This has a lovely whimsical feel to it and the writing is superb. I just... didn't like it. At all. I hated Hannah as the main character and I just wasn't able to get over that sadly. And the whole back and forth and 'twist' just rubbed me the wrong way, it had too many elements that I particularly don't like in books so I wasn't a fan. Like I said though it's beautifully written and is for sure a book that so many people will love.

Welcome to my most anticipated read of 2022. I’m happy to report it was everything I hoped it would be! This book is 5 stars and definitely re-readable. If you liked Edenbrook at all, this is a MUST READ for you. Yes, I’m putting this one in THAT category!!

This is Tiffany’s debut into the regency genre and I can’t wait for more. (If you haven’t checked out her contemporaries, they are equally as excellent!) Tiffany knows how to write characters so well. Every character is colorful and vibrant and will make you feel all of the feels! Damon is about to become one of your favorite main characters!! Every time you hear the word smolder, you will be picturing Damon. I loved the depth to this book and love the journey this author takes the reader on. I don’t want to spoil anything but get ready for a heavy dose of swoon, banter and more emotions than you can handle… in the best way! Highly recommend this one, friends! This one will be available Feb. 14th!

Thanks to the author/publisher/netgalley for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

This book surprised me! I thought I knew exactly what was going to happen and thought it would be terribly predictable, but it wasn't!! There was tasteful drama but it wasn't frustratingly awful, just frustrating in GET TOGETHER ALREADY way.

Fun, clean regency romance
Hannah plans to wed Oliver her childhood best friend but when Oliver seems to have other plans, his brother Damon convinced her to pretend they are courting.

Not going to lie. Oliver is a putz and it takes Hannah a bit too much time to realize her memories of Damon might be skewed.

Damon is charming and likeable and super patient with Hannah’s determination to dislike him and then friendzone him.

She hung on to Oliver longer than I’d like but I loved the romance between her and Damon and there were some fun side characters as well.

Altogether is was a fun read, well written and enjoyable. I would read more from this author.

I always love a Regency Romance that can stand out from the other million in that category. And this one shines like a glistening beacon in my mind.

It has all the best makings of a regency romance. The defining characteristics of the regency, the titles and reputations, the period challenges of estates and marriages for money.

This story line is lovely, but it's the relationship here that does it for me. It's sweep-you-up beautiful.

Hannah Kirk has always had her lifelong dreams set on her childhood best friend, Oliver. Her childhood memories of him are abounding in number.
Similarly, she has memories of his older brother, Damon, as well, but instead of endearing memories, they are anything but.

When Hannah gets invited to spend the summer at Summerhaven-- home of Oliver and Damon Jennings-- it doesn't take her long to realize that something about Oliver has changed. She quickly finds herself entangled in a battle to regain Oliver's heart and secure her future.

I loved that Hannah gets to see things in a different light than she remembered them growing up, That age old, two sides to every story, things aren't always as they seem.

These characters are endearing and watching them discover what their heart really wanted was a wonderful ride. The happily ever after made my heart so happy, like the best of fairy tales.

This is my first novel by Tiffany Odekirk, and I was very impressed! I was drawn in immediately by the allure of Summerhaven. It sounded like a magical place based on the descriptions and Hannah's magical childhood memories!

I knew where the story was going immediately, but it was a very enjoyable journey! There were lots of twists and turns that made it an exciting read. In fact, I couldn't put it down and stayed up way too late to see what happened!

Hannah was a lovable mix of immature girl, loving friend, and hopeless romantic. I love her perspective, as someone who walks between multiple classes. Her universal love for her fellow man is so endearing.

Damon was my favorite character by far. His hidden romantic side is definitely swoon-worthy! I loved getting to know him as the story unfolded!

Even though the outcome was obvious, this novel stood out among other Regency Romance novels. It was well written, well-paced, and a delight to read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Covenant Communication, and Tiffany Odekirk for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinions. I can't wait to recommend it to my friends!

I loved everything about this novel. Just look at the cover, even it is stunning. The setting is described beautifully. Hannah is leaving London to spend the summer at a lovely country estate. Getting up early to take a ride across the hills before breakfast. I found Summerhaven to be a sweet regency romance that I will continue to enjoy for a long time. I truly found myself not wanting to put this book down. The idea of their moms being best friends, them growing up together and spending summers together was sweet. I found I became frustrated with Hannah. She seemed to change her mind a lot. After all she came on this holiday to win over her childhood best friend. Once she arrived, everything did not go as planed. She also saw and remembered things differently now as an adult then when she was here last as a young girl.

I want to thank Covenant Communications through NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. The opinions in the review are my own.

Childhood enemy to faux suitor, Hannah will tolerate Damon if it means she has the chance to win back her childhood sweetheart, Damon’s younger brother Oliver. Trying to move on from the death of her mother, Hannah accepts an invitation to stay with her mother’s friend in the hopes of rekindling Ollie’s interest.

However Ollie is a flirt who wants what he can’t have and Damon is tired of being paraded in front of eligible women by his father. Damon proposes he pretend to court Hannah to entice Ollie’s interest in her and to ease off the pressure from his father.

Hannah may love her memories of Ollie, but it’s Damon she matches wits with from the start.

He frowned. “Are you (going) to my lord me all summer?”
“Are you going to be here all summer?”

Hannah is clever and kind and only needs to move on from Ollie and her childhood naïveté. We only see Damon through her eyes and it takes her a while to see that he’s more than the boy who taunted her in childhood and the man who thinks too highly of himself .

Austen heroines often have to grow up to deserve their HEA, and Hannah needed to do the same. All of her childhood hopes were pinned on a man who didn’t value her, and first she has to set aside her past, look critically at what is in front of her and what sort of person Ollie is, and look to her future. Part of this was coping with her grief for her mother as well as having more value for herself.

Hannah eventually sees that Damon is jaded, witty, and considerate, and has been her truest friend all along. Damon has his own growing up to do, and it’s his faltering in this path that causes Hannah more heartache than Ollie’s thoughtlessness.

Regency language aficionados might struggle with this one, but my only complaint was that the last quarter dragged and Hannah’s final pursuit of Damon was a little cliche after what was a nuanced and intelligent love story.

SO, I’ve been debating a score for this book, and I’m struggling between 4 & 5. I think as compared to other romance or specifically Regency Romance, it really shines. But a few elements make me hesitate to make it a full 5 stars.

Right out the gate I felt the the influence of Jane Austen. Our heroine is young, living with her widowed father, and is stubborn in her ideals of love. Hello Emma! Her love interests reminded me greatly of Frank Churchill and Mr. Knightly. Both Emma & Hannah’s naivety and frankly immature demeanor were really similar to me. Mansfield Park & Sanditon kept creeping into my mind as I read as well. I love Jane Austen, so I wasn’t bothered, but I was relieved that the story had a few original moments as well. I wish the pacing was a little quicker. I like a slow burn, and I like when enemies to lovers is build up, but we reach what could be an ending around the half point and then are pushed into the second half which felt like a sequel to a cliffhanger. It was necessary for the story, but also felt disjointed. I think a little more heat, (not smut, don’t worry I know this is a “proper” romance) and a little more editing, and we would have a better payoff. When I got to the end, I wanted a swoon worthy moment between our lovers and all I got was a letter, a chase and a just okay reveal of love. So frustrating because the letter was GOOOOD, but I guess our hero had nothing else to say. Ok, now I’m just ranting….So, let’s end on this. It’s a lovely love story. Coming of age, from many points of view, finding true love despite challenges with a splash acknowledgment of classism in the early 19th century. What’s more Jane Austen than that?

Already one of my top five favorites of this year. Tiffany Odekirk is a new to me author. I was drawn to the simple elegance on the cover and have been starting hear some chatter about this up and coming author. I was not prepared to be completely moved by this book. It is a classic enemies to lovers trope, but the experience, from start to finish, left my heart in my throat many times. Tiffany did more than write about the love and pain of her characters, she expertly placed me right in the middle of it all. I won’t say more so as not give anything away, but you must allow yourself to be transported to another world filled with Hannah, Oliver, Damon, and many other wonderful characters. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of regency, enemies to lovers, clean and wholesome romances. This new author has made quite an impression on me and will remain on my radar for any future publications.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

Summerhaven was a wonderful historical romance. I really liked this story and will be giving it four and a half stars.

What happens when your childhood friend seems to not want to be around you except as a friend and he still holds your heart? Wouldn't you do anything to make him notice you? Even if that means appearing to be in love with his obnoxious brother? Can Hannah win Oliver's heart? Or is it better to move on?

This was a wonderful story, very enjoyable. I loved it! The author did a great job!

Two brothers. One childhood friend. A LOT of misunderstandings.

This book made me cringe and laugh and cheer and boo and gave me all the feels. It's the first book I've read this year that has kept me up into the wee hours of the night.

Summerhaven is a place I can't wait to visit again and again.

Tiffany Odekirk delivers a fun Regency Romance being released on Valentine's Day. As children Hannah Kent and Oliver Jennings (a second son) pledged they would someday marry. Hannah has been dreaming of Ollie and their connection when his mother extends an invitation for a six week visit to their country home. Hannah finds Ollie aloof and realizes her drams may not be fulfilled. Damon, Lord Jennings is also at the estate. She remembers him as a tease and a tormentor.

This is a clean, proper romance with some kisses thrown in for heat. I enjoyed the author mixing up tropes and keeping me on my toes. I thought it was going to be a childhood friends to lovers, then it switches to enemies to lovers and again to a fake dating romance. Being in told in first person from Hannah's POV I got a little whiplash from his quickly her feelings change but that comes with realizing that Ollie didn't grow into the person she thought he would. One of my favorite side characters is the mother who delightfully asks "do you love my son?" and Hannah isn't sure to which one she is referring. The father Lord Winfield is very harsh and abrupt in comparison.

I recommend for those who love wholesome historical fiction. Thank you NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I cannot express how much I LOVED Summerhaven by Tiffany Odekirk. This book is delightful and brings to life everything I love about regency romance. I felt for Hannah on so many levels. Navigating the loss of her mother and trying to secure her future are no small tasks, add to that the complications of trying to find love and choosing between two brothers and Hannah has a whole lot of hard on her shoulders. Her emotions in this book are so real and spoke to me on many levels. I adored Damon. I officially dibs him as my book boyfriend. The way he watches out and cares for Hannah while also encouraging her to be brave deserves all the heart eyes. This book was a delight and I can't wait to see what Odekirk writes next.

I loved this book. I loved the storyline. I loved the characters. I loved how Hannah was always trying to do what she thought was right. She definitely made mistakes but she was always trying to do what she felt was right. I laughed when Damon riled Hannah up but I could see from the first that he really loved her and was trying to help her. I just loved everything about this story.

Summerhaven

Rated: 3

Back of the Book: “Hannah Kent and Oliver Jennings pledged their hearts to each other as children.

Now, years later, Hannah is thrilled to receive an invitation to spend the summer at Oliver’s family’s country estate. The path to wedded bliss is clear—so long as Oliver’s highbrow older brother, Damon, has ceased his juvenile antics, Hannah’s future looks bright indeed.

But from the moment Hannah arrives at Summerhaven, nothing is as she expected. Oliver seems disinterested in renewing their acquaintance, and Damon is not the brutish boy she remembers but a man intent on avoiding marriage. Although she has loathed Damon her whole life, when he contrives a ruse designed to win them both what they desire, Hannah warily agrees. All she has to do to reclaim Oliver’s attention is pretend to be madly in love with Damon. But when Damon is surprisingly convincing in his role as a suitor, it proves difficult to discern the line between pretense and true love.”

Impressions: This was an easy-to-read historical romance. Although I enjoyed reading this book, the hero at a second glance seemed more manipulative than charming. His inability to be honest and forward with the people around him brought undue drama. This was of course the whole basis of the story but once over it felt silly. I did get caught up in all the drama and enjoyed each minute of it while reading. It wasn’t until the story ended that I became frustrated with the characters.
Quotes: “Just as the newspaper helped me understand the world, books helped me understand myself.”
“…he had a desire to be loved not for what he was, but for who he was.”
