Last Blue Christmas by Rose Prendeville
The only case they haven’t cracked is how to stay together.
This was a heart warming story about a detective who wouldn’t give up on finding a teenage boy who left his little brother during a crime scene. Great characters. Good plot. I enjoyed reading this book.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy for my review.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided by NetGalley for my honest review and opinion. This book will get you all in your feelings. Just be warned that it features a hot cop and his sassy partner but the deep look that Rose Prendeville takes you one with this book and the system that should be protecting our children is gut-wrenching. Happy endings helped it soothe the hurt.
It took a bit to get into this book but once I was it was wonderful. A sweet and touching book. So much pining between the hero and heroine. And a refreshing take on the typical law enforcement main characters. I look forward to this author's books in the future.
This was very hallmark movie like. I enjoyed the story line and how the police side of events worked out. The romance side was a little cheesy to me. The steamy thoughts and miscommunications only to end in a fairy tale was fairly predictable to me. Overall, I did enjoy this read. It was fast and easy read and great for Christmas time!
Police officers Maggie and Max have been partners for ten years, ever since Maggie was a rookie. Both of them are thinking they would like to be more than that but neither of them says anything. They are on a stakeout hoping to catch a big-time criminal - which could finally give Maggie the chance to become a detective - when there is an explosion at a bus station in Toronto. A small boy is found at the scene and another young boy runs away. Max goes after the runaway boy ending up in a small town hours away, whereas Maggie stays behind in Toronto, trying to solve the case, take care of the young boy in custody and decide what to do about her feelings for Max.
After reading quite a few holiday novels it was refreshing to read a Christmas book which focused on something else while having the holidays present throughout the story. This is Rose Prendeville's first novel and she did an amazing job with creating full characters you can't help but to care for while also penning an intriguing mystery, or two. Maggie and Max were both wonderful, loving characters, their relationship was fun, heartwarming and genuine and the two children added a heartbreaking but hopeful element to the story. All in all, this was a wonderful winter read and I can't wait for whatever Rose Prendeville writes next!
