This is one of my darkest romances I’ve ever read and while it was heartbreaking, the story of survival between Kade and Alina was so good. Definitely check the trigger warnings on this on though.

This was my first dark romance and whilst the captive part was difficult to read but so important to the story, I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed the back and forth being the POVs of the main characters. The lead up to kidnapping, during and more importantly after. This book is so much more, deeply exploring how the couple navigates after the trauma, how they grow, mold and melt together to find a new them with the sex getting even steamier!

This is a dark read. A I couldn’t put it down read. When Kade ad ALianna are on their way home from a party they are kidnapped! Their already rocky relationship is put to a test. Can they survive with their love intact?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really should've read the blurb before requesting and reading this book...I did not enjoy it, but the characters were good so I think people would really like it.

I didn't dislike this book, but I didn't absolutely love it either. I think some readers will be enticed to read Jameson's story after reading such an interesting blurb, but I don't think they'll be prepared for the dark direction that the story takes. It's marketed as a romantic erotica, but it stands out to me as being more on that erotic side. I feel that the main plot point of the kidnapping needed to be a longer section within the book. And lastly, if you don't over think about the characters' reactions to a few things, then you'll be fine to read this, but I was getting a little distracted by the relatability and the believability extending from these characters.

I enjoyed this dark romance story. This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed their writing style and their attention to details that made the story easy and entertaining to read. I look forward to reading more from them in the future. This is a well written story about a love that mingles above the line. The question throughout the story is will these two characters cross that line or will fate have something else in mind. I enjoyed the characters and what they brought to the story. They made me want to know more. I enjoyed how connectable they were as well as how they pulled me into their world. This is a fast paced story that is full of action and romance. This story may have a trigger or two for some but getting past those you will find a really great story. I highly recommend this book, it is worth the pick up.

Heed the trigger warnings. This is a dark romance. The main characters go through something unspeakable. But their true friendship and love for one another gives them their hard earned HEA. This author kept me glued to the pages. Delicious and dark romance.

If dark romance is your jam and you have no triggers this would be a good book to grab.

There were a lot of layers to this story. It’s an lovers to enemies to lovers again. I really loved the growth of the relationship by the end of the book. The main characters went through unimaginable situations. The way that Kade and Aliana survived and strengthened themselves and their relationship was just wow!! The consented spice was 🌶🌶🌶.

When the author said dark she meant DARK! Keep that in mind. Check the trigger warnings as well because whew! There are some intense ones.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for a eARC to read and review.

This book is not for anyone with triggers. This is a very dark romance but well written. Aliana and Kade are really struggling in their relationship. Both have character defects that are driving the other crazy. Then they are both assaulted, held captive and brutally torture. You will not be able to put the book down. I was a little disappointed with how fast it wrapped up but that did not keep me from enjoying the journey the couple embarked on. Again this is not for the faint of heart.

Received this book as an ARC from Netgalley

Everything spice is how I would describe this novel.. The Taken gives what dark romance reader want in every chapter. Delivered on every warning, Kade and Aliana bring the heat with all sides of relationship..

The beginning snagged you in. Kade and Aliana wit, barbs and cunningness all on display and then the kidnappings occurred and you arent sure how everything is going to go. Trauma and healing was major half that was very much address. There were some parts that were rush but overall a good read..

Wow, just wow. The first 30-40% of the book I was totally engrossed and devoured every page. Every trigger you can imagine, this book hits but that doesn't really bother me because the strength behind the characters was truly a powerful thing. I enjoy a good dark romance, I truly do, but this one just got freaking weird and creepy on top of the fact that the characters went from hating each other to some weird ass kink bringing them together into some magical happy relationship. It was weird. Not my jam. I do truly want to try out some more works by this author because I did enjoy the first maybe half of the book and the writing was great but this just wasn't the book for me.

*Thank you to Victory Editing Coop, M Jameson, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Taken by M Jameson is described as erotica and romance but I didn't feel it was a romance at all. It was very, very dark (take this warning seriously!). Triggers include rape, assault, kidnapping, sexual abuse, torture and gang rape.

Aliana and Kade have been having problems in their relationship. They have been together most of their life and don't seem to get along anymore. Their car breaks down on the way home from a wedding and sex traffickers kidnap from a remote area. They spend three weeks in a warehouse where Aliana is raped, tortured, and beaten. The story really begins with the aftermath, when they are rescued. Aliana seems addicted to the rush of flirting with strangers, posting nude photos on the internet, and meeting strangers in bars. Kade, tries to help her and he does, eventually.

I found this story sad, eye opening, and realistic in the way she deals with life after rape. M Jameson does not make it pretty and tie it up in a bow. I read this in one sitting and it made a powerful impact.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I recommend this to any of my dark romance readers. You follow two characters Ali and Kade starting off with them in a rough patch in their relationship. I appreciated the back story and the pacing into the 'now' story of them being taken.
The escape was realistic which was a huge plus.

The kidnapping aside, their life after being rescued was the best part. The trauma was so realistic along with the rebuilding. I know it may be RIGHT but I loved the FUCKED part of Aliana.
The sex scenes were great, but somewhat repetitive in wording.

Give this a go!

They say there’s a thin line between love and hate. For months, Aliana and Kade have been straddling that line, questioning their relationship. He is arrogant, obnoxious, and downright impossible. When I started reading I couldn't put it down. M JAMESON is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next

This book is probably the darkest book I’ve ever read. I think that it was very important that it brought to light the fact that many people developed a CNC kink after being sexually assaulted. The mc being hyper sexual is another coping mechanism that many people experience. Trauma does not just go away and this book showed that healing takes time.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an early review copy of this book!

A couple struggling through relationship issues finds themselves in a horrific kidnapping situation and has to deal with the aftermath of trauma.

My thoughts

Honestly, I DNF’d this book at around 60%. It’s not that it was bad, I just honestly couldn’t handle the main characters. I honestly couldn’t feel any chemistry between them and I couldn’t root for them even because I disliked them both, so the book was kind of too dark to handle when I didn’t really have it in me to care if things worked out or not. If you like dark romances though, or books where people deal with a traumatic event, this might be for you. I will say, trigger warnings ahead so if you don’t want any spoilers at all then stop reading here…..

TW: sexual assault, rape, alcoholism, torture, abuse, kidnapping

The beginning of this book was pretty good. After the first part though the story started to drag a bit and I found myself getting bored and annoyed. I actually liked the Male MC better than the female. The story had a lot of potential but unfortunately this was just not for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 for the first part.

4.5 stars

The Kade and Aliana we meet at the beginning of the book are not particularly likeable people. Full of resentment and vitriol one has to wonder why they even bother to stay together anymore. However, through flashbacks to their youth, we discover who they were before pain drove them to become bitter and angry with one another. This most certainly is not your standard romance but it does involve a love story with a HEA.

Taken is also far from the typical dark captive romance too, but it is still an engaging and well-written story. The author throws curveballs from the very off, introducing us to a couple whose relationship is on the verge of imploding, or exploding. A couple that have loved each other for years but who have lost their way because they no longer talk to one another. Whilst some may find Aliana and Kade's lack of basic communication to be irritating, without it the rest of the story would not exist. The story also explores behaviours that most would consider cheating, the ones we see are indirectly the result of the kidnapping. Even if being unfaithful is not for you I would still implore you to give this a chance.

This proved to be a fairly quick read, partly due to the fact I couldn't put it down (hello 1 a.m.!) but also because there were times when the pace was just a tad too frenetic. What is a good, twisted and thrilling psychological read could have been a five-star book had the author taken the time to slow down and explore each character's feelings at certain points throughout the book. Given the absolute bravery of writing this story, it seemed a shame that we didn't dig deeper into the psyche of Kade and Aliana. We saw scenes with their therapists but both characters gave the impression that they didn't listen or believe the advice they were offered. The need for "more show less tell" was never more obvious than when one considers Aliana's "recovery". I appreciate that much of what she needed was just the time to heal but the event that occurs towards the end of the book would surely have made her feel less safe rather than more.

I don't judge the sexual behaviour choices Alina made following the abuse (physical and sexual) that she suffered at the hands of her kidnappers. Nor did I have any issues with how Kade responded, here was a lost man trying anything and everything to reconnect with the woman he loved. Everybody is unique in how trauma impacts them and how they recover from it. These scenes may not be for all readers but if you enjoy dark romance these will probably seem par for the course.

I would have liked to see the author show us more of Aliana healing. She seemed to go from a drunken mess entertaining fantasies about her kidnappers to completely fine. There were a few steps forward shown but I never felt we saw Aliana mentally come to terms with anything. It also felt like the author forgot to tie up a couple of loose ends, for example ****spoiler**** was Kade "AfterDark"?

Given how captivating I found this tale to be, those concerns all felt very minor.

If you have triggers this book is not for you. That being said, this book tore me apart! Most books you get the female's thoughts and inner struggles but what Aliana and Kade have to endure both personally and as a couple would grind up most people and leave them broken. These two characters grip you from the beginning!

Definitely one to recommend to my dark book lovers!

This book is for adult readers only (18+), you must check the CW before reading it.

Aliana and Kade are a couple on the verge of breaking up. One day, on their way home from a wedding, they are attacked and kidnapped. The descent into hell begins for them. Will they be able to escape it?

I’m really going to emphasise that this book is not for everyone. It contains detailed scenes of physical and sexual assault. Do not read it if these kinds of scenes put you in a dark place.

That being said, I found this book interesting. We are really immersed in the minds of Kade and Aliana while they are captive. Even though they were on the verge of breaking up before this, we see how much they care for each other and that the love between the two of them is strong and still present.

I may be wrong, but even if the ‘after’ is handled differently than in other books I’ve read, I found it accurate in some way. Of course, not everything seemed realistic, but I have known people who were abused in the same way as Aliana and who had similar reactions as hers afterwards. I think the human mind has a very particular way of dealing with trauma sometimes and inflicting our own torture is unfortunately sometimes a part of it.

I give it a 4/5.

Thanks to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and M Jameson for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
