So, if you couldn’t tell, I really like picture books featuring badgers (my dog’s name is Badger and I’m gathering books for him). This grumpy Badger having an extremely boring day and having his friends show him how to use his imagination to have fun, is adorable and hilarious!
Badger, who has previously been in a very bad mood, is bored today.
It's the kind of bored that feels like it will never end.
Nothing that usually makes him happy or cheers him up is making him happy or cheering him up!
One by one, Badger's friends start dropping by and guess what? They’re bored too!
After trying out all of their usual favourite activities, the friends are at a loss.
Nothing is working…. whatever will they do?
I loved that the friends worked together, finding a fun activity where everyone could be involved and no one was bored anymore!
(Also gives parents good ideas when their kiddos say they’re bored!) 😂
This is a great book about being bored together and finding some fun games to play with friends. The illustrations are really beautifully done and are colorful.
SYNOPSIS
Badger is Bored by Moritz Petz and illustrated by Amélie Jackoski is a magical and original tale. When the story begins, Badger is alone and at a loss to find a distraction for his listlessness. Soon however, a cast of animal characters arrives and together they manage to conquer tedium through group participation and collaboration.
CONCLUSION
Badger is Bored is illustrated throughout in a colorful, child friendly style. The work is ideal for children 4-8 years of age and is 32 pages in length. The book is short enough to maintain a child’s attention and yet long enough to be entertaining. The story is uplifting and positive. The illustrations and the narrative combine in harmonious unity.
This was a cute book. I read it to my 4 year old. The pictures held his attention about halfway through. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book for free in exchange for a review.
Badger is Bored is a fun read aloud on how to overcome boredom. Cute, fun, and whimsical with great illustrations.
What a fun book - I have loved these books and this one, about boredom and how to combat it, is just as lovely [AND educational, without seeming its teaching] as the previous ones.
Badger is bored - nothing he usually does is helping. Thankfully, his friends all start showing up, but they are all bored as well; no matter what they try, they are all meh. Mouse shows up with an injury and life really picks up after that and they all end up having a magnificent day.
Gorgeously illustrated, this is a delightful book that teaches us all that the cure for boredom often comes from the most unexpected places.
Well done.
Thank you to NetGalley, Moritz Petz, Amelie Jackowski [Illustrator], and NorthSouth Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts out with a very bored little badger. They try to do things they normally likes but they’re still bored. Then a friend comes over and they try to do things the friend likes but they are still bored. Then they are joined by more friends and eventually more friends yet nothing can hold their attention. Until they find out a friend has a boo-boo but this boo-boo leads to a Lot of fun for everyone. This book was adorable, if a bit long. The illustrations are the soft old-fashioned pencil drawing style that really work with the story. Overall this was a great read that would be checked out many times by many patrons
We've all heard kids lament that they're bored. In this book Badger is bored, as well as his friends, Fox, Squirrel, Blackbird, and Rabbit. They show up one after another at Badger's door but the things they normally enjoy aren't doing it for them. When Mouse shows up wearing an eye patch, their imaginations start working. With a pirate ship, a treasure hunt and even a sea monster they each use their own talents to add to an enjoyable afternoon.
This is such a cute story. I love how the friends all felt the same way, yet tried to help each other find something they would all enjoy. Yay for Mouse to arrive at the right time and inspire them. The fact that each animal was able to use their own talents and skills to add to the fun and have a lot of ideas for the next day. Amélie Jackowski had added her wonderful illustrations to this book. They were so full of detail, with emotion and lots to make me smile and laugh. I definitely recommend this story to families, classrooms, schools and libraries.
Oh my gosh. So very cute! I loved this and I love badger with all of my heart. I loved the writing style of this book and would not hesitate to read it to the children in my life.
Have you, or your child, ever been bored? Then they will be able to relate to little Badger. Our story begins with Badger being bored. Even his favorite activity does not bring him joy today. One by one his friends come over complaining that they too are bored. After trying all his friend’s favorite activities, they are left without anymore ideas until Mouse arrives. Mouse has on an eye patch, which gives them all a great idea of what to play, Pirates! Using each other’s skills and creativity, they go on an epic pirate adventure, filled with a sea monster and treasure.
I love this sweet story of how boredom can turn into creativity and fun. A wonderful tale that many children can relate to today. This story also weaves very important lessons of friendship, working together, and problem solving. A great book for the home library or for the classroom.
Thank you NetGalley and North South Books for allowing me to read this story.
This book has great artwork but a weak storyline. The little bear can't control himself and eats his mother's gift box of chocolate. Then the father bear comes in and tells the cub that love is on the inside and that the thought counts for enough. I feel like this is giving mixed messages to the young audience. I did enjoy that at the end of the book, the father had also eaten the box of chocolates that he was planning on giving to the mama bear, however I think that the execution of the twist falls flat. While the reader is young, you can give them more credit and instead of flat out stating that father bear ate them, leave it to be inferred by the reader.
Such a cute story with illustrations to match. I loved how this book provides inspiration on ways to combat boredom by using your imagination. The author has brilliantly crafted a tale that will be relevant to young readers as they play through imaginative scenarios. This is yet another book that I will add to the growing list of books for my grandsons for Easter holiday. Five outstanding stars.
I received a digital ARC from North South Books, Inc. through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
'Badger is bored' focuses on a group of young animal friends who are all struggling to find something to do.
Pupils ages 1-5 will love this book. It can be linked to topics such as friendship, decision-making, and kindness. The illustrations are beautiful, and the sentence and word structures are simplistic, which is beneficial as young children won't be overwhelmed by the language.
Personally, this story didn't feel that unique or original. There are similar books out there, with similar art styles but I liked the storyline and I'm sure young children will love it too.
Rated: 3.5 stars
Thank you to netgallery for allowing me to read this funny and engaging book.
Lovely illustrations. That’s what drew me in the most. The story itself is pretty cute…badger is bored and can’t find enjoyment in any activity. He recruits some other animal friends, but they’re all equally as bored with puzzles, painting, and fort-making. Then along comes mouse and the animals’ imaginations take over and suddenly they’re no longer bored. Cute book, but I’m not sure it would be requested to read very often since there’s no real humor to the story and it’s a bit repetitive.
This story follows Badger and his forest friends and their quest to alleviate each other's boredom. The story is a fun, simple read that I think many children will relate to. The illustrations are adorable and will be fun for little readers. It's a great book to pull out when a child is bored and needs ideas for activities to do.

Cute and simple!
This book will entertain your kids and give them ideas of what to do when they are bored. The illustrations are easy on the eyes. And it includes lots of different animals. The book shows if you are creative enough, there will always be something to do!
Every kid gets bored, and so does Badger. Badger and his friends are yet again dealing with their emotions and this time it is boredom. "Badger is Bored" is lighthearted and fun. The story shows teamwork and helping friends on top of solving the issue of being bored. The illustrations are adorable and fun. Moritz Petz does it again with another wonderful book every Mom will appreciate when their five-year-old declares "I am bored!"
Badger is Bored is Moritz Petz's new children book, I suppose part of the same series as Bad Mood. I decided to follow on reading this little series because I love the drawings of both and I must say that the cover was quite attractive to me.
Badger is Bored tells the story of Badger, who one day happens to be bored and finds everything he does annoying. Then his friends turn up one by one, and one by one they tell each other how bored they are. Until Mouse comes to see them all, with an eye patch...
The story by itself is very simple but perfect for little children. It was so cute and very truthful in the moral of the story: this is by being surrounded by people we love that we create the best idea and have the most fun!
I would definitely encourage parents to read this book to their children! It's the perfect story bed-time story and it's not too long.
Thank you Netgalley and NorthSouth Books for letting me review this cute book!
Badger, who has previously been in a very bad mood, is bored today. It’s the kind of bored that feels like it will never end.
“I’m more bored than I’ve ever been before - ever.”
He tries doing what he usually enjoys the most but it doesn’t help. One by one, Badger’s friends drop by. They’re bored too. After trying out all of their usual favourite activities, the friends are at a loss. Nothing is working.
Then Mouse arrives, sparking their imagination. It turns out today isn’t boring after all.
I loved that the friends worked together, finding a fun activity where everyone could be involved. It definitely didn’t hurt that their adventure was pirate related.
I enjoyed the illustrations but the layout could have been improved by making the text larger.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for the opportunity to read this picture book.
