I enjoyed the narration of this title, as well as the vibrant main character, but struggled to get into the story. Would still recommend for readers who enjoy historical romance and love Bridgerton!
I loved the premise of this book - but sadly I could not get into it. I just couldn't get past the personalities. It was a slow start that did not hold my attention.
There's definitely a Mean Girls but in the Regency era feel but then some nods to more modern takes on relationships and lingo. Overall, it's a quick, mostly light, read with well developed characters and a rom-com ending.
This was my first book by Lex Croucher and I thought it was so good. History meets Mean Girls. At times there were slow parts but it was very entertaining though, and better than I had anticipated. I thought the narrator did a great job.
Bridgerton meets Gossip Girl? I'm sold! I read REPUTATION by Lex Croucher in two formats (audio and ebook), and I loved both equally! The narrator perfectly captured each character's unique voice in the audiobook version, and ebook was just as charming. A lovely feminist twist in the historical romance genre!
This Regency romance story was a good historical fiction. The writing made me go back to Jane Austin’s writing with a twist of gossip girls. Wonderful women characters and feminist qualities.
Reputation is a fun, modern take on Regency by Lex Croucher. This one as I mentioned was fun, yes it has some historical inaccuracies but it didn’t take away from the story whatsoever. The narrator was spot on and the banter was witty and such an enjoyable listen. The humor in this one was on point. This is not something I’d typically pick up but I absolutely enjoyed it and highly recommend this series.
Many thanks to St Martin Press, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for sharing this digital reviewer copy and listening copy for me in exchange for my honest review.
I love the genre for historical romance. This was slightly darker than a romantic comedy that I had assumed. Good storyline that was slightly different.
Unfortunately, I DNF'd this book around 40%. I found none of the characters to be likeable and I couldn't get into the storyline.
I loved this book! it was absolutely phenomenal and it gave me a lot of Bridgeton Vibes
. I would definitely recommend this to a friend!!
I really tread lightly when it comes to Austen retellings but I wanted to give this a chance. sadly I did not fancy this. i am sure many will, especially lovers of sweet romance with an attitude.
Excellent concept, style, and writing, but the tone and plot were much more serious than the fun silly romp I expected, with a collection of insufferable characters to boot.
Ultimately, I really liked it, but not the LOVE I wanted.
Rating: 3.5 stars
Mean Girls, but make it Regency. I love Mean Girls, and I love Regency period romances, so I was really hoping to enjoy this mash-up of the two. This would have been better if it knew its place a bit more - it reads very YA in tone and style, but some of the themes feel really heavy for the YA age range. Maybe should be billed as upper-YA or New Adult, or altered some of the darker content that really wasn't necessary to keep the overall spirit of the book.
This is somehow if mean girls, Bridgeton and an Austen-esque book had a baby and I am all for it. This was a fun and fresh take on a story that could have been dry and lagging. Overall I had a blast listening to this and I am totally going to try to push this on my mom to read this story to swap out for her period books she loves so much.
I was looking forward to this audiobook as a light and fun read. Unfortunately, the narration is insipid and didn't add to my enjoyment of the book.
Anyone who’s spent time in a college English department is familiar with the Regency romances of Jane Austen. English majors (especially the young women) spend their free time engrossed in their favorites, falling in love with their characters. For the audio edition of author Lex Croucher’s Reputation, the setting is the same—but the characters and their adventures are much, much different...

“Reputation” by Lex Croucher was a book I was really looking forward to, and it didn’t disappoint. Sharp and fun, this book was an absolute romp. Definitely recommend!
Even though this book wasn’t for me due to the time period. The narrator did a great job of performing the voice as what has become associated with that prompt and circumstance tone found in the royals of that time. For me, it didn’t work and maybe if I read it I would have enjoyed it more.
I requested this because of the comparison to the Bridgerton Series with a mix of Gossip Girl, but I don't think that was the right way to market it at all. I remember reading a bad review of Pride and Prejudice where it says it's just a bunch of people going to parties and standing around talking. This felt much the same. There was a lot of attending parties and a lot of talking, but nothing really important was being said. And then there were some gratuitous lesbian moments and sexual assault??? That came completely out of the blue and I just couldn't read anymore. Up to that point, I was enjoying the narration, but the narrative prevented me from continuing with the story.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* LMFAO this book was hilarious! loved reading it! would read again and would recommend.
