Off Script had the potential to be fun, but the character development was wonky. Plus, the male main character had a few creepy moments, and he just did not get better.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.
I love Hollywood romance novels! This was fun and easy to read! I really liked the writing which made it easy to get sucked in.
Very well written book. Really enjoyed this author, would definitely read more by this author and recommend on my book IG
I cannot root for a cheater who doesn't repent or really change. And I also cannot root for a romance that doesn't have any depth.
This book was a slog and while I liked Jada, somewhat, her character kept oscillating, while Tristan just seemed like a terrible person the whole time. Nothing about their relationship felt healthy, or like something I could root for and it all just felt like a huge miss for me. I'm not event mad enough to rant about it.
TW: racism, infidelity, sexual content, body shaming; mentions death of a parent, alcoholism, sexism

this was so cute! I highly recombine.d I love the chemistry the characters had and the plot was just what I expected.
This has been on my NetGalley shelf for over a year, and I still haven’t picked it up. I've tried, but it just isn't for me (right now). I hope other people enjoy it more than I did.
You know when you LOVE the idea of a book based on the synopsis, but then you read it and it just kinda doesn’t work out? That was this for me. The male main character was SO disgusting to me and such a turn off for me as a reader… I don’t do well with condescending characters and that was him in a nutshell. The way he acted and talked and thought was just bleh. I couldn’t get past it. I ended up DNFing the book around 20%, but I do appreciate the opportunity nonetheless!
we get it, he’s good looking but why was our main character, jada, attracted to him because i’d really love to know. i know the fake dating trope never makes much sense but here it was terrible.
I loved Off Script. I enjoyed the love story and how the characters' relationship formed. I loved Jada's complicated nature and Tristan's bad boy persona (although his choices were annoying at times, I think the reality of everyone's flaws makes the book). It is a light but fun read. I found it captivating and couldn't wait to get to the end to see how it all developed.
I read this book back when it was on Wattpad and I was so excited to see that it was being published. I loved the characters just as much as I did back then and the story sucked me in just like I was reading it for the first time again. Bravo! Thank you for the ARC!
We love a good faux-relationship romance novel 😍
Off-Script was funny and witty with just enough twists and turns to keep me interested. Perfect for a light read and quick pick-me-up. The characters were likeable and the tension was delicious.
There were a few things that were anying such as the petty and catty attitudes betrayed of the women involved. But it was still a good read overall.
I liked the book a lot in the beginning, but I just did not feel invested at all in the love interest. I wish the secondary characters had more development because I think there may have been more potential there in the story. I overall really wish I enjoyed their relationship more because the set up was very nice.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
This book just personally was not for me. I didn't enjoy the writing or how the storyline played out. It just was not able to capture my attention.
I tried reading this book for months but I simply could not push through. I was really excited about the synopsis and the cover drew me in but unfortunately the story fell flat. The main characters were intriguing and Jada and Tristan were very intriguing individually but I felt not chemistry between them and it got to the point where I did not care what was going to happen so I unfortunately had to DNF it. It's a shame because the story had a lot of potential and the secondary characters were also well fleshed out but the writing style felt a little awkward at times.
*2.5 stars
Well, yeah, the tropes seems promising: a workplace romance between movie actor and actress frenemies fake dating for the stunt, but this one doesn't executed well. I know I'm not a big fan of celebrity fake dating and I thought I'd change my mind after this book but nope.
Let's start with the likes. First is the BIPOC main characters that caught my attention when I saw the cover. Though, sadly, it didn't really stand out much in the story, it barely shows that they're BIPOC except Jada's skin tone on the cover and that Tristan spoke in Spanish. Second, we get to know celebrity life behind the scene with all the Hollywood politics.
Now to the dislikes, I can't mention one thing to love about Tristan or Jada's character. Tristan's behaviors towards women is just a major red flag, gaslighting a woman for something HE did wrong, and didn't show any effort in apologizing except offering his talent in bed. And Jada has lack of personality, she's an actress but I can't see that in her and she never stood up for herself when someone tries to bring her down.
Another thing that sucked even more is the lack of chemistry between the two of them gahhhh!!! They fight more than they talk as a couple and I can't really see that they have a good time together. Their relationship felt forced and it still felt like it was a PR stunt when it was no more.
Not a big fan of the writing style either, it's poorly edited and felt awkward, it doesn't feel... alive?
This book was okay and such a fun quick read. I'm actually more invested in Mikayla and Ren, their story would make such a good enemies to lovers.
Thanks to Netgalley and Wattpad books for the ARC!
I love a good fake dating story, but this was just missing something for me. I think that I just struggled with Tristan and seeing him as likable. It also took me a while to get into - I picked it up and put it down multiple times. This book has lots of potential, and I could see other people loving it!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
'Off Script' by Ashley Marie 3 stars
Jada Berklee’s acting career is finally coming back after an incident with her ex caused her career to plummet. While Tristan Maxwell cheating on his latest fling and other bad publicity led Jada and Tristan into a fake relationship that will boost both of their careers.
This book had so much potential, it could have been a 5-star read. The writing was great but the characters were the downfall. At first, I hated Tristian he treated the women around him like objects, saying horrible stuff and would ruin the cutest moments but towards the end, he got better but no one acknowledged this behavior. Only the writing style saved this. The story was great if only the characters were different. The fake dating was played off fine. Their backstories were also fine, they weren't great but not horrible. Overall this book was alright not horrible.
Thanks, NetGalley for the arc.
I really wanted to like this as it hooked me from the beginning. I had a hard time reading about the characters because they were quite unlikable. I like a cinnamon roll type hero and Tristan was not for me.
This was a really well done read! This was my first Ashley Marie book and I look forward to reading more from them in the future!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
