This book took a lot of courage and vulnerability to write. I am amazed by the author, and her ability to cohesively put words and a timeline down on paper to her healing journey. Healing Out Loud is exactly that, a story about her process through therapy from pain to health.
If you are going through therapy yourself, this book is very helpful. There are times when you wonder, “is this working?” This book helps the reader believe in the therapy journey, see the guideposts along the way and it offers hope. I am so glad I requested it. In order to fully digest all of the nuggets in each chapter, I had to read it slowly.

Trigger warning: it may trigger trauma related to sexual abuse.

I would recommend this book to any mature reader. I was given a copy in exchange of this review.

This book shares the author's journey to healing and how to embrace God's love when you don't love yourself. This is a combination of memoir, self-help, and a guided workbook, so it's not something that you can just read quickly and be done with. Each chapter explores certain feelings that impede us from loving ourselves, and includes reflection questions that guides the reader to exploring their feelings.

I appreciate that more and more books are being released that integrate religion and therapy/counseling. For so long it's been taboo for Christians to struggle with mental health. Some things you just can't pray away, and this book helps to face those things head on. The healing map that's used throughout the book guides the reader through the suggested steps of healing that may be helpful, and make it clear that healing can be a long and non-linear process. Overall I found this book valuable and well-written.

This is a very difficult book to read. I do believe many people will benefit from it and get a lot of good out of it.
