Another visit to Silver Harbor and this time it’s Deirdra de Messieres and Josiah ( Jagger) Jones story.
Deirdra is back home in a Silver Harbor after being passed over for a job, she needs a break and she needs to rethink her future. Jagger is a laid back guy who travels around in a RV with his dog picking up gigs as and when he needs to and basically that makes him the complete opposite of Deirdra. But we all know opposites attract and you don’t need to like someone to have chemistry so can the laid back Jagger get the workaholic Deirdra to lay back, have some and watch the stars……
Maybe We Won’t ticked all my boxes, I adored this couple and I found my hoping and wishing for a HEA that they both deserved. The chemistry is sizzling and the banter is witty and I highly recommend this entertaining read to all romance lovers. I’m very excited for my next visit to Silver Harbor.
A wonderful escape!
The story is about Deirdra and Jagger. Deirdra goes to Silver Lake for a break from her life after being passed over for a promotion yet again and Jagger is the hippie chef at her sister's café. These two couldn't be more opposite and yet they make a sweet couple.
I liked that they each had to deal with their trauma and personal baggage throughout the book. The characters felt like they could be real people. I liked how the baggage wasn't tiptoed around or dealt with in a way that made it feel like the writer was checking a box. The issues are a core part of the story.
The pacing could be a bit slow sometimes.
The ending was heartwarming and well deserved.
Would definitely recommend if you're a fan of opposites attract or small town romances.
Another Silver Harbor hit right here! You will fall in love with Jagger, and his perfect match in Deidra! 5 silver stars for this one!
Deidra has always been the adult in her family, helping her mother while also raising her little sister. She's got a high powered lawyer job, but when she's passed over for a promotion, she's had it. Her boss tells her to take some time away from the office, so she goes home to Silver Harbor. While trying to escape the sounds of her sister and her fiance, she escapes to the garage apartment, where she runs in Jagger, just what she needs.
Jagger had a close relationship with Deidra's mother. He's also attracted to her, and is trying to convince her to take a chance on a younger man! His banter with Deidra will have you laughing!
Follow their story as it unfolds, you will definitely enjoy this couple! As always Melissa finds the perfect match for her characters, and this one won't disappoint!
4.25⭐
Maybe We Won't is an utterly engaging and heartwarming story. That took a character I've never really warmed too and made her completely likable and relatable too and with plenty of sweetness and a few familiar faces this was a really enjoyable read. That allowed for a few hours of escapism and its one I would happily recommend to others.
Realising this was the third in a series, I immediately went back to the very beginning to get the true experience of these three wonderful sisters, making the build-up to Deidra's story, completely worth the wait. I read each book, including this one, within 24 hours per book and it was a joyous occasion. Deidra was the most tied-down of the three, only ever believing her life should be lived within the space of four walls. Deep in her heart, is a girl screaming and clawing to be freed, to live a care-free life and much to her surprise (and dismay), all she needed was the hippie newcomer to come and unleash that girl. Jagger was a gorgeous character, who pushed and encouraged Deidra to be the woman she so desperately wanted to be, whilst also allowing her to take her time coming to terms with the woman she had become because of the loss of her mother - to alcohol and to her passing. Her story was that of hidden grief and healing, that had been built up for far too many years and needed to be dealt with. Luckily, Deidra had an understanding and determined man by her side, along with a support system as big as the island she was living on. There is no place like home and for Deidra, she needed to figure that out for herself and make her childhood home, and all past traumas, a home for the woman she had finally set free.
I’m a little peeved I didn’t go back to buy book 1 and 2 This was a fantastic book. You can rely the author's synopsis in the first few chapters to catch up on the prior books, but it would be fun to read them.
The family aspect is so strong and endearing. The sisters are similar in a lot of ways. The differences are sort of big, one being involved in the Bistro (Abby), cooking and serving up great food and the other a lawyer (Deidre).
In between hanging out with the all around hippie hottie Jagger, Deidre deals with her issues. One is the loss of her mother. She learns that Jagger was close with her mother, this aspect comes into play in a big way. When you are dealing with the loss, hurt and anger of a loved one's death the author brilliantly uses Jagger to lighten the load. In addition to Jagger's suaveness the chain of gossip is a hoot! The people, shall I say women, of Silver Island have enough time to start the funniest rumor text chain ever. This is pure comic relief. I honestly think this was the best part for me.
There is no place like home!
I've read a few of Melissa's Foster and this isn't my favorite but it's really good.
When workaholic Boston attorney Deirdra de Messiéres is passed over for a well-deserved promotion, she takes a two-month hiatus to show her boss just how much he needs her and heads home to Silver Island. But there's a surprise waiting there for her: Josiah “Jagger” Jones. Sure, the hippie is hot, but he drives her nuts. The guy lives in a van with his dog, and he can’t even commit to a solid work schedule. To make matters worse, he’s always around. She needs to get off the island, stat.
Jagger has overcome his own personal trials to place stock in life’s pleasures: family, friends, peace…and if he has his way, one positively beautiful, absolutely uptight attorney. A chance encounter leads to deep conversation, and night after liberating night, Deirdra lets down her guard. But neither has plans to stay on Silver Island. Free-spirited Jagger has wanderlust, and Deirdra has a career to return to. They’re on different paths, and plans for a future together don’t stand a chance. But when has anything gone according to plan?
I liked the emotional journey for both characters in this book, especially Deirdra. She’s been hurt by her mother and needs to start feeling again. Jagger is everything she is not. Care free, bohemian, and a “live by the day” kind of guy. Apparently they don´t have anything in common but they are going to find each other along the way. There are great sexy times –the chemistry is off the chart- but also beautiful and emotional moments. I loved her sisters even though I haven´t read their stories.
This is a deep, sweet romance, perfect for tender hearts with a bit of spicy souls.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh my heart! I love Didi and Jagger ♥️
Jagger is perfect for Deirdre and I loved how he saw into her soul and helped coax out her true happiness. He never wavered, he took all her snark and her walls and still showed her she was lovable. Beautifully written.
Deirdra is the workaholic grump that has pushed herself further and further to climb the corporate ladder. Her life hasn't been an easy one, growing up with an alcoholic mother she was tasked with raising her sister. They made it through and came out stronger on the other side, but Deidra got lost along the way. She's always putting work above her family and when she's passed over for a promotion she's come to realize that she's been giving her all to something that will never love her back. She's put stock in her life since coming back home and she's ready to make changes and she's met the perfect person to help her...Jagger. He is the sunshine she needed in her life to help her finally live it. He pulls her out of her shell and gives her the safe place to be herself finally after all this time. While she puts a facade on for the world, she's always been the little girl who dresses up with tablecloth skirts. And while we see Deidra come out of her shell we also get insights into Jagger's life and his challenges he's faced. He grew up with a younger autistic brother that has shaped his world. He lives his life moving around, not being tied to one place, but he's always been available to play for his brother. This story is about finding your home, learning to find your happiness and acceptance, and finding the person who makes you their world. Such a beautiful story with wonderful character development from start to finish.
I really enjoyed this book by Melissa Foster. It was very well done and would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Thank you to Montlake and Netgalley for the advanced reading copy of this book. My review contains my own thoughts and opinions.
Maybe We Won’t follows corporate attorney Deirdre and chef/traveler Jagger. I’ve read many of Foster’s books, and this one just wasn’t my favorite. I struggled to connect with both main characters. However, based on other reviews, I seem to be in the minority - so if you’ve loved Foster’s previous books, you’ll likely enjoy this one, too.
I loved this book! The fact that I hadn’t read the previous books in the series didn’t make a difference which was good. I loved how Deidra and Jagger fall in love over a few days and she realises that what they have is something she has always wanted and will never find again. Their love seemed magical to me and I love when a book can portray a relationship so well like this. I hate when books include a stupid misunderstanding or something of the sorts so this book was nice as there was nothing like it, just a brief moment to consider her life and what she wanted. I even cried when she was reading the letter from Ava, it was beautiful. The only reason this was 4 stars rather than 5 was I’ve read books that were my absolute favourite, and this just didn’t quite reach that point.
Maybe We Won’t is the third book in Melissa Foster’s Silver Harbor series. I absolutely loved this book! It follows Deirdra, a thirty year old woman who is a total workaholic. She got passed over for a promotion that she definitely deserved, so she decided to go on a two month hiatus and go back to where she grew up, Silver Island. She ends up connecting with Josiah “Jagger” Jones.
I loved Jagger from the start, he was the complete opposite of Dierdra in the best way. Where she was a complete planner, he was a go with the flow type of guy. She was a lawyer and a city girl and he lived in an RV and worked when he needed to.
One of my favorite things about this book was how Jagger helped Dierdra let loose and just have fun. Which she desperately needed and deserved. They worked beautifully together and I loved their love.
I also really enjoyed all of the friendships and the connection of all of the characters. Everyone was well developed and, in my opinion, the autism rep from Jaggers brother was really good. You can tell that Melissa Foster did her research.
All in all, this was a really great book. It made me feel, I laughed and I even cried (which doesn’t happen too often when it comes to books.) I would definitely recommend that you pick up this book, even if you haven’t read the other books in the series.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and the author/publisher for providing me with a arc in exchange for an honest review!
I did not read the pre-sequel novels before this one, but it was easy enough to get into and understand the plot. I will be getting a copy of the other two novels though - I related to this novel in a lot of ways.
In Maybe We Won't, the main characters are Deirdra de Messeires, a successful attorney who has no desire to return to her hometown of Silver Island, and Josiah "Jagger" Jones, a guy who has great links to his family but a strong desire to travel.
After being passed up for a promotion at her place of employment, Deirdra decided to take a two-month break and return to Silver Island to be with her mother and father. Although she spends her time at Cait's engagement party working on mending her relationship with Cait and Abby, she always wants to depart as soon as Cait's engagement party concludes so that she can spend more time with her own family. Deirdra is ready to return to her corporate job since she is haunted by memories of her alcoholic mother, who grew up at Silver Island with her father and brother.
In the summers, Jagger was a close friend of Deirdra's mother because he worked as a cook at her family's café in Silver Island, where Deirdra spent her childhood. The moniker "dirty hippie" was given to him by his girlfriend Deirdra, who did so because he and his dog Dolly travel the country in an RV, going wherever the wind takes them.
It's safe to say that the opposites attract theme was prevalent in this story. After spending time with Jagger, Deirdra develops a more empathic and considerate nature, which makes it easier for others to like her. My favourite character in this book was Dolly the Dalmatian, who was my personal favourite. Despite the fact that I enjoyed the book, I do not feel driven to read any further books in the series after this one. Despite the fact that it was delightful, it did not stand out among the hundreds of other romance books that I'd read before it.
Foster really made this book come to life. I related a lot to the protagonist and would read this book all over again. Definitely a dramatic romantic novel to keep on your favourite bookshelf.
The third book in the Silver Harbour series and whilst it can be read as a standalone, it is best to read the series in order to know the characters.
Everything you could want in a Melissa Foster book - love, romance, sisterhood, friendship. Wonderfully rich characters, good narrative, descriptive and well thought out storylines.
4.5 stars.
Deirdra had to grow up too young when her mother became an alcoholic upon the death of her father. She became responsible for her mother and her younger sister at a young age. This caused a lot of resentment for her and her life became very structured. She only comes back to her home town when she has too and this has been more often due the the death of her mother and they discovery of another sister. When she first met Jagger she thought he was a hippie drifter, but the more time she spends with him while home on extended vacation, the more she sees the kind, loving, thoughtful man he really is. He brings out her playful side and she realizes her workaholic ways have kept her away from her family and her home and she misses them. He shows her it’s ok the have fun and she really is a good sister and friend. She shows him she believes in his ideals and tries to help him bring then to life. There is a major hurdle in that she needs to go back to her real life and they both realize they want more. The ending is the a HEA I would expect from this author and it was lovely to see all three sisters happy.
This is the third book in the Silver Harbor series and I was so ready for Deirdra’s story. Deirdra and Abby were sisters until after their mother died and they found out that they had an older sister named Cait. Deirdra’s parents ran a Bistro but after her father died her mother slipped into alcoholism and unfortunately Deirdra had to be the adult to Abby and her own mother. Deirdra was always so uptight due to her childhood and when she lost out on a big promotion at work she decided to take a leave. She wanted to prove to her boss Malcolm that she was indispensable that backfired. But she had went back home to rest and recoup and ran into hippie Josiah (Jagger) Jones. Jagger was a cook at the Bistro and so laid back. The first meeting they had I was laughing so hard I couldn’t see too read for awhile. Jagger had a younger brother who had autism and Jagger could play his guitar and sing to him and it calmed him down. Jagger definitely had a huge job of trying to tear down the wall that Deirdra had built around herself. I loved the banter between the two throughout the book. Also, Deirdra’s sisters and friends gave her a hard time about Jagger constantly.
I received this ARC for free from Netgalley
3.5 stars. I liked this book but didn’t love. I ached for Deidra, the older sister who had to become a parent to her younger sister at 11 and has ordered her life so that she’s in control. She has the big paying corporate lawyer job, the nice house, nice things, and is busy with work all the time moving up the corporate ladder. When that doesn’t happen, she takes off for two months to go back to her hometown. However, after accidentally finding a young, handsome, “hippie” in the apartment bed, she decides she’s taking off sooner. She comes across as a but selfish and snobbish. She looks down at Jagger because she sees him as a hippie who doesn’t hold a job. But as she gets to know him, there is so much more than that to his story. I liked hat Jagger pulled Deidra out of her box and Encouraged her to live a little. However, his demeanor was a little too young for me and the constant calling her “sweet thing” was beyond annoying. I cringed each time I heard it.
But overall, it was a good story and wrap up to the series.

The language of love doused with a healthy dose of heartache and a boatload of life lessons. Maybe We Won't is a sweet swan song to an unforgettable series. From new beginnings to happy endings, Silver Harbor knows it's way around a heart. Maybe We Won't may not be a charmer like, Maybe We Will or a heartbreaker like Maybe We Should, but it finds it's voice in the emotions it reveals. Deidra and Jagger are the sweetest kind of mismatch. Life has taught them some hard lessons. Through the pain each has found an undeniable strength, but it's the vulnerability that they rarely reveal that is the driving force behind their unpredictable connection. Foster strikes a soulful melody that leaves a haunting presence.
The concluding book to the Silver Harbor did not disappoint and may be my favorite to date. In true Melissa Foster fashion a subject that is sometimes difficult itself, Autism was beautifully written on the page. We understand Jaggers love not only for his non verbal brother but the love he has for Deirdra (Didi) knows no bounds to help her release from her meticulous ways. Didi learns to let go and get sand in the sheets, instead of being the $1200 Armani girl she once was. That being said, Deirdra loves her family and has to face her past in a way that only she can to learn to let go and soar with her hemp wearing chef/rockstar/nomad. I enjoyed reading how one little idea around a farm to table restaurant, set Didi's sharp mind in gear and how it tied into Gabe and helping those with Autism. Thank you for shedding light on something that is vast and we learn from everyday, and what works for some does not always work for another. The ebbs and flows of Autism.
