Stolen Angels was another amazing addition to the Detective Ellie Reeves series following Ellie's search for a missing child.
When a child disappears during the one block walk between her house and the bus stop, Detective Ellie Reeves is in a race against the clock to find the girl before it's too late. While Ellie is working the case, a tip comes in about other girls that went missing on the same day in the past. As Ellie digs into the previous cases, it becomes clear someone has been targeting the girls of Crooked Creek. With pressure mounting from the public, Ellie needs to find Ava and the other missing children before someone else's daughter is taken.
The mystery in Stolen Angels immediately pulled me in and had me wondering what happened to Ava. Lara, Ava's mother, is devastated by Ava going missing and it was heartbreaking reading from her perspective. It was clear she had nothing to do with her disappearance and there were a few people offered up pretty early on as possible suspects but none that I really bought as the kidnapper. Once the tip comes in about the other girls going missing previously, the pacing of the story really picked up. Now Ellie knows this isn't an isolated incident which makes finding Ava quickly even more imperative as the persons responsible clearly have experience. The author once again does a great job keeping you guessing and I really liked how the reveal of everything played out. Overall the mystery in this was solid and I was happy with how everything turned out.
Ellie is an excellent main character and her skills as an investigator have come a long way since the first book in the series. I've enjoyed watching her become a better detective and seeing her investigative style evolve. Ellie is once again under a lot of pressure from the townspeople and I do consider it unfair how much she's blamed for what happens in the town. She can't stop everything and she goes to great lengths to keep people safe. It would be nice to finally see her appreciated for her efforts instead of blamed whenever something happens. Her relationship with Derrick continues to evolve and I'm continuing to enjoy their dynamic.
Overall Stolen Angels was a great read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Hidden Bones, soon.
A child runs to catch the school bus
Whoosh...
Mum rushes, then waves goodbye
Sigh....
Goes to school with her bakes
Cakes...
But her daughter never got there
She's where?
Detective Ellie Reeves is called in
The searches begin.
Then a call helps them discover
There are others.
Where are the missing girls now?
They need finding somehow,
The cases escalate -
Fate?
What an intriguing, moving crime thriller
A chiller.
The community is great,
But wait . . .
On Ellie pressure grows, tensions are high
As skills she'll ply.
What's the connection between the girls?
The plot unfurls.
Such a fascinating, enthralling read but beware
Parent's nightmare!
So moving when the motivation you learn
All yearn.....
No excuses, though, what an frightening case
Tragic space.
Superb read, highly recommend it to
You!
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.
I was so lucky to have gotten an arc of this from netgalley. This was written beautifully and it hits close to home. I remember hearing stories similar on the news. It was heartbreaking and intense and will have you gripping your seat for most of the book. Great all around
Stolen Angels is the fifth title in the Detective Ellie Reeves series, and while I jumped into the series at this point I didn’t feel lost at all. I definitely would suggest starting this series from the beginning if at all possible, but for me, I was able to step into this world with no trouble in following the current story without background information on the previous cases.
As with any Mystery/Thriller that I review I’m not going to go into details about the plot – that is best discovered by each reader firsthand. Everything you’d want to know before deciding to pick up this title can be found in the Cover Description… and if that doesn’t send a chill down your spine with a desire to know more, then I don’t know what would.
Stolen Angels is a well-written story with a tight plot, a building sense of urgency, with believable characters in unusual situations. It’s very easy to feel the emotions coming from Lara, the growing frustrations from Ellie, the anger of the mob mentality (those who fear for their own children and don’t see any progress in solving the case), and the growing feeling of danger in each chapter. This one had me flipping pages and staying up far too late to finish it in one sitting. I enjoyed the story and would definitely come back for more from this author.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Reading Between the Wines book review #7/115 for 2023:

Book 🎧: Stolen Angels (Detective Ellie Reeves Book 5)
Author: Rita Herron
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers

Sipping thoughts: I really enjoyed this book in the series with Detective Ellie Reeves. The motive behind the kidnapped girls was so sad but such a good one. What I enjoy about Herron’s writing of this series is that there is always a different plot that always keeps me pulled in. This one was my second favorite after the first one which was a very high bar. On to the next one!
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @StolenAngels.

I’m totally blown away by this tragic crime thriller story.
The amount of series I have read and continue to read are growing and this series is one of them.
I enjoyed the theme in this book despite it being hard to read. Aswell as it being heartbreaking, it was written with such sensitivity that it made me really root for the detectives to find the culprits. You can’t help but want to know what’s going to happen.
With a secondary storyline, they both really pulled the story together. I love a novel which has that moment when a light bulb lights up as it becomes apparent what the ‘reason’ is and the penny dropped’. A total surprise and fabulously written! It’s not often a thriller makes me emotional and can probably count on one hand the ones that have. This book definitely got me.
The best of the series so far! I’ll be going on to the next in the series straight away.
This is the 5th book in the series. It can easily be read as a standalone. This book had alot of suspense and twists. It was fast paced , great characters, and a storyline that will have you turning the pages.
Five stars!Hooked from start to the end, I was unable to put the book down! Highly recommended series.
This is book 5 in the series and although you can read it as a standalone I would recommend reading in order if you want a more in depth backstory of the characters.
This book had me hooked from the beginning and the short punchy chapters make it a fast paced read. I had no idea who had taken the girls or why but I really enjoyed following along with the investigation. I really feel for Ellie because the town always turns against her or blames her for any deaths even though she puts her life on the line many times to save as many people as possible. There are so many great characters that Herron manages to bring to life and she makes you feel like you are in the mountains with Ellie every step of the way. I look forward to more.

I am a huge fan of Rita Herron and I love this particular series. These books have me on the edge of my seat and I love the fact that most of the time, I can't guess the twist at the end. I power through these books when they are released and then count down the days until the next one comes out. Great read!
An absolutely riveting thriller! Stolen Angels is a book full of unbelievable twists and turns. It does have its share of heart break and sorrow, but it still manages to keep the reader hooked. Fabulous read for lovers of this genre.
An absolutely stunning add to the Ellie Reeves series. Definitely a trigger warning if you are sensitive to young children being kidnapped, etc. I won’t go too into detail because there are far too many spoilers that weave the intricate plot. Herron is one of my favorite authors, has that spark of romance and suspense that keeps me wanting more and more
Rita Herron's Stolen Angels is the fifth book in her Detective Ellie Reeves series. I haven't read the previous books in the series but still I could follow most of the repeating characters' back stories and where they are now personally. This book can be classified completely as a crime thriller.
The story starts with a missing girl. She is presumed dead with her mother getting accused for criminal negligence. Going forward another year, to the day the original girl had disappeared, another little girl Ava disappears. Detective Ellie Reeves heads the investigation into the missing girl along with her team. She and her team of colleagues leave no stones unturned to find out what happened to her.
Surprisingly, further investigation into the case leads to information about other missing girls, one of whom went missing on the same day. This spurs the investigation into an unexpected direction. Who is the person that is kidnapping these girls? Are the girls alive or dead? What is the reason for these kidnappings? These questions are answered by the end of the book.
The story takes off in a brisk pace and never lets up. As I followed the investigation along with Detective Reeves, I was so much caught up into the story that I just couldn't stop reading the book. The story is like a insight into the steps and stages of a thorough investigation. It felt like I was watching a fast-paced Investigative thriller series and one, that I completely was hooked into.
However, it's not only the mystery element of the story which was engaging. The author has done a great job of bringing the reader into the hearts of the parents of the missing children; heart went out to them. She has also drawn a vivid picture of each and every character in the book; every one of them are real and human. What's impressive is she manages to do this in just a few sentences she dedicates for each character.
She has become one of my most favourite suspense writers and I definitely am going to check out her other books. I just can't wait for the next book in the series. If you are into pure, straight Investigative thriller stories, this book is the one for you. Do check it out definitely; I can't recommend it more.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC they provided in exchange for my honest review; all opinions expressed in this review are my own.
My love for Ellie Reeves is far too much I fell in love with this series from book one. If you haven't read books one to four then read before you hit book five.
Ellie is on the case when a missing child is called in little Ava has gone missing after her mother thinks she saw her get on the school bus. But she didn't make it to the bus so Ellie finds herself at a loss where is Ava? Why did they take her?
I really enjoyed this installment of the series, I am so hooked with Ellie and her storyline I couldn't wait to start reading and I wasn't left unhappy! I found the fast pace of the story and short chapters had me completely suckered in. I honestly think this was one of the best books so far. Ellie gets a text saying there are mote missing girls out there, like what did that mean I honestly had no idea!!!! It was intense!!
The great thing about short chapters is it made it a very quick read. Rita Herron writes so well and keeps the reader engaged. I wanted to know who had the girl and why? I was completely lost and it wasn't until nearer the end of the book I had worked it out.
Reading the book from Ellie's POV makes it even better we do ofcourse hear from others but it's mainly Ellie. Her character is always so focused on the cases she takes that I felt on edge for her at times.
Would I recommend this book?
Yes I would but if you have any issues with child abuse it might be worth skipping this one. But otherwise its a great read an amazing case and jammed packed! 5 stars
Thank you to netgalley, Rita Herron and bookouture for the digital advanced copy of stolen angels in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
This was the fifth outing for Detecive Ellie Reeves and her cast of characters. When Little Ava goes missing from home her mum Lara is devastated. Then the case is linked with other missing girls. Ellie is joined by her usual team including Special agent Fox.
The story is told in multiple POV.
A great read hopefully book six won’t be long.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. I really enjoyed this book. It was really well written and it just had you trying to solve the mystery. I look forward to seeing what’s next from this author.
It was just another day for Lara & her daughter Ava except everything will change for them both. Lara thought that Ava had caught the school bus but when she gets to the school with the cupcakes she finds out that Ava isn't there. The police are called and Det Ellie Reeves & Special Agent Derrick Fox are on the case. How did Ava just disappear? Did her father take her away with him on holiday? As things aren't going well between Lara & Jasper but would have done this to hurt her?
Kaylee is so happy to get someone else to play with and she knows that Ava is sad now but things will get better as she was also sad in the beginning. She just hopes that she doesn't get sick like Becky as she doesn't like being alone.
While the police are following up on leads they come to realise that Ava could have been stolen to sell on the black market and they have no choice but to go undercover to find out the truth. But they don't find Ava so who has her? Will they be able to find her before it is too late?
Little do they realise that there are more than one little girl missing and that their families have never given up looking for their missing girls. Will they be able to provide the police with info that could help find the girls?
A great reading full of twists & turns. Nothing is as it seems. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Stolen Angels by Rita Herron is the fifth in the brilliant Detective Ellie Reeves series which is set in the isolated town of Crooked Creek, Georgia. and if you have not read any of her books......Where have you been they have been brilliant from the very first one which was called Wildflower Graves. till the latest one. In this book a young girl called Ava is missing. She was excited to go to school and ran out of the door to catch the school bus. However, Ava was out of her mother’s sight for a few minutes, that is all it took for someone to take her.
Ava is missing and no one saw a thing! Once again Crooked creek is unsettled again with fear that their children may be next! parents are all worried for their children and are keeping their children close.
Detective Ellie Reeves and FBI Agent, Derrick are on the case if finding Ava......
But, is time running out for her?
Will they find her in Time?
Will another child go missing?
OMG!!! I was hooked from the beginning till the end and this book was Superb! I loved it!
I highly recommend all of Rita's books they will not disappoint!
5 star read.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the free ARC they provided me with; this is my honest and unbiased review of it
Rita Herron can do no wrong. Another series that I would highly recommend.
Thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley.
5/5
Not joke this story will pull at readers heart strings no matter who your are cheering for. Book 5 in the Ellie Reeves series have been though a crazy amount of death and murder in a short amount of time. Which makes the next story just a little hard to take that Ellie is able to bounce back from book 4 and the emotional roller coaster ride that hit every read hard.
Now Ellie has to find Ava before she disappears forever. Ellie blames herself for everything that has happened in the small town and this time she refuses to give up until she is able to bring Ava home for Christmas.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Rita Herron Stolen Angles.
Can Ellie get a break or at least a vacation before the next murder in her town?
