I was so excited for this book, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I ended up DNF it, I could not get into it. I know others enjoyed it, so I recommend checking out their reviews.

A beach read with a brilliant plot, that's Jennifer Weiner in a nutshell. Her genius is in character development and The Summer Place is a good read.

Another excellent book by Jennifer, this one in-universe to her previous book “that one summer”. I love a story that carries over characters and settings, even if it’s not a “sequel” in the strictest sense of the word. Some twists were guessed but it didn’t dampen my enthusiasm for the ending. I would have loved to get even more follow up from these characters

this book gave me the feels. i was drawn by the title of the book and then i was sucked in completely. really liked this and want to find more of her books.

Jennifer Weiner has become a summer staple. This was a tale of family, secrets and dysfunction. It was like reading a soap opera - many characters and storylines converging in one big story. Is is weird to say that the house was one of my favorite characters? I loved that the house was a focal point of the story, just as it was the lives of the characters. There was a lot of family drama and bad behavior - the kind that definitely kept me interested. Not my fave book by this author but certainly one I enjoyed listening to, nonetheless.

I love Jennifer Weiner but this book didn't work for me. I think others could enjoy it, so please give it a try for your next pool side read.

This is not one of Weiner's best books.
It is about a love story during quarantine. It was just okay.

Weiner is a go-to author for me. From her storytelling to the characters she crafts, I know I can always escape into the sometimes complicated worlds she creates. THE SUMMER PLACE has the real characters I love with dynamic relationships that make the narrative so addictive. Then you add the emotion and you get one good book.

Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for a review. This novel released on May 10, 2022.

Who knew an anthropomorphization of a freaking house would make me cry?
I really enjoy ensemble novels like this, where each character has a secret and the reader gets to slowly unravel each one. This family was the definition of dysfunctional, but for the most part I found the characters to be realistically flawed. (The only exception being one overreaction and drastic and regrettable retaliation from Sarah). I could guess some of the twists, but certainly not all, and really enjoyed the way the plot unfolded.
I didn’t notice until my aunt pointed it out that Big Summer, That Summer, and The Summer Place are all in the same universe, with hints at the past characters in each one. I caught Diana’s mention in this book, but don’t remember enough about Big Summer to catch any references this time.

Unfortunately, I did not finish this one. I’m usually a big fan of Weiner books but this one did not connect with me. I found it to be predictable and although I have no issues with unlikable characters, I could relate to these characters. There were some cliche moments as well that just didn’t seem like her normal writing.

#jenniferweiner #thesummerplace this one just didn’t hit the mark for me. I am usually Jennifer’s biggest fan. It was a quick read and held my interest ish. In a COVID world. Two people move in together fall in love. And plan a wedding. Do they go through with it? Is COVID love real? #netgalley #bookstagram #bookreview #threeoutoffivestars #love #covid

Jennifer Weiner is the best at beach reads. But I couldn't wait for beach weather before diving into this book. The Summer Place is a true, untraditional family drama. The character development is the real winner here though. While the actual premise might have fallen a little short for me, the characters stayed with me long after the book was done.

Sweet, winsome, and emotional, as Jennifer Weiner always is. A solid and sweet entry, and a perfect beach read with heart and substance.

Read this book only halfway; I could not finish it. I thought it was too farfetched on probabilities that every couple in the book had secrets of infidelity or that in a city like New York, the consequences of that infidelity would be the centre of the narrative. The fact that the house has a soul is the most realistic aspect of the story.
I’ve read many books by Jennifer Weiner but was sincerely disappointed in this one.

This was not my favorite of Jennifer Weiner's books. It was entertaining, but not a book that I would revisit. It was a good summer read with the Cape Cod setting, but I had issues connecting with Sarah, the main character.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to like this book but I found myself dreading to finishing it. The story line was interesting but there were too many characters and they were unlikeable. I didn’t mind the pandemic part of it but I did find that it was mostly toward the end of the book and forgotten at the end. Not the authors best work.

Thank you to Atria Books, Jennifer Weiner, and Netgalley for an advance copy of The Summer Place in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoy Jennifer Weiners books and this one was another winner for me. While it was very character driven (in the beginning I was a bit confused), it was an excellent story. Weiner managed to take me on an adventure through all the different characters and how they all were parts in the same web. The last 25% of this book FLEW by and was well worth the slower start. This is available now and would make the perfect gift for any fiction lover.

To be blunt this book was simply not a good fit for me.🤦🏻♀️
Ruby is about to marry her quarantine boyfriend. Thrown together through the Covid outbreak they came out the other side wanting a life together. But they’re quite young (early 20’s.) Are they really ready for this next stage in life?
Are their families happy for them? Well? On the surface…perhaps. But deep down each family member is dreading the day for their own reasons.
This family gave new meaning to the word dysfunctional!

My take away from Ms. Weiner’s latest is COMMUNICATION is the key to all relationship. A lot of tension would have been rectified if people would have talked. I loved how she handled COVID and felt she captured the feelings of the lockdowns and being with family all the time. My favorite character was probably Sam because he was the most selfless of all of them.
