This was a cute, fun and quick book to listen to! While I enjoyed the dynamics of the angsty banter and the constant to and fro between the leads, I do feel that at times, the humour was 'trying-too-hard' to stand out. Apart from that, I really don't think there's anything that is negative to say. The characters themselves were layered and nuanced even when they don't appear so at the very beginning when you meet them.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes Chick-lit, romance or just a book that's entertaining enough to keep you flipping the pages or stop you from pausing it on audio! Go for it.
This one is cute! I really enjoyed it, as I listened to it throughout the day at work. At times I had to hold back a laugh or two so my co-workers wouldn't think I was crazy.
My only complaint would be that I wasn't a fan of the person reading the audiobook. Her guy voices made them all sound like they were 80 years old!
But overall, great book!

Thank you Netgalley and Swift and Lewis Publishing for an early copy of the audiobook.

The audiobook was very well done!
As soon as Josh comes into the picture I immediately think of "cher and Josh" from clueless. They have the same kind of love hate banter that makes me laugh out loud
I was laughing out loud and then crying but then smiling at the end.
I liked this cute romcom. I have to be in certain mood for romcoms, but I really enjoyed it. I liked the audiobook as well.
Oh god, I hate it here.
So very obviously, Josh and Gemma Make a Baby</i> follows Josh and Gemma, having hte most awkward and infuriating encounters (which is a surprise) while trying to make a baby.
Look, as you already know, there isn’t much i liked about this book. So let’s just get them out of the way first. 1. The little group of basement friends who I still do not understand how have ever sympathised with Gemma 2. Wait no there is no number 2.
I hate Gemma with my entire being. Oh holy fucking hell. This woman is so stupid, it is surreal. Look, I understand some awkward moments, but this woman is a dumb little intolerable goofball that never learns her lesson. The author tries her best by giving Gemma a family full of even (somehow) stupider people who cannot mind their own business. It doesn’t work. I still hate her. She is so oblivious to everything around her, can’t speak her fucking mind UNLESS she wants to be a bully, and literally sucks in general. I mean, what can I say about a woman who’s attracted to the off-brand “livelovelaugh” guy.
As mentioned, people around this woman are even worse. No matter who it is, there is always someone commenting on her outfit, general looks, life choices, traumas, bodily functions. No wonder why Gemma is so damaged in the head.
I will not even start with the unnerving, inconsistent writing, very boring POV. Not even scenes that made me want to blow my brain out the window. It’d take too much of my precious time. Also, it is currently 03.12 am.
Anyway.
Last complaint, Josh. This man is the equivalent of every single trope loved by all reader girlies and their mother, minus a personality. Maybe—probably—also caused by the inside of Gemma’s head, all we know about him is that he draws, he is kind of cool, and has a sick, sick father.
It is really hard to believe Josh and Gemma are two characters created by the same authors. But then, i remember that Josh is only “cute love interest” and Gemma is only “goofball but cute”.
Come on, this man’s problem is NOT TALKING. You’d think in 25 long years with Gemma, he would learn she is stupid and needs everything spelled out for her. But nope, he doesn’t. And that is the whole book. If you’re a fan of miscommunication marinated in dead brain cells, you might like this book.
Oh—yeah no, there is no real plot. The entire baby business is looked over and overpowered by very weird, very mind-numbing scenes which I WILL NOT MENTION. No one got time for that.
So yeah. 1 star.
If you like your romance books with extra cheese on top of your extra cheese this is the book for you.
Gemma is a 30 year old curvy divorcee, who has fertility issues and is obsessed with inspirational quotes. She works for a self help guru whose she credits with all the quotes she lives her life by. In the beginning of the book she is described as being a hot mess. The author seemed determined to find a way to embarrass Gemma in increasingly outlandish ways.
Gemma decides that she wants to have a baby because then someone will love her. She asks her brother’s best friend who she grew up with and lost her virginity to, to be her sperm donor. He says no at first but then agrees.
Then suddenly she finds herself in a relationship with her boss, while trying to have Josh’s baby. From there there are several embarrassing instances, several deus ex machina moments, and even more side trips and tangents. Including a Darcy / Wickham-esch plotline; a miscommunication troupe and a merry band of side characters that bring their own baggage to the table.
For me this book ended up being too silly, too dependent on absurdity, and too cliché for me to enjoy it. While I appreciate a book that does not take itself seriously I still want a good story. I found that the secondhand embarrassment was too strong and it made me want to DNF. However I did stick it out and found that the ending did seem to find a good balance. Overall it was just not the right type of story for me.
The saving grace of this book was the narrator who did an excellent job.
If you are a fan of Will Ferrell movies you might like this book.
Audiobook note: The narrator was fantastic for this specific title! I really enjoyed the voice and storytelling style.
I’ve never picked up a book with quite this kind of plot before. But as my fiancee and I are preparing to have children of our own, I found myself drawn to the pregnancy aspect of Josh and Gemma Make a Baby. I also really liked the idea behind the romantic aspects of the plot!
And I’m so glad that I came across Josh and Gemma Make a Baby, because it has been one of my favourite romance reads so far this year! Going in, I wasn’t sure what to expect since I didn’t come across the books through my usual channels, but rather stumbled upon it outside of the more mainstream ways I hear about books.
But Josh and Gemma Make a Baby was great! It gave me some Bridget Jones vibes and otherwise had a vibe all its own. I really felt for Gemma from the get-go. And I also really liked Josh from the start, and definitely understood why Gemma had had a crush on him for so long.
Josh and Gemma Make a Baby made me laugh quite a bit at time, while also making me ugly cry at others. There was also more to the plot than I had originally thought and I was impressed with how it had all been woven together. I definitely recommend this one to those who enjoy pregnancy and discussions about fertility in their romance plots!
This was adorable.
I got exactly what I wanted from this. A fun, cute and *slightly* ridiculous romance book.
Gemma and Josh were such a delightful pairing to read about, plus a really good conversation around fertility just made for an enjoyable read.
One thing I disliked about Gemma was her ignorance and complete blindness to things happening around her, especially in regards to Josh.
This was such a cute, predictable read. I found myself chuckling a few times listening to it. Then, I also found myself slightly annoyed with the main character Gemma at certains parts of the book and also the quotes that she would recite over and over again. Over all, I thought this was a fun read.
TW: IVF process and miscarriage.
Thank you NetGalley and Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC. for this audiobook.
I absolutely loved this story. This Rom-Com kept me in hysterics from start to finish. I devoured this audiobook while cleaning the house on a Saturday afternoon.
As someone who struggled to have kids, this book gave a light-hearted look at IVF as an option for a single woman looking to have a baby. Insert your brother's best friend and you are in for the ride of your life.
I hope there is a sequel, I want to know more about Josh, Gemma, and how baby changes their lives.

This book is a hot mess. Poor Gemma. She is fat shamed, talked about behind her back in the nastiest ways possible, disrespected...the list can go on and on. I'm not sure why the author needed to lay it on so thick. I just felt uncomfortable reading this book.
I loved this audiobook. It was a great book to listen to as the story was really sweet. The characters felt like friends and I truly wanted the best for them. The book was ready beautifully and I will defiantly look for more books from the narrator
I enjoyed Josh and Gemma Make a Baby. It's a cute romance, but also addresses some of the realities of infertility.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.
Gemma wants to have a baby. So she makes a New Years Resolution to have a baby. And her brothers best friend is the perfect option for her sperm donor.
Im not a fan of Rom Coms but I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I normally found that audio books are harder for me to get into but the narrator with this story sucked me right in. I cant wait to read more from this author!
This book had me laughing but also cringing. It was brothers hot best friend, which is a trope I love, but in your face with some things.
Absolutely loved this audiobook but be careful when telling people what book you're reading. You're going to get some weird and questioning looks.
I loved listening to this book on the way into work. It is very well written and described. I really felt for Gemma with the infertility and the break up and I am so glad josh agreed to be her donor and how close this brought them. I definitely recommend this book
This book was so much more than I expected from its title. I kept hearing such great things about the audiobook, and I'm glad I took a chance on this new-to-me author. It had some over-the-top moments, but it also had some very heart-felt and touching moments. It includes more serious topics than the suggests (infertility, miscarriage, body image, death of a loved one), yet it's still firmly in rom com territory.
I listened to the audiobook, which is performed entirely by Erin Mallon. She adds so much emotion to the performance that I know I liked the book better because I listened it it. The book written from Gemma's perspective, so it works well with one narrator.
I received a copy of the audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
DNF, I did not enjoy this audiobook. It was not something that I enjoyed so I could not finish it. Apologies.
