Caroline Linden's "All the Duke I Need" is a gem in the realm of historical romance, earning a whopping 4.75 stars from this avid reader. This Georgian historical romance offers an enchanting blend of challenging emotions, witty banter, and a touch of drama that had me hooked from the first page. The pining between Philippa Kirkpatrick and William Montclair is palpable, and their secret attraction adds an extra layer of intrigue to the narrative. The dynamic of secrets, secrets, and more secrets, creates a tantalizing tension that keeps the reader eagerly turning the pages. Linden skillfully weaves a tale of love and sacrifice, set against the backdrop of Carlyle Castle, making it an emotionally satisfying and thoroughly entertaining read. The characters are vividly portrayed, and the chemistry between Philippa and Will is nothing short of captivating. While it didn't quite hit the elusive 5-star mark for me, "All the Duke I Need" is a must-read for anyone who enjoys historical romance with a generous sprinkle of charm and complexity.
Nothing better than a historical romance with a Duke who doesn’t realize he needs love. It’s a fun and emotional book from start to finish.
What a wonderful book! The characters are gorgeously fleshed out, the writing is beautiful, the chemistry between the main characters is all there. And the side characters are a perfect complement to the story. The family intrigue is quite interesting and the solution to the mystery unexpected, in my opinion. I loved that family is very important for both characters, but that they are ready to leave it all behind for their love. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator is awesome!
I really adore this series and the characters Caroline Linden brings to life. The FMC and MMC were likable and interesting but I felt confused at times about their motivations and feelings. I think if the story was a little longer we could have understood the characters more and had some questions answered at the end. Overall a good addition to the series.
I liked the two main characters but the book didn't do it for me. Yet I still want to read the series:)
I'd been waiting for the third book in this series and it was just as amazing as the other books! I loved Will and Phillipa together!
A great ending to this trilogy. We finally find out who gets to be the new Duke of Carlyle. Loved the "twist" at the end.
This was not my favorite book, but it isn’t the worst either. Its a sweet book, but moves just a tad bit slow for my liking. It may be that I’ve not read the other books in the series. Because of that, I find it difficult to become invested. I did like the hero though. He was quite charming. Ultimately DNF.
A perfect ending to an emotionally rich trilogy. Linden is probably one of the most consistent writers active right now. Her novels may not be for everyone, but they are always credible, romantic, and satisfying.
While this is the 3rd book in the series, you can read it as a stand-alone (though really should check the others!). Both leads had strong personalities that made them reading about their struggles and romance engaging. I will say I wish it was a little longer as the resolution from the “twist” comes close to the end and doesn’t give enough room to resolve.
Splendid! This is the third book in the series, but despite reading the previous one, I didn't remember much, because it had been half a year since I read it and I have read other books about Scots in the same time period (often with similar names, so I get them mixed up). This is my way of saying that you can read it as a stand alone as the author gives you enough back story to understand the circumstances without repeating the first two books.
Brothers William and Jack Montclair from Boston have been sent by their father to London to establish a local agency for their shipping business. While Will loved maintaining the ships, he hates the office work, which Jack actually loves. Will is restless and by serendipity is offer a job as the new Steward at Carlyle Castle, which would provide a nice tidy sum to support the business until they got established. While Will butts head with the Duchess, he enchants everyone else on the estate, but jumping right in to help and repair the estate, which had been neglected by the previous Steward. And despite his best efforts he has developed an endearment with the Duchess step granddaughter, Philippa, who is beloved by also, but is also half Indian (her mother was from India, not a native American).
Throughout the book, the author kept throwing hints to the identity of the missing heir, but then at the end through a curve ball. I love it!. Well developed characters, humorous banter, and vivid descriptions made this a book hard to put down. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, was because this is the last book in the series and the Epilogue left too many unanswered questions. I was not ready for it to end so abruptly.
I read an ARC provided by publisher vis NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
What a very nice and satisfying conclusion to this wonderful series. This one was definitely slow burn and low angst. It was exactly what I wanted in a romance right now.
The chemistry between William and Pippa was amazing. I loved loved loved the happy ending for the series as a whole.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 out of 5 stars!
The heroine was raised by a doting guardian after being left an orphan when she was younger. The hero arrived at Carlyle Castle as the new steward, and there was instant connection between the two. The hero is at the estate under auspicious reasons but ends up falling in love with the place and the heroine. Yet the hero is keeping secrets that may change the future of Carlyle Castle, which may be detrimental to the burgeoning romantic relationship.
This is the third book in the Desperately Seeking Duke series. It features a beloved companion of a duchess falling in love with a "steward" that came with secrets of his own. I enjoyed the main couple as individuals and together. I also liked the secondary characters, though the duchess took a while to become likable in my eyes. It needed more details for a better transition in certain areas of the story when I read it. Overall, I enjoyed the vibe of the story and will read more Caroline Linden books in the future.

This book took me a while to get into. It wasn’t my favorite but it was cute in the end! It was pretty slow at first but eventually started to pickup. I enjoyed the romance and the characters but it definitely wasn’t one of those historical romances that I couldn’t put down. I haven’t read any other books by this author or any other from this series. Perhaps if I’d read the other books in the series I would have enjoyed reading it more. If you’re looking for a sexy page turner I would probably recommend reading something else.
This was enjoyable, but I kept feeling like something was missing. I don't think I was the headspace to enjoy this to the full extent unfortunately.
In Caroline Linden’s All the Duke I need, book 3 of the Desperately Seeking Duke, we get another lovely page turner to continue the series. The Duke of Carlyle’s entire immediate family have passed away leaving no heirs which is a precarious position for his mama the dowager Duchess and the family’s protégé and adopted darling Philippa Kirkpatrick. This we soon find out is because the duke is entirely unable to manage the estate and it’s fallen upon the Duchess and Philippa to keep things running. Enter William Montclair the new steward who comes highly recommended by the solicitor and apparently as curious as he is capable. Will is of American and French-Canadian descent and the family apparently does not like the French he is told.
William is in London to handle some business matter for his father and decides since he is about to assuage his curiosity about his family’s past. Upon meeting Philippa it’s clear that he find her haughty, while she finds him bold, brash and rather full of himself. She is exasperated by his constant inquires about the Duke and he is getting rather angry at the extent of the neglect of the estate which should be under the Duke’s care. A chance encounter quickly has Will realizing that the Duke is being protected because he has regressed into childlike behaviors and that the Duchess and Philippa have been the ones running the estate. The two find themselves coming into a truce while trying to get the estate into a proper and safe state and discover that perhaps what the two of them had planned for their futures may also need some fixing and a new chartered path. This is a story of perseverance, familial love and healing. Will comes to care for the estate, the people, the recalcitrant Duchess, the fastly fading Duke and most importantly Philippa. What does a young man do in these circumstances when his presence and communication with the Carlyle's was explicitly forbidden, when secrets are not his to tell, but could ultimately serve to free all the people he has come to care for? One has to get their hands on this new installment to find out. I promise, you will not regret doing so fellow book lovers. I received an ARC copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving this review.
This author is one I enjoy! I’ve read the other two from this series so I was happy to see how they were going to end the series! The writing and characters are good. Pippa and Will are a great match. Will is our hero who’s kind, strong willed, and has personal family problems. Pippa is our half Indian heroine who’s super sweet and the Duchess’s step-granddaughter. Will is the next possible heir to the dukedom. Will likes to tease Pippa which is fun because Pippa teases right back! I did enjoy the banter and how these two had good chemistry! It was def a slow burn for them! I liked that the drama was low key. However I just wish there was more to the ending.
I really enjoyed this conclusion to a series that I have followed for a couple of years.
This novel follows Philippa Kirkpatrick, the goddaughter/companion of the Duchess of Carlyle who has been a sort of antagonist for the couples throughout the rest of the series. The Duchess worries so much about who will be the next Duke that she is not always likeable, but we see another side of her here. Philippa meets William Montclair, an American who takes on the job of land steward seemingly on a lark. Their romance blossoms as they come together on the estate, and it is a lovely slow burn one. I also loved all the literary references as Will spends time with the Duke.
I do think it is best to read this book after reading the previous ones in the series, and note that the book ends a bit abruptly. We get the romance happy ending and the answer to whom will be the next heir, but the real conclusion seems to be in the final story, Desperately Seeking Duke: The Ultimate Epilogue.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher!
3.5 stars rounded up to 5.
To be fair I am jumping into this series at this book but that being said I really liked the MC's. I felt that they both had different back stories than we normally see and their path to HEA was interesting and intriguing. That being said the book wrapped up a complicated plot quite quickly and a bit too neatly. I did enjoy it and would seek out the previous books plus any other in the series.
