Bridget has spent the last four years rebuilding her life after her relationship with the man she loved while she was in college came to an end. She has returned to her hometown and is partners with her brother in the family air charter business and is determined to keep her relationships with men casual. The last thing she needs is for the man who broke her heart to come to town looking for a second chance.
When Archer ended his relationship with Bridget it was out of necessity rather than choice. He has spent their time apart putting everything in place to pursue the only woman he has ever loved so when events force her to accept his help he is determined to show her by word and deed that she can trust him with her heart.
Sweet and sexy Archer and Bridget have never stopped loving each other and it was heartwarming to see them find their way back to each other.
Playing Dirty In Alaska was my first experience reading this author's work and I found it really enjoyable! This is a second chance romance between Bridget and Archer and it had all the elements that I look for in contemporary rom-coms. Entertaining banter, sweet and sexy times and some emotional, moving moments too. I loved the description of Captivity, Alaska that this author shared with us--excellent visualization. Of course I have to mention how much I loved the secondary romance in this story-- the one between Key & Wally -- absolutely adorable! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. There’s a ghost of her brother that talks to her in dreams? There was info dumping in the beginning. The pining hero was cute, the banter, and the second chance aspect. That’s all I liked.
I loved the story between Archer and Bridget. Bridget tries to do whatever she can to stop Archer's advances. Including breaking her butt... yes you read that right. That is what starts all of the chemistry to reignite between the two. Bridget has turned herself off from the potential of a serious relationship because of what Archer did when they were younger, he just disappeared.
Archer's goal, was to fulfill his father's requirements and then go back and get the woman he loves back, from the second he left. Bridget didn't know that and spent the last four years miserable and self reliant. Archer will do whatever he can in order to win her back, including climb a totem pole in front of the town.
I love this series, the characters of the town are like a big family everyone is there for one another. They even work together to help Archer win Bridget back. When Bridget hurts her butt, he is there to help take care of her and buys her special things to help her heal. When things are at the worst it could be, she admits her feelings and they find their HEA. Archer and Bridget's story is cute!
Bridget Shanahan never got over her college boyfriend breaking her heart. So she has done everything she can to avoid getting in any sort of a relationship, or risking her heart, ever again. That is, until the one and only, Archer Ellison shows up in her hometown and turns her world completely upside down...
Archer regrets every moment that he had to spend away from Bridget, but now that his circumstances have changed, his first order of business is to win back the woman that he has been completely miserable living without...

Playing Dirty In Alaska was a sassy and sweet, second chance romance set in the charming small town of Captivity, Alaska. Bridget once thought that she and Archer shared an everlasting love, that is until he blindsided her the moment he graduated from college. Sure, he may have his reasons for leaving, but Bridget will never get over just how bad his betrayal shattered her young heart...
Bridget has decided that she has a lot of growing up to do after the unexpected, and unimaginable death of her twin brother. From helping to run the family business, to taking more responsibility in her own life, the last thing she needs is her ex showing up in town. Well, that and a broken tailbone...
Archer has been a slave to his father's expectations for his entire life, but now that he has broken free from his iron grip, Archer is ready to do everything he can to win back his favorite, headstrong girl...
This was a cute, second chance romance with plenty of sexy moments, and of course a ton of entertaining enemies to lovers-esque banter! Both Bridget and Archer need to prove themselves in this story, to each other, and to overcome their own personal issues. I loved the town of Captivity, Alaska, where the residents took care of their own and where the drama seems to always be out in full force.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Clearly, it was just me with this one. But there are just too many characters for me to keep straight. I get it, small town Alaska and close knit families and friends...but when I find myself lost in parts of the story that should be emotional because I'm not entirely sure who the character is and why I care, that's an issue.
Add in the, possibly literal, ghost of her dead brother (I think, there are SO many characters) and I just can't continue.
Archer wants a second chance with Bridget to prove to her that she’s his everything and nothing is standing in their way now. Archer met Bridget where she was and not who she used to be. He was supportive when she needed him to be and everything else she needed and he never strayed from his desire to show her how much he loved and appreciated her. Bridget did everything in her power to show Archer she moved on but she really hadn’t; she was stuck in her grief and her stubbornness prevented her from truly obtaining what she wanted.
Playing Dirty in Alaska is a second chance love story between stubborn Bridget and Archer, the guy who broke her heart years ago, set in Captivity Alaska. It’s the second book in the series and hopefully there’s a third book featuring Lilah’s story.
Thank you @entangled_publishing, @greyspromo, @samanthebeck, and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
Hot and steamy and oh so good! Bridget and Archer’s physical and verbal banter is off the charts! An excellent story & HEA - definitely add it to your “must read” list! And please, please tell me the next book in this series will be out soon!
I just finished this book and I am missing this world so much already. Archer is back to win his girl back and he's not leaving without her. He's waited four years to come back to Bridget. She's not one to forgive and forget after the heartbreak she endured and I don't blame her one bit. She is such a fierce and strong character and I loved it. She's a pilot for her family's air field and she takes on her role in this male dominated field. I loved watching their relationship develop and watching their journey back to each other. I laughed, I cried, and I swooned for these two. It's got it all and so much more.
With second chance romances, there needs to be a strong reason for their separation and I felt it with this one. Their story brought tears to my eyes and the conflict had me close to screaming. This story is just beautiful, it flowed seamlessly and I couldn't have asked for a better story for these two.
Thank you to the author, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for my ARC copy.
Playing it Dirty in Alaska by Samanthe Beck is the story of Archer and Bridget. Archer is the reason that Bridget is a no emotions fun time girl. He was the love of her life that she met in college who dumped her when he graduated with his MBA. Archer has never stopped loving Bridget and is finally in a place where he can try to win her back. It is NOT an easy thing for him to do. This book could come off as insta love, but it really doesn't. While the current love story does have an accelerated pace, they were both in love 4 years earlier, so there already was a foundation there. I really loved this book. So much that I have already acquired the first book in the series and I cannot wait to add the next one that is in line (which I am guessing is Lilah and Ford.) Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy for this honest review!
This is the second book in the Captivity series and a second chance romance between Bridget Shanahan and Archer who were together 4 years back till Archer broke her heart due to some circumstances and also his own. Now he is back to win Bridgets heart once again.
Bridget is a strong and stubborn heroine and Archer is equally stubborn and patient hero. I loved watching them both grow and come closer again. They share some amazing chemistry. The pets are too cute and I really look forward to reading about the moments with Shay.
4.5 Stars! I'm super picky about second chance romances and this one example of the kind I love.
This is not a spoiler because you learn right away that Archer never wanted to end things with Bridget. He had some tough choices he had to make but he held hope that he would get her back one day. That's what made this second chance so good to me. I love a hero who knows when he finds the one.
Bridget was a fun heroine. I liked her attitude and while she made Archer work for it, she also let him in. That means you get to see them together a lot and I love that.
This had a fun cast of side characters that just added to the story. I haven't read book one but I am definitely buying it to read. Great book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an e-arc of this book!!
Okay so I read Faking it in Alaska earlier this year and got so attached to Trace and Izzy, but I think I loved Bridget and Archer's story more! Archer was the perfect hero and his love and dedication to Bridget was honestly unmatched. I also loved how much Bridget had grown from the beginning to end of the story. The spice was FANTASTIC and I enjoyed coming back to the small Alaskan town of Captivity. I was so so thrilled to get my hands on this one and I think Beck did such a good job of showcasing Bridget's vulnerabilities. It was nice to see characters dealing with grief as well which was done nicely in the first book too. This book was so sweet and exciting and I was so excited for Bridget to fully let Archer love her and protect her. Definitely a great romance to close out 2021.
Playing D in Alaska by S. Beck is the second stand-alone in this series. The previous book is just as great as this one and I recommend to read them in order.
Pilot Bridget is a strong heroine who knows what she wants and how to get it. And what she doesn't want is giving a second chance to the man who broke her heart.
Archer III. wants to win her back, but easier said than done. He relocates his company to Alaska and now the fun begins. A well written second chance story, witty and fun with twists and turns, lol moments galore, a great read, 4,5 stars.
After a 4 year absence, Archer has returned to win back Bridget’s heart. But his leaving the first time devastated Bridget so she is not welcoming him back with open arms. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Archer knows she is it for him so despite her resistance, he is going to use all the tricks up his sleeve to prove they were meant to be together.
This is one sexy read balanced with some great comedic moments. I especially liked the pet antics and the epiphanies with Shay. Bridget is stubborn and very wary but Archer is equally stubborn and patient. I loved these characters and the push pull relationship. Looking forward to Lilah’s story next.
I'd read the other book in this series and was excited for this one. It's set in a charming little town and I loved all the descriptions of said town - it's a character of its own! The book was a little slow to start for me but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's a fun, light read.
A down and dirty hot read. We are back in Captivity Alaska for Bridget’s story. She is like the wild child who likes to live a big life and take as many risks as possible. Now she wants to live a reformed and responsible life. Archer has moved to Captivity to reclaim the love of his life he gave up four years ago. He is also looking to spread his wings and separate from his family. The story is filled with great characters and fun moments. The pets Key and Wally are adorable. The couple spends an enormous amount of time together working out all the things of the past and building a bridge to the future. It is a wonderful page turner from start to finish and totally holds the attention of the reader as the love wins the day.
A great read. Will it be a second chance romance for Archer and Bridget, or will she not be able to trust him after how he hurt her years ago?
She is stuck relying on him to help out after losing a bet and then injuring her, but she still won't let her guard down. Can he convince her that he has changed?
Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I have an affinity for Alaskan romances and enjoyed the first book in the Captivity Alaska series, Wild in Captivity, so much that I knew I wanted to read the sequel, Playing Dirty in Alaska.
We were introduced to the Shanahan family in book one, and while book one revolved around the brother, Trace Shanahan, book two revolves around his sister, Bridget Shanahan. Bridget is a tough, strong-willed bush pilot that takes no shit from anyone and avoids commitment like the plague. Four years ago she was well on her way to graduating from Stanford when the love of her life, Archer Ellison III, turned her world upside down by breaking up with her - with no warning - upon his graduation. Completely heartbroken, she quits school and returns to her hometown of Captivity, Alaska to become a bush pilot for her family's charter plane business.
Fast forward a few years later, Bridget is healing and thriving when Archer walks back into her life. Archer, determined to build his own empire outside of his father's company, decides to set up shop in Captivity and make this small town his headquarters. This close proximity to Bridget puts his second plan into play: win back Bridget by whatever means necessary.
Bridget wants to leave Archer in the past but the chemistry between them seems to have never left - their attraction is undeniable. As much as Bridget tries to avoid him, she finds it hard to resist him. Will Bridget be able to leave the past in the past and trust him with her heart again?
I really enjoyed this second chance romance. I'll admit that I had a hard time connecting but Bridget (she seemed really closed off) but Bridget's and Archer's chemistry was palpable. I loved that Archer really took the time to understand the "new" Bridget and to woo her in the sweetest way.
I'm not sure if there'll be a third installment in the series, but if there is to be one, I would love a love story that revolves around Lilah!
Rating: 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4).
Thank you so much, NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and Samanthe Beck for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I'm really enjoying this series!
This is the second book in the Captivity series and it's a second change between Bridget Shanahan and Archer who were in a relationship in the past until Archer broke her heart, even if he didn't want to. He's back now, 4 years later, to win her back, but Bridget isn't having it. She doesn't want to get her heart broken again, so the best thing she can do is to play hard to get, and oh does she do that! Bridget is one of the most stubborn characters I've ever read, and that's a compliment in her case! She's hard-headed, but is confident in that, and with Archer's persistence, the book becomes filled with banter and cute moments between the couple!
I'm really excited to see who is next in this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the earc in return for an honest review.
