THANK YOU to the publisher and netgalley for the arc. I admire books that pack an emotional punch in a light hearted way and this was just that. I knew it wasn’t gonna be a fluffy cute summer read but wasn’t expecting the level of emotion of this book! A book about our control over life!
What a page turner!! Also, from someone who..
a) Has been laid off due to business closure
b) Had a car accident a few months later
c) Then broke her ankle short after
Yup, Cam and Ally.. I can relate (sort of) lol. This unexpected tear jerker will keep you wanting more, it will absolutely give you all the feels. 100% Recommend!
I had just said that I hadn’t read a book that made me cry in such a long time… well this one has done it.
Cam is a mess… but he recently had it all. He and Ally had been together over a year and they were supposed to have the rest of senior year and all summer. But…
1. Allison breaks his heart.
2. Allison starts dating someone else.
3. Allison gets into a terrible accident, leaving her in a coma.
4. Cam tears his ACL in a basketball game.
Now, Cam is stuck at home nursing his casted leg alongside his shattered heart. Why is he suddenly seeing his comatose ex in his bathroom? Why is she talking to him? Perhaps it’s the brand new miracle medication his doctor has him on… Either way, it gives Cam a respite from the constant mantra he lives by “I’m over Allison Tandy.”
This book was quirky, intriguing and full of emotion. While some serious topics were spoken with a level of cavalier that I found disconcerting, there was so much more in this book that I loved. While this is fun, it’s also pretty heavy. I enjoyed the realistic idea of senior student life, the parties, the relationships… which paired perfectly with the bizarreness of astral projection being just a thing that happens. The combination was fresh and incredibly addictive.
an incredibly emotional read that had me laughing 90% of the time (and crying for 10%). Cameron’s mom was hilarious & my favorite part of the book had to be her jokes & commentary. The friend group was also so so cute and I need more of Lisa & Chevy asap

Thank you to Penguin Teen and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book to read and review. This book was a whirlwind of drama, friendships, feelings and teenage angst, and I loved it. The sarcasm and inner monologues inside Cam's head were magnificent and I really enjoyed his narration. I loved the idea of Ally being an astral projection while she's in a coma. I thought it was done really well and it contributed naturally to the storyline. I'm excited there will be a book two because I want to see where these characters will go. I feel like this book was so sharp and refreshing. It was funny, but also dealt with teenage issues that didn't feel forced. I thought the dialogue was done well and it was able to achieve an effortless air of humor and sadness that goes along with the relationship struggle of being in high school. While the characters are young, the book took on a deeper tone and I truly enjoyed reading it.
What an exceptionally unique, funny, heartbreaking book. i haven't read something like this in such a long time and it was a breath of fresh air. it's so relatable and has such good lessons sprinkled throughout that everyone needs to read this book ASAP.
While I really enjoyed the characters, this book wasn’t really for me. If you like just like heaven starring Reese witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo then you will enjoy it a lot!
I went into this book not knowing what to expect and it blew me away with its heartfelt yet hilarious words. It’s a book that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions and at the end you want nothing more than to hop back on and go through it all over again. It’s the kind of book that takes you by surprise and can live rent free in your mind.
It’s a book that is intended for a YA audience but translates well across all ages. Reading Cam, Allison, and all of their friends' dialogue felt reminiscent of myself with my friends from high school. They were perfectly flawed to where they felt realistic to how teens truly act rather than an exaggerated version. I truly cannot wait for more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Teen for this ARC
A Heavy Dose of Allison Tandy is a delightful, hilarious romp through love and loss. The characters feel so real, I wondered if I was back in high school. Cameron (Cam), Allison, and their friends are by no means perfect, but they are still likeable. As a goody-goody, I did not relate to their free-spirited teen ways (drinking, smoking weed, having sex, etc.). However, I understood the reasoning behind every bad choice they made, and I always rooted for the characters in the end. They are flawed in a human fashion, not a villainous one.
The plot itself is unique and well-done. Ally's sarcastic dialogue was a perfect fit for Cam's habitual lying, which is seen in the way he narrates experiences. While the ending could be described as cliche, the book is a wonderful standalone which could lead into a sequel. If Bishop decides to continue the story of these characters, I hope to be around to see it.
From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.
