The first thing I need to say about this book is how much I loved Elle. After suffering a major health scare and nearly die, she returns to her job and simply had enough of all it, especially her boss, West. She wasn’t afraid to tell him the dirty truth and I actually felt so much and even cried over her realizations because that’s what I felt for my old job. She was so strong and gave me some great insights over what a health and balance job should be.
West was a complex man, at first I wanted to kick him, because he was a cruel boss. But since when Elle slap him in the face with all his awful actions, he seems to try to change, even more when relate to Scarlett, his teenager niece. As Elle thought “perhaps the tin man has a heart after all.”
It really didn’t make sense for Elle to become a kind of “mentor” to Scarlett after quitting work at her corporate job for West, but all of it worked in the end. I really love the bond both the girl created and that brought another dynamic level for her and West. In that front, I enjoyed their relationship transitions, from somehow enemies, to friends, to finally lovers.
They really improved so much, both showing their vulnerabilities, having so much respect and bringing the best of each other to light. They had good chemistry and even though I hoped for more, it had a little more sexy scenes than the previous book of this author I’ve read. So bonus point. It was a great read, with a story full of heart.
I always look forward to anything Winter Renshaw writes. She's one of my go-to authors and Country Nights is one of my fave books--ever!
This is an enemies to lovers, boss-employee romance. West and Elle's push and pull was a prolonged foreplay... it's sext, swoony and heartwarming...
If you loved Dirty Headlines by LJ Shen and Boss I love to Hate by Mia Kayla, then this is the book to check out next.
Elle had made a life changing decision. She is going to enjoy life doing what she wants to instead of what is expected, as will happen when you have a brush with death. She quit her job, which her boss isn’t too happy with.. he follows her and asks her to help him with her niece and through all of this she gets closer to west and she learns to live life to the fullest and teaches West and takes him along for the ride.
I really enjoyed this book and I loved the storyline
It was a romantic and sexy read and thoroughly enjoyable
The plot was a little drawn out in places which I think detracted from the lovely flow that the author had built up
It was an emotional rollercoaster that ended really well and as I hoped! It had a good and strong storyline and really well developed characters
It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!
Elle decides she needs to make big changes in her life after her brush with death.
She quits her job at a men's magazine in a blaze of glory, but her boss, West, won't let her go easily.
He ends up asking her to 'mentor' his rebellious teenage niece.
West is a complicated man that doesn't show weakness to anyone, but there is a lot below his surface.
Elle is able to work her way in and get him to finally open up.
These two have a lot of chemistry and I enjoyed the banter between them.
I really love the text messages sent between West and Elle and the inclusion of the articles from the magazine.
This book is low on the spice level and very slow-burn
I will read anything that has this author's name on it. Her stories are always heart wrenching and beautiful. This one was no exception. From near death experience to teenage wrangler, the main character is nothing if not resilient. Add in a tough on the outside, squishy in the middle alphahole, and the book reads itself.

Notes/Opinion (personal):
This was a quick read for me. The author’s way of writing quickly draws you in and the story keeps you. It’s not exactly a comedy but there are parts that make you laugh. Parts that make you pause and wonder. It’s not a ‘deep’ thinking book but does make you wonder. I love that the characters are a bit later in life and beyond their fresh out of college years. The growth that the heroine takes the Hero through is definitely a win – stern, strong but gentle. Both develop a respect through the book that is evident. Definitely recommend.
This was another great book by Winter. It had characters that really meshed well together with chemistry to boot. The story flowed nicely too. Would recommend.
The Dirty Truth
Winter Renshaw, author
Another home run for Ms. Renshaw. Lots of angst, drama and emotionally charged dialogue.
Two story lines rolled into one. Handsome, intelligent billionaire, West Maxwell is the center of both.
West is raising his dead brother's teenaged daughter, Scarlett, who is bitter, homesick and feeling abandoned. Then, there's the fact she's not fitting in, living in the big city and has no friends at the private school she attends.
Elle Napier is a journalist working for West Maxwell at his powerhouse men's magazine. She writes a column called The Dirty Truth. She's had enough when West pops into her office and orders her to rewrite her column with hours left before it heads to publication. Having enough and realizing life is too short following an episode of death/resurrection due to an aneurism, she quits her job.
Then the fun begins as the storylines merge into one.
I loved this story and I highly recommend this book. Renshaw is simply a genius at storytelling. I was gifted an advanced reader copy from Netgalley, the publisher and Ms. Renshaw. I am most happy to leave this review.
Really enjoyed reading this book. It was better than I expected, as thought it might be a bit trashy, but it wasn’t. Main characters had depth and the way their characters grow. Definitely recommend
Having a brush with death definitely changes your outlook on life. Nothing seems the same. Things that mattered no longer hold the same importance as you are given a second chance. Giving back is all that matters as you slowly find the boss who seemed extremely tarnished has a shiny exterior after all.
[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]
//REVIEW IN ENGLISH SOON//
Elle has recently returned to her career where she writes a column for Made Man magazine after enduring a life changing event. After another less than pleasant interaction with her boss she realizes that this isn’t the life she wants to lead and resigns never expecting to see him again.
West is the owner of Made Man magazine who is trying to balance his niece Scarlett and his career. The circumstances that led to him becoming Scarlett’s guardian are affecting both of them, but she is also trying to adjust to leaving the only life he has ever known. A chance meeting between Elle and Scarlett not only leads to her becoming part of her life but his as well.
Elle knew West as a cold, detached and demanding man but as she spends time with him she realizes that she never really knew him at all. The characters draw you in and balances humor, romance and emotion as they help each other become the best versions of themselves.
My friends let me start off by saying that I have a lot of books to review, a lot, and you will see this sentence at the top of a lot of them till I catch up, so if you tend to read any of my reviews you will notice it has been quite a while since I have written one, let's just say lots has happened. So, let's begin. So as with Winter's books we get angst and so burn, but if you keep with it, you won't regret it, we get some smexy as we continue because at the very beginning Elle doesn't think much of West which we don't blame her for, however her tune does change which he does work towards and that we are happy for. Enjoy!
This was a fab, easy read.
"I'd be a fool to walk away from my life's work - but it's the strangest thing...because it's all I've been able to think about lately. The rush is gone."
When Elle Napier’s latest article for her popular column, The Dirty Truth, is declined by the magazine owner, West Maxwell, with no good reason - and he expects her to submit a new one by the next morning - she makes the big decision to quit her job. A decision that is also fuelled by her recent near-death experience. So, it’s somewhat surprising when the jerk reaches out to her for help with connecting with his 14YO niece, Scarlett, who has come to live with him full time.
"I'll show her that if she only gets one shot at this life, she should spend it with me."
This author has written yet another addictive read. Elle, West and Scarlett all have a personal journey though this novel. Not only does Scarlett begin to trust, but West, too, begins to let his guard down. Elle was such a positive, kind person. I loved her genuine approach to things and how everything she did was from the heart and with someone else’s happiness and comfort in mind. I adored how much West changed because of her and how quickly he became invested in their relationship. This story was entertaining, heartfelt and full of warmth.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This author is one of favorites and a loved this book.
Elle is a journalist and writes a column in the Made Man called The Dirty Truth. Her egotistical boss makes her write a new peace just days before they go to publishing. However, he probably isn't going to like this peice either and it definitely will not get published but she doesn't care anymore. A brush with death will do that for you. Put everything into prospective for you.
West is the owner of the monthly men's magazine Made Men. The last few months his life took a dramatic change when he gained sole custody of his 1r year old niece Scarlett
She is rebelling and won't stop running away and skipping school. He just wished he could get through to her or find someone who can.
This slow burn romance with a HEA ending is a definitely must read.
After a literal brush with death, Elle Napier starts to re-evaluate her future. She wants to enjoy life to the full, and not waste time on things she doesn’t enjoy. One of the main things she doesn’t enjoy?! Her job! Yeah, she’s not gonna miss that one little bit! Her boss is the pits, and she’s had enough! After five long years, she’s just not doing it any more!
Her boss? None other than West Maxwell. It’s more than likely the majority of men would love to be him. He’s mega rich, drop dead gorgeous, and extremely successful. But he’s also very standoffish, rude and arrogant. People who work for him tend to keep their distance! West also like to keep his private life, private – especially where his niece, Scarlett, is concerned.
I LOVED every page of this book, and Elle and West’s relationship. Elle chips away at West’s ice cold exterior until he finally melts little by little, revealing more about himself. And Elle finally finds a good man who is honest with her.
It's brilliant! Winter Renshaw never disappoints! Her books always brighten my day and, if you've never read one them, you're missing out big time! 5 stars!
Elle has been through a health scare where she nearly lost her life. She is back at her job as a journalist but her boss Max is making her life difficult. She ends up quitting and becoming a nanny for Max's niece Scarlett. She's not sure about Max being the man in her life. Max can't let Elle go and that's how she ended up as his nanny. Will the couple end up together or going up in flames?
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
I am such. Fan of Winter Renshaw. Her writing draws you in. After having an aneurism, and finding out the her boyfriend of almost two years is married. Elle is back at work as a writer for the magazine Made Man. West is the owner of the magazine and also her boss. Elle has had very little interaction with West in the years she’s worked at the magazine. Until she’s late for a meeting, that West calls her out. Then when she turns in her article he rejects it. Giving her a day to write a new one. That’s the eye opener that Elle needed that she not happy at her job. So the article she turns in, along with her resignation is about West. West has always been closed off. And isn’t used to being called out. But he still is drawn to Elle. And when Elle meets his niece by coincident he uses the opportunity to ask her to be a mentor for her. And along the way he starts to open up to Elle. This was a slow burn where the characters developed instead of the insta attraction. Definitely a read you won’t put down. And I loved the epilogue!
Wow! What an amazing story. From the beginning finding out what happened to Elle captured my heart and had me wanting to find out more. West is more than he appears on the outside. The two definitely have a love/hate relationship. Their story will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. Some of Ms Renshaw's best work. The connection Elle West have is so beautiful. West is a very private man and somehow Elle is able to break through his walls and offer him a place to feel safe and not judged when he explains why he does and acts the way he does about certain things. The passion and love these to have is strong. i could not put the book down until I finished it. A wonderful story with a great HEA.
