled with career woes, new love, old love and even a stray dog serving as a main character. (The stray, Ruby, was my favorite character by the way, but I digress). It felt like the story kept losing focus, akin to keeping a dog on the path when it’s out for a walk. At times it wasn’t a whodunnit type of page turner, but rather a “what is happening next because I have no idea where this is going!?” type of story. It held my interest, but just like moments themselves, my thoughts on this one are sure to be fleeting in the long run.

I know that the topic of this book is extremely important, but I think I have read it too soon after In an Instant which I thought it was the work of art. Even with knowing the characters and the horrendousness of the things happening in the book, I just couldnt relate to any of it. The authors afterword was amazing and it made me feel bad I didnt like the book more.

A quick and easy read that was well written, had good character development and an engaging storyline. I will definitely look for more from this author.

I enjoyed that this book includes several characters from In An Instant which was this author's previous book and one I greatly enjoyed. Eight years have passed since the traumatic accident that they lived through and they are tackling yet another challenging life experience unlike anything they've dealt with before. Except this time, the storm they are battling isn't one cause by weather, it's caused by people and their actions.

This book follows Mo and Chloe as they navigate their way through life. They don't always make the best choices but they are trying hard. They have also brought their friend, Hazel into their group and formed a tight knit friendship. When something traumatic happens to Hazel, Mo blames herself and tries to fix the problem. It unleashes questions and assumptions by the legal system and puts her freedom at risk. Meanwhile, the girls are worried about Hazel's sanity and safety and go on a road trip following her after she leaves town.

Ultimately, this story is one of friendship, love and all the ties that bind us together. It also shows the dark side of human nature and how easily people can sometimes believe the worst in people. Ultimately, I appreciated the fact that through everything, this group of friends and a few others band together to fight the "storm" of public opinion and find a way to the truth.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

3.5*A story of friendships that have stood the test of time through some of the most difficult moments. A Moment in Time is a great title to sum up Chloe, Mo and Hazel's emotional healing and relationship.
The story brings light to regrets, forgiveness and retaliation. Some of the choices these friends make have ultimate consequences leaving me skeptical, but people react differently when they are in pain.

After a night in a bar, Hazel is drugged, so she doesn't remember a lot, but calls for help when she realizes she has been raped. Later she disappears, leaving Mo and Chloe frantic to find her. They see her on the app Find Friends and travel to locate her. During this time, the perpetrator has been found beaten and drugged with fingers pointed to one of them.

As the legal system works against them, they stay strong and seek their own justice. One highlight of the book is Chloe's love for abandoned animals. After rescuing a dog from abuse and abandonment, she becomes attached and the dog travels with them.

I didn't connect with this book like I had hoped, but have heard In an Instant by the author is amazing, so I will be reading it because I liked her style of writing. I think it was the troublesome topic and more so after reading her heart felt emotions of why she wrote it.

Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

Three girls, Mo, Chloe, and Hazel trying to solve a big problem and protect each other at the same time. What could go wrong among these friends? Apparently, a lot. This is a tightly written journey of how these ladies deal with Hazel’s drugging and subsequent rape. Throw in a little romance and, of all things, a dog and this was an intricately told tale. The Author’s Note at the end provides prospective as to why she wrote this book. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an advance copy of this book.
