This story had layers. So many layers! Not at all what I was expecting, but in the best possible way.🤌🏻

Nan is the chief narrator of this story, spinning the yarn of her own backstory and the events that led her to cross the path of one Agatha Christie. Agatha plays the role of a secondary character in the majority of this book, - much to my surprise - but I felt that it worked beautifully. We will never know the truth of Christie’s mysterious but brief disappearance, but I quite liked Nina de Gramont’s take on those events.

Thank you 🙏🏻 to the author, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio, the author and NetGalley for an ARC audio version of this book!

Being a fan of Agatha Christie is what intrigued me about this book. I was aware of her disappearance from the public eye and the scrutiny of what caused it. With that being said, I was ready for a fictionalized tale that could portray a possible series of events.

This story took an interesting twist on it as it focused on the potential underlying cause of Agatha leaving her house and family with no notice for almost two weeks. This was a heart-wrenching tale of the history of the other woman.

It definitely humanizes and brings sympathy to the “other woman,” who would go from Agatha’s husband’s mistress to his wife. It will test your loyalties with what you think should/could be justified.

I know the focus was on the reason Agatha and Archie Christie separated, but I had still hoped for a little more in relation to Agatha. However, with there being no historical record of what actually happened over those days, this speculation is as good as any. It does fall in line with thoughts that she was embarrassed by her husband’s infidelity.

It was a tale focused on Nan and how she came to be where she is; all the trouble and poor luck she had to endure to get to a place where she could have a so-called happy ending. But is it truly a happy ending?

3.5 stars. I really did enjoy this, until parts revealed themselves to me that I find to dislike in my mystery crime books. Let me first state for the record, I have never thought of myself as a mystery book lover because I am too quick to get annoyed with them, so 3.5 stars is still a good rating.

The idea of this book is from a real moment in time when the real Agatha Christie (best selling mystery thriller author) actually went missing in 1926 for 11 days, her husband was having an affair with a woman named Nancy. Agatha was upset, went missing, then when they found her she claimed she couldn’t remember anything in those 11 days or why she disappeared, then proceeded to get a divorce… that is the true History behind the idea of this book. What happened in those 11 days…. No one knows. (I wouldn’t go calling this a historical fiction book though. Mystery romance Literary Fiction maybe)

We follow Nan’s (Nancy the adulteress) side of events, and everything is 100% made up, but a completely compulsive read. We have Nan’s “what if” scenario of a backstory which gives us struggle and love and rejection and loss, life with corrupt nuns and priests, a double murder investigation, all while trying to figure out why she is stealing Agatha Christie’s husband away even though we clearly know she doesn’t love him. A very successfully way to get you rooting for the villain in a story.

This was a well written story that is chalked full of mystery. I believed the characters, you felt bad for Nan even though she is luring a married man into her arms for her own selfish reasons. I rooted for both Nan and Agatha to have their love stories, I wanted both to have their happily ever afters.

There’s is a lot going on. We are mostly in Nan’s head but occasionally jump into Agatha’s mind. The audiobook narration makes the jump seamless and it’s easy to follow. There are also a lot of jumps back and forth between Nan’s past life and present time. If you get confused easily in books this might not be the book for you, but I didn’t have any problems following along.

Let me get into my pet peeves of mystery crime books that I come across from time to time. It’s when a story conveniently leaves things out, when a story is being told along a time line but chooses not to share important events in the middle of that time line until a later time especially when the narrator knew about them when they happened, just to make the mystery more mysterious. A lot of high rated books I’ve read do this, I’m not saying it’s bad story telling, it’s just not for me and each of those books have lost a star from me for this reason. I also couldn’t get on board with the two mysteries in the end, they could have left the one completely out and still had a great novel. I just didn’t believe the two could exist together being that she risked everything for something that didn’t need to happen that could have lost what was worth her very existence to gain. Sorry that’s the best I can do with no spoilers!

I also have never read any of Agatha Christie’s books before. I wonder if I was a big fan of hers, if I would appreciate this as a historical fiction more?

If you love crime or murder mysteries (not thriller) with a shade of romance, I have no doubt you will love this book..

I liked this book a lot! It made me want to research and learn more about Agatha Christie, which to me is the sign of a great historical fiction book! I really liked the narrator’s voice too. Some of the plot twists came completely by surprise! I would definitely recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

The premise of this book is so intriguing, and it lived up to that hype. I have long heard about Agatha Christie's disappearance and found it fascinating. This fictional version of the 11 days was well thought out and really interesting.

This book had some twists and turns that I did not see coming. Others I did see coming but it didn't make them less enjoyable. These characters were well developed and easy to follow their thoughts and motives.

This story is told in the POV of Archie's mistress Nan, which at first was disappointing however, as the story progressed and we learned more about Nan you got sucked in.

The narrator did a lovely job with this book. It was easy to tell who was talking and made for a great listening experience.

This was such an interesting book! The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont is a retelling of the story of when Agatha Christie, yes - the Queen of Mystery! - went missing... I had no clue that was an event in her history. With lots of characters and many overlapping points of contact between people, places and timelines, this is a fun book to try to keep up with! Well written and excellently narrated, any lover of mysteries and Agatha Christia will love this story too!

Hi, my name is Alina and I am Hercule Poirot and Agatha Christie's biggest fan. Throughout the years I have read many articles talking about Christie's peculiar disappearance. And like many other people - I found the disappearance fascinating and quite intriguing. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed Nina de Gramont's version of the events that took place over the mysterious eleven days.

The day Agatha has disappeared was a day when her beloved husband has informed her of his wish for the divorce. Shocked and hurt, Agatha packed her adored little car and went on her mysterious adventure. But this story is not about Agatha, this story is about Nan, the second Mrs. Christie.

At first, I disliked Nan's character. Who wouldn't? A promiscuous young woman who broke the marriage and family. But it takes two to tango, isn't it? As the novel continued, I began to admire the girl. Her strong and bold character, patience, and her fierce love for her child gave me goosebumps. Her backstory was so tragic, I can't imagine the heartbreak she went thru... alone. One question still remains unanswered. Did Agatha tell Nan the truth about the little girl? Or did she want to give Nan closure? Nevertheless, I admire both women and the bond they have shared for the rest of their lives.

I read the ebook version and also listened to the audio of The Christie Affair. I really enjoyed the narrator on this one and would recommend it.
About the book: I enjoy reading a good Agatha Christie novel and had heard that she went missing for a brief period, but never looked into it. This novel, The Christie Affair, by Nina de Gramont offers an interesting "insight" into what may have happened during those eleven days, from the perspective of Agatha's husband's mistress. The story unfolds with a few twists that justify why the activities of those days remain a secret. Historical fiction with components of a good thriller mixed in. Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an ARC ebook version of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

What a beautiful historical fiction story! The cover first drew me in, and when I realized this book is a suggestion of what went on during Agatha Christie’s mysterious disappearance for 11 days in 1926, I just had to read it!

When Colonel Archie Christie tells his wife, Agatha, that he wants a divorce, she doesn’t know how to react. Furthermore, the other woman is someone Agatha actually likes. The next day, Agatha simply disappears. What follows is an amazing story of what could have happened to Agatha during that 11 day period when all of England was looking for her.

This is a tale of love and loss, with a mini-murder mystery woven in. Even more fascinating is the fact that the story is narrated by Archie’s mistress, Nan O’Dea (a fictional character based on a real person)! I don’t want to tell you more because you need to read and discover for yourself this interesting and unusual version of what could have happened.

My sincere thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my ebook. My review is my own.

Narrator: The Narrator had a wonderful voice. The accents, including Irish Accents were well done and a pleasurable listening experience.

I love reading Agatha Christie novels and books about her life. I enjoyed this new novel that reimagines the unexplained 11-day disappearance of Agatha Christie that captivated the world.

The book is told from the perspective of Archie Christie’s mistress, Miss Nan O'Dea, a fictional character but based on someone real. I applaud the author for her fresh take on a story I was already familiar with from recent books and movies.

I did have trouble with the POV in this book. It is told from Nan’s POV, but Nan is an omniscient narrator. We experience all of the action of the book from Nan’s perspective, even other character’s inner thoughts. I know this is a perfectly acceptable way to write a book, but as a reader it left me confused several times as to who was speaking. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that Nan was telling the reader what Agatha (and other characters) was thinking/feeling.

As with other books that covered this event, I had little time for Archie Christie …spoiled, self-centered, selfish man! I did however come to feel ‘some’ sympathy for the fictional mistress, Nan.

The plot was the thing that kept me reading and propelled me to the end! There are several ingenious plot twists that took me by surprise. The fact that I was surprised contributed to the overall rating I have given this book. However, there were a few plot lines that were not resolved or addressed by the end of the book.

In 1925, Agatha Christie drove her car away from her estate and disappeared for 11 days. A country-wide manhunt ensued in an effort to locate her ... to no avail. When Agatha reappeared 11 days later, she said that they had no idea where she had been for the past 11 days. Though she lived for many more years, Ms. Christie never altered her story and she died with her secret.

The Christie Affair is Nina de Gramont's attempt at a fictionalized version of where Agatha Christie was for those 11 days. I was not drawn in to this story right away and was not sure that I was going to like it, but, as I continue to listen, I found myself enjoying the story more and more.

The novel is well-written with wonderfully developed characters andLucy Scott has done a wonderful job with the narration.

Pros: The piece of history that this book is based on is fascinating—Agatha Christie’s 11-day disappearance that remains her greatest mystery. This premise is the reason I wanted to read the book.

Cons: If I weren’t reading this book for NetGalley, I would have DNFed the book after giving it an hour or so on audiobook. Although the idea to tell the book through Christie’s husband’s mistress’s point of view is an interesting approach, I did not care about her imagined backstory and found her involvement in Christie’s disappearance to be unbelievable. I think that this book is not for me, but it will be for a lot of readers, especially those who love historical fiction.

I loved the narration and the story was well-written. . There were lots of conjectures about the disappearance of Agatha Christie, one of my favorite writers, but I really enjoyed the audiobook anyway. I definitely recommend it.

Agatha Christie fans are aware of the true story that during her first marriage to "Archie Christie", Agatha vanished for eleven days. Police diligently searched for her after her automobile was found abandoned with her personal effects still inside. Sources close to her indicate she never spoke of the bizarre incident at all after returning home.

The Christie Affair" by Nina de Gramont, is the historical fiction version of events that "could" have transpired. It relives the fictional events of Agatha, Archie and his mistress "Nan O'Dea". The author tells a curvy version of Archie as a selfish narcissistic husband. He was involved with Nan for several years and did not care that Agatha suffered deep emotional pain from the affair. The book is a twisty tale of secrets, vengeance, betrayal, and death.

This is an extremely interesting audiobook. The premise is a fascinating topic especially the events being told from the mistress. That makes it very unique. The audiobook is over ten hours long, so get ready to settle in for this unique story. I absolutely love historical fiction and have had my eye on this audiobook waiting for it to come out. Even the cover of the book is fabulous!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio books for this p!easure! " The Christie Affair" audiobook will be published February 1, 2022.

It is a well known fact that Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days in 1926. What happened in those 11 days has, for the most part, remained a mystery. This novel tells a story that could have happened. Or could not have. It reads like truth, and it reads like fiction, and it reads like an Agatha Christie novel.

I have fallen down an Agatha Christie rabbit hole thanks to this book.

I really, really enjoyed this audiobook! The narrator is perfect for this particular story. The storyline was intriguing--and soothing, somehow, despite being about murder and affairs??--and although it does slog a bit in the middle of the book, I was able to lose myself in the story over and over. I appreciated how the different timelines meshed in the end of the book. I will definitely be recommending this one to my patrons who enjoy historical fiction!

Nan O’Dea is the mistress to Archie Christie’s, Agatha Christie’s husband. Yes… THAT Agatha Christie, the very successful queen of mystery. When Archie announces to Agatha that he wants a divorce Agatha disappears. While everyone on the police force is searching high and low for Agatha, Nan also slips away to a hotel. It’s in this small town where Nan runs into Finbar, her childhood sweetheart. She is immediately reminded of the trials she endured during her time in Ireland, and the love and life she was forced to leave behind.

This is a reimagined story of how/why Agatha may have disappeared in real life. Told from two perspectives (Nan and Agatha) and two timeframes (“current” time, and the time before the Great War with a young girl in love in Ireland). This is a story of childhood love, loss, and the lengths a person would go to for love even if that means murder.

I didn’t have any expectations of this book going in, but the cover really drew me in. What a beautiful cover! I tend to be a huge historical fiction fan, but this one just didn’t hit the mark for me. The premise sounded interesting and there were some twists and turns there at the end, but honestly the middle was unremarkable.

I'm not sure what to think about The Christie Affair. There were moments where I thought I would give it fives stars and others that it felt like a two star book to me.

I think the main reason I didn't fall in love with this book is that I expected more of the story to be rooted in truth. Yes, it set during the time when Agatha Christie disappeared, but our narrator is not a real person from history. The character of Agatha Christie could have been anyone. I also thought the timeline was confusing and it was difficult to keep the characters straight.

Great premise and I liked the writing and the audiobook narrator, but it just didn't live up to my expectations.

It was also a lot darker than I expected. But I thought the ending was quite brilliant!

It may be because I just have not been interested in historical fiction lately, but this book was not my cup of tea. I found it a bit boring at times, to be honest. If you are a historical fiction fan or a fan of Agatha Christie, you may enjoy this one!
