Christina Lauren’s novels are always fun and this one is no exception. I really enjoyed this one. The plot is super fun and the characters are solid. I devoured this one from start to finish!
Lily Wilder is just making ends meet, taking hopeful treasure hunters on journeys through the red canyons of Utah and beyond. She knows it isn't enough, but it keeps she and her best friend working and eating. She wants more, but she has no idea how to make that happen. Leo Grady is a math genius, he works through the motions of day to day life to provide the life his sister deserves to have. When his best friend takes their group on their annual trip, he doesn't know the mirage of Lily Wilder will be for real. Their past is as messy as it comes, coated in ten years of dust. As the trip goes off the rails, a fun treasure hunt turns into a real one, and a fight for their lives and their love.
I don't know why it took me so long to fully get into Something Wilder, my mood just wasn't having it for a while, but man when I finally took a second to sit down last week I just fell head first into this adventure. This one is so fun, totally classic Christina Lauren. Something Wilder is 100% unique, a total adventure I could see playing out on screen, and a romance that is as unpredictable as the trail map Lily takes these characters on. Lily is all spunk and sass, she's as tough as her father wanted her to be and then some. She's a total blast and I could not get enough of her. She's driven to succeed, she's not afraid to do whatever it takes, and she's truly full of heart. The rest of the cast, including Leo our swooning, nerdy heartthrob, just showcase her even further. Speaking of Leo, I love a good the-past-comes-back storyline. The way the characters have to work through forgiveness is just the best and really lent itself to a wild wild west romance with a contemporary touch.
If you feel like you're looking at a treasure map when selecting the next book to read, going mad hunting for the red x, I'm giving away the solution right now, pick up Something Wilder. It's a special sort of romance and I just cannot get over the fact that Christina Lauren continue to come up with unique and clever storylines. This one is a win for me!
This book delivers what it promises to be: WILD! I normally go into books blindly so I had no idea what the premise even was but the book kept me in its grab and I couldn’t put it down. It’s full of turns and twists and it was really fun. Both main characters were amazingly adorable, had great chemistry together and complemented each other very well. All the other characters were also cute and I want to read a book about Nicole!
4.5 stars.
Wow. I loved this book! I always will read Christina Lauren books because there's a great balance of angst, love, and humor. This book came with adventure! I was reminded so much of Romancing the Stone, which was a movie I loved from when I was young. Adventure and romance rolled into one? What more could you ask for? While this book was a little slow to start (thus the knocking off of half a star), once it got going, I was HOOKED. Leo and Lily used to be in love and a family tragedy's pulled Leo away. Years later and he's found himself on an adventure tour run by Lily herself. There are perfect awkward moments in the beginning that slowly melt away to give you heart eyes over these who obviously need to get together. Mix this with a planned cutesy adventure that turns into a deadly treasure hunt, I didn't even know I needed this. I could clearly picture the action scenes because they were so vividly described. The bad guys were almost cartoonishly bad and dumb but it worked. Just when you were getting settled into some fun banter between Leo and Lily, danger pops up to keep you on the edge of your seat. All of the puzzles and clues just made their adventure even better. I had a sneaking suspicion (and hope) that something something in the climax would happen and I wasn't disappointed. I loved that conflict to drive Leo and Lily apart happened in the very beginning so that all we really got throughout was the angst of realizing their feelings and trying to figure out how they could stay together. This book was a perfect combination of adventure and romance and I highly recommend it
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read and review a upcoming book! Christina Lauren have quickly become favorite authors over the past few years so I was super excited to preview this latest work!
I enjoyed the typical CLo love story, but honestly felt like there were some things that just didn’t fit their normal style of writing. I wouldn’t tell cLo fans to skip this one, but don’t think it will stick with me as long as some of their others.
Great for the outdoorsy types, people who love second chances, or just want to enjoy a well developed setting!
Keep it coming Christina and Lauren!!!
This book was not what I expected. There was adventure along with romance. I felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie. The characters were easy to fall in love with, or easy to dislike. I'm a sucker for a second chance romance book and Something Wilder delivered. I'm a huge fan of Christina Lauren books and this one might be my new favorite! Highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley, Christina Hobbs & Lauren Billings, and Simon & Schuster, Inc. for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
This was a great adventure story for the authors. Definitely different from their normal rom/coms and a bit too unrealistic at times but still an enjoyable read!
The story has a strong female character who has overcome many obstacles and learned that not communicating or assumptions can lead to misunderstandings that leads to a life without a loved one.
This story was nothing I expected and everything I wanted. When I first picked it up I wasn’t sure I wanted to stick with it. The location just wasn’t my normal go to nor did the characters seem like I would fall in love with them. But boy was I surprised. This book takes twists and turns throughout the entire book all while telling a wonderful story.
This was an interesting read from Christina Lauren. It wasn’t nearly as much about the romance that I expected. It felt more to do with the treasure hunt. I was definitely more invested in that, but it made me unsure what I was reading. Some of the plot seemed a bit too unrealistic but I was happy with how it all turned out.
Fun summer read. Second chance romance and some treasure hunting adventure what more do you need. I enjoyed this quick little romance story.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Now, Christina Lauren are great at writing some fun books, but Something Wilder is easily the most fun I’ve had with them thus far!
I thought I was getting one thing when I went into this book, then it all went sideways and got even better! I was NOT expecting that moment and let’s just say Christina Lauren can sure write an edge-of-your-seat action scene, too.
If you long for adventure and romance, this is the book for you! It’s part sweet second chance romance, part family mystery story, all bolstered by a whole lot of treasure hunting and great humor! Don’t take this book as a survival guide on your next vacation, but do take it to survive *those* vacation moments.
I loved the dynamic between these two, and all of the supporting characters were perfect for the story … and I hope we get a little more of them, too!
I’m not going to say this is a plausible story, but I will say it is thoroughly enjoyable! In fact, this story spurred a “Christina Lauren” reading marathon, and I went back to read the back catalog. How have I missed getting addicted to this author?
The long-suffering daughter is a terrific (although no believable) character. I, for one, had no issue with the far-fetched nature- it was the right choice by the author to provide something fun. I loved it.
This is a story about an untamed girl.
I loved this book so much. I’m an absolute sucker for an action adventure story! I’m happy to report that while this was a book with a romance in it, it avoided most of the things that irritate me about romance. Lily really resonated with me, and I think that if you are a stubborn individual who has no idea when to give up, she’ll resonate with you too.
Thank you so much @netgalley & @gallerybooks for the eArc! I loved the dual narration ♥️
I love Christina Lauren. This writing duo have written some of my favorite books. This new release is no different. I love Lily and Leo's story and it is full of adventure.
Lily is trying to live her life in the shadow of her famous treasure hunting father. She leads tourists on fake treasure hunts to cover her bills. She dreams of one day buying her old family's ranch, but it seems to be so far out of reach. When her long lost love shows up unexpectantly on one of her hunts. Her past collides and everything she has tried to keep away from comes rushing back. When unexpected events lead to a possible real treasure they must decide if it's worth the risk and the possible heartbreak.
There are so many plot twists, and I was kept on my toes the entire time. I definitely have to rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. It is so worth the read and you won't be disappointed.
3.5 Stars. I enjoyed this book - especially the relationship between the hero and heroine. The adventure story seemed a bit far fetched to me, and took away from the book.
Can I let you in on a secret??
I have never read a Christina Lauren book and I am so ashamed of myself. I was #gifted an ARC of Something Wilder from @netgalley and @gallerybooks in exchange for an honest review.
Let me just say - this will not be my only book by Christina Lauren. This was so good! I loved the friendship of Dub and Nic, the history embedded within the book, and the perfect combination of suspense and romance.
This book was full of twists and turns, codes and puzzles, and Wild West references.

What a wild and fun read. Perfect for adventurers and adventure seeking readers. A story filled with lots of surprises with great descriptions that I could easily picture the scenery and people so vividly. It’s like the goodies but a little steamy and older characters. The story kept you on your toes in a fun and can’t put the book down kind of way. I learned so much about that part of the country and the events of treasure hunting. Also the gamut of coding and styles of communication was so cool and awesome to learn about. I only wish Wilder Ranch and Excursions was a real place. Thanks for a fun summer read!
Took me a while to finish this one. Overall a good read, but didn't really keep my attention. I wasn't ever really excited to pick it back up. Normally I love a Christina Lauren book, and devour it in a couple sittings.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
4 STARS
This one was highly entertaining. Think romcom CL but with a National Treasure movie type adventure.
What I loved:
1. I really loved how the hero and heroine got back together and had to work together to solve the clues for the treasure hunt.
2. I love a smart hero. There is just something about it.
3. The heroine is the rugged outdoor one, and I loved that she was (along with her friend).
4. The adventure aspect and the topics of seeing the world and traveling before settling down rang so true for me.
5. The ending was so cute.
6. I loved the narrators. It was read very well.
What I needed more of:
1. The steam is pretty minimal, but CL fans will expect this. I personally prefer a bit more steam in my books
2. I’m not a huge fan of second chance and I hate miscommunication, but it was done well and the miscommunication happens in youth so I was okay with it ultimately.
***note this is an adventure romance so there is danger and good guys and bad guys
Overall, it was a great listen. Kept me entertained, and it was fun.
