I loved this book! It's well-written, enjoyable, and a great read. The author did a great job of writing in a way that captures the readers attention, and makes you not want to put it down until you're finished! I would highly recommend it!
Very interesting prose. Kept my attention, and I felt like it was very steadily paced, which I appreciate. Liked the characters as well.
This one had me flipping pages furiously to find out what happens next. I felt like I couldn't completely figure things out immediately, which I like in a thriller. A game of He Said, She Said. A well thought out plot. Well written. I definitely enjoyed it.
What does a wife do when she learns that her husband raped a woman 30 years ago? Set in Bath, three separate wives each receive a letter indicating each of their husbands was involved in a gang rape at a private club 30 years ago. The wives decided to meet to discuss the unreported crime--and are told by legal counsel that there is no criminal recourse since the victim is dead. The bulk of the novel deals with the wives taking matters into their own hands to punish their husbands for a sexual assault. Overall, Good Husbands is an interesting novel and readers will want to stay engaged for the twist at the end.
I am sad this took me so long to read. This was such a quick twisted read.
I would recommend this for sure if you are looking for a page turning thriller.
Be aware once you pick this up you will not put it down until it is done
When I first started Good Husbands, I was expecting a thriller, but it is not. This is not a light read as domestic abuse and rape are discussed. The story immediately drew me in, but as I kept reading, I found that it slowly turned into a slow burn and ended up being too long for me. It is not a bad book, not at all, it just wasn’t what I was in the mood at the time (I read it during summer 2022 and was looking for good thrillers and mystery books).
The story had great promise – it follows three women/wives, who receive letters from a woman claiming that their husbands had raped her mother many years ago. All three wives are very different and how they handled things after receiving their letter was interesting. These women seem to be happily married, and the author has us thinking: Do we really know the people closest to us? Will they stay with their husbands and opt to not pursue these accusations that took place long ago, or will they put their marriage to the test trying to find the truth?
Although I found it was more of a slow burn, there were twists and turns along the way that kept me reading until the end.
Rating: 3.5 stars
Three women’s lives are changed forever with a letter. How well do they know their husbands?
This is a good story and makes you wonder what you would do if you received a similar letter. The three women each tell their POV so you get to dive deeper into the story. My favorite scene was at the end for reasons I’ll let the next reader discover!
This is a story about three women who are strangers that all receive the same annonymous letter that states their husband assaulted a woman.
None of the women know who to trust.
Trigger warning for violence and sexual assault
This was such a good idea for a plot but something was missing for me. It might’ve just been the wrong time for me to read this book.
Thank you for the eARC in exchange for an honest review
Are the accusations true? Their husbands are all named in the letter. They've read it now and each of them has a different motivation for wanting to follow through with investigating or to forget about the whole thing. This is where a lot of discussion about "the right thing" to do comes in. I think this would be a good book club pick with much to talk about. I can see many different opinions arising.
Good Husbands by Cate Ray is the type of thriller that makes you feel like giving your partner the side-eye while wondering how well you really know them. Three women, who don’t know each other, all receive identical letters that throw their lives into chaos. The story is told in alternating chapters from each of them, so the reader gets a holistic look at the impact the letter has. The action moves along at a decent pace, but you know that the author is building toward something explosive. With the subject matter, that is obvious from the beginning. How that climax manifests is left almost until the moment that it occurs. I really liked that the author could have gone any number of ways with the story, and it still would have been a good book. Definitely recommend this one. For more details, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. This review was written based on a digital copy of the book from Harlequin Trade Publishing/Park Row.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this book for an honest review. The premise of the book is that three different women get an identical letter and they have to come together to seek the truth about their husbands. Each woman handles the letter in a different way but they all have common ground. The pacing of the story was good and the narrators reliable. The book has excellent characterizations of the three women, making them relatable and unique. This was a good read!
I was super intrigued by the premise of this book. Unfortunately, it didn't hold my attention and I gave up on it before finishing. Since I am a mood reader, it could be a case of not the right time for me so I do plan to give it another chance.
I am posting an honest review after reading an advance reader copy of this story.
A book about the effect the me too movement had on women in society. You're given information about your husband, as a young man, but do you act on it all these years later? If he a good husband & father do you blow up your marriage? If it makes you take notice of things that are wrong, or you already had doubts, can you take action without getting yourself in deeper. It's a hard read, it flips back & forth between the 3 women pretty quick. I enjoyed it but it took several days to finish the entire book.

I was absolutely crushed not to love this one. I ended up abandoning it around the 30 percent mark and chose not to share it with my followers. I loved the idea of the plot, but it ultimately did not hold my attention and I had to move on to books that I was eager to read. I would be open to reading this author's work in the future; at the present, this one did not work for me.
Intense read! Thank you for the opportunity to read an early copy of Good Husbands.
He said, she said. Who do you believe?
Jessica, Stephanie and Priyanka are complete strangers, but they have one thing in common: they’ve each received a letter accusing their husbands of committing a sexual assault more than two decades prior. Is the accusation true or is there more to the story? It was a secret that remained buried for years.
With their worlds suddenly turned upside down, they don’t know who to trust—a complete stranger or the men they love and built their lives with. The three women come together to embark on a hunt for the truth, but they are hardly prepared for what they will discover. Who is the victim, and will justice ultimately be served?
The book was well written and characters were deep. However I was expecting a thriller based on the cover and the description, and this was not a thriller. It was much heavier than what one would expect from the description.
Massive Trigger Warning: This book is almost entirely about sexual assault and the politics of who gets away with it. I cannot recommend it to anyone undergoing treatment for trauma following sexual assault.
I really wanted to enjoy Cate Ray's Good Husbands, but once I realized how much back and forth there was on sexual assault, who deserves it, who doesn't, and the destructive forces on it, I realized I could not keep reading this book.
I love a good "can i trust them" thriller. I was second guessing every character throughout the story - up until the very end.
One word: rollercoaster. Cate Ray made me wonder what I would do if I were to ever receive a letter like this about my husband. The premise of this book will make you think and you will anticipate with each page what is going to happen. Very well-written with great character development.
